Biography

From Trappes to international screens.

Omar Sy was born on January 20, 1978, in Trappes, France, to a Senegalese father and a Mauritanian mother. After school, he began making comedy sketches and impressions on Radio Nova, where he met Fred Testot. Together they became Omar et Fred, a duo that turned quick character work into one of French TV's most recognizable comedy signatures.

His international breakthrough came in 2011 with Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano's The Intouchables. Sy's role as Driss mixed warmth, timing, and emotional precision, earning him the 2012 Cesar Award for Best Actor. Since then, he has worked across French drama, action, animation, Hollywood franchises, and streaming television.
