The Kirtland Temple has been sold to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints for $192.5 .

This acquisition is very timely.

It appears from some of the reports from investigative journalists that possibly all of the church General Authorities in the highest quorums and councils of the church had full knowledge of this coverup.

The intentional deceitfulness and dishonesty in hiding these funds from the general church membership is very unfortunate. In theory, leaders of the LDS church will not be able to qualify for a temple recommend and will not be able to enter the temples.

In the first episode two days ago I suggested that Chemical spills like the one we just witnessed in Palestine Ohio could be the means of moving large portions of people out of certain geographical locations and into other designated locations.

We know that the government wants to move people in small rural communities into highly populated” smart cities”.

Further, we know that the Lord also has his own purposes with regard to moving people around.

I have also suggested that the tragic event in Palestine was not an accident.

I realized at the time I wrote and published the last episode that most people would not take me seriously when I suggested that the pollution coming from Palestine Ohio could seriously affect other geographical areas including Kirtland Ohio.

I felt that it might take many months and perhaps years before such an ominous prediction could be validated and realized.

To my surprise, I saw the following post the next day by a fellow who has been doing some independent testing.

His conclusion, warning and admonition for those living East of the Mississippi is shocking to say the least.

“Up to two and a half million gallons of one of the most toxic substances known to man have been released into the air, water and soil of the Eastern Seaboard, and are presently making their way south and east. Acid rain, which in this case is hydrochloric acid mixed with concentrated, unburned vinyl chloride, has (so far) been reported in every direction:

I do not cover these sobering topics to create fear, I do it to generate faith in the fact that God is in control as evidenced by the fact that we are witnessing the fulfillment of many of His prophetic declarations right now. We should have hope in knowing that the time of our deliverance is nigh.

There are countless end times calamities taking place right now that we could focus on because there is a convergence of these events taking place right now. For instance they now realize that the messenger RNA is transferring from the vaxxed to the unvaxxed.

However, there is no need to worry about all of these things because God is in control and we are to live by faith.

Once again, my initial post was simply suggesting that these types of events are preliminary to God doing a marvelous work. There is reason to believe that His work could begin VERY SOON.

I believe this nation fell under judgment in 2020 based on the 400 year prophecy in Genesis 15. It has now been three years since that prophetic milestone, and things are clearly ramping up since then.

How long from that time will it be, before God’s servants return to collect a remnant?

Should we not be pondering these things and looking forward to the great work?

3 ½ years is an established prophetic timeframe in scripture. This time sequence could possibly apply in this situation, which would mean that something huge could happen by April or September of this year.

This is total speculation on my part.

If that is the case, it would make sense that catastrophic events would start taking place now that would begin moving large numbers of people to and from designated geographical areas.

Some of the significant historical locations in LDS church history have been designated by revelation as places of refuge when the storm hits.

Prophecy informs us that the grand work of the final restoration will incorporate geographical locations like Kirtland Ohio, Jackson County Missouri and Nauvoo Illinois.

In the last post it was observed that the Lord is going to eventually build up Kirtland, however he has a scourge prepared for Kirtland which must take place before the Servants return and the city if built up.

“I, the Lord, will build up Kirtland, but I, the Lord, have a scourge prepared for the inhabitants thereof.”

Why is the Lord going to scourge the inhabitants of Kirtland?

Is it to cleanse the holy place from unbelievers so that His great work can begin?

We have been informed in scripture that PLAGUES will converge with famine, earthquakes, great storms, the sword, and other end times events to bring to pass the decreed consumption which will bring an end to all nations:

6 And thus, with the sword and by bloodshed the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn; and with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightning also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed hath made a full end of all nations; (D&C 87)

We are currently witnessing the systematic destruction of the United States. We have been conquered from within by a secret cabal that has been identified in scripture..

Countless places in scripture warn us of how the Lord is going to scourge the nations.

A greatly misunderstood passage of scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants informs us that when the servants return, during this last generation, we shall transition from the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham that was secretly ushered in when the restored church was condemned, back to the “times of the Gentiles”

At that time, a light will shine forth which will be the fulness of the gospel brought back by God’s servants who will be accompanied in secret by the Savior.

Sadly, many of the latter day saints and their leaders who sit in darkness, will not receive the light of the gospel. They will not perceive the light because of the precepts of men. The modern church has been indoctrinated to place their trust in false teachers and false prophets.

It is at this amazing time when the dispensational transition takes place that an overflowing scourge and desolating sickness will cover the land.

It is at that time that God will gather his people and they shall stand in holy places.

Although there are false prophets and false teachers claiming to be continuing the work that has been assigned to Joseph Smith, section 29 informs us who will be the ones to oversee the work of the gathering of the elect.

As you are no doubt aware, about ten days ago a train derailed in Palestine Ohio releasing highly toxic materials into the land and air.

According to some reports, the Ohio Train Company and other entities involved are largely owned by Vanguard Group and/or Block Rock.

For some bizarre reason, the merchants responsible for this travesty are overseeing the so-called clean up and they have decided to do a “controlled burn” instead of taking more conservative measures. This decision has baffled some chemical experts.

The seriousness of this calamity is being greatly downplayed in the mainstream media.

Palestine is less than 4 hours from Kirtland Ohio.

Since that event, there have been a total of about six highly coincidental train derailments in the country with the most recent ones in Tennessee and Michigan.

Within recent months many suspicious events and catastrophes are converging all at once. Including reports of spy balloons and other strange things flying over our airspace, as well as problems with the food and water supplies and power grids.

The convergence of these things has prompted the following observation from Tucker Carlson: 

“I firmly believe there is an organized domestic terrorist network attacking our food supply, railways, power grids, and water supply” Tucker Carlson

I believe Carlson is correct. We are seeing the work of the secret combination mentioned in the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants. .

The year 2020 was a major prophetic milestone, marking the end of the 400 year prophecy given to Abraham. This prophecy mentioned in Genesis 15 will be covered in greater detail later in this series.

Our nation and the world is now under judgment and we are now living during the time when many of the specific prophecies given in the Book of Mormon and the revelations given to Joseph Smith are coming to pass.

Truly there are great pollutions upon the earth just as we are informed in Mormon 8.

As Moroni was left to finish the record of his father Mormon and hide it up unto the Lord, he spoke prophetically about the apostasy of the believing gentiles of the latter-days In Mormon 8. In that chapter he chastised the gentiles of the latter day restoration and poses the following question-

“Why have ye polluted the holy church of God? Why are ye ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ?.. why do ye build up your secret abominations, to get gain?

In this prophetic chapter Moroni prophesied about how that sacred record would be brought forth by Joseph Smith:

16 And blessed be he that shall bring this thing to light; for it shall be brought out of darkness unto light, according to the word of God; yea, it shall be brought out of the earth, and it shall shine forth out of darkness, and come unto the knowledge of the people; and it shall be done by the power of God.

Moroni warns those that “breathe out wrath and strifes against the work of the Lord” and that say “we will destroy the work of the Lord… the same is in danger to be hewn down and cast into the fire”

In that chapter Moroni admonishes them to search the prophecies of Isaiah, informing us that the righteous who had previously inhabited the land of America, were praying that the Lord God would remember the covenant which he had made with them:

Search the prophecies of Isaiah. Behold, I cannot write them. Yea, behold I say unto you, that those saints who have gone before me, who have possessed this land, shall cry, yea, even from the dust will they cry unto the Lord; and as the Lord liveth he will remember the covenant which he hath made with them. And he knoweth their prayers, that they were in behalf of their brethren.

In the next passage we are informed that those who had previously inhabited the land of America were also specifically praying for JOSEPH SMITH, the one that would bring the record forth out of the earth from darkness into the light!

And behold, their prayers were also in behalf of him that the Lord should suffer to bring these things forth.. and it shall come even as if one should speak from the dead

Joseph Smith is going to speak from the dust.

He is going to return from the dead.

It is easy to miss the casual mention of Joseph Smith and the cryptic use of words referring to his return from the dead.

Contextually it becomes apparent that the above passages are not referring to the first time that Joseph brought the plates forth back during his first commission in the 1800’s.

Study the text that follows.

While some of it had some application to the time of Joseph Smiths first commission, some of it does not.

However all of it applies to the state of the the world and the apostate Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints right now. in this generation!

It refers to the involvement of LDS leaders and members and the “secret combinations” and “secret abominations” they are currently involved in right now.

“And it shall come in a day when the blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness”

It is speaking about this generation.

The blood of the innocent of this generation is being attacked by those involved in secret combinations and abominations who are using a bio-weapon. The blood is crying out from the ground.

The year 2020 was a tipping point and it marked a time when we need to be in a state of high alert, looking for the signs of the times that have been spoken of in the Book of Mormon and the revelations given through the prophet Joseph Smith.

We live during a time when the Catholic Pope himself has taken the Jesuit Oath and when the president of the LDS Church is an honorary member of Skull and Bones.

We are living during the time when we are to be watching for the return of Joseph Smith.

He will once again bring forth the plates. He will cry from the dust.He will expose the works of darkness taking place in the world around us.

I believe the event in Palestine Ohio may well represent another prolific prophetic milestone.

Shortly after the derailment it became apparent that there were toxic materials on the train that had been released into the ground and the air.

Initially troublesome signs began to appear as fish were seen floating dead in the local waters and chickens in the area began to die..

As local residents began complaining about symptoms they were experiencing from the effects of the fumes, many of the inhabitants of the community were evacuated, although they are now being told it is safe to return. However some with the financial means to stay away are doing so.

It is evident that the national media has greatly downplayed the seriousness of this catastrophe. It might even be a planned cover-up. In fact the catastrophe may not have been a mistake. It may have been a carefully orchestrated event.

Although it is presented as a local issue by the media, it is becoming obvious to some that this spill and burn off is effecting a much larger geographical area and that the ultimate damage will not be fully understood for months and perhaps years to come.

If people across Lake Erie in southern Ontario Canada are feeling the effects of it, how can the residents of other cities including Kirtland Ohio escape the calamity?

Is it possible that the Lord is going to use events like this to remove the unbelieving inhabitants from his holy places so that his work of the final restoration and gathering can begin?

The prophetic dream of Joseph Smith comes to mind of how he would one day visit his “barn” (Kirtland Temple) that had been neglected and had a curse upon it.

He wondered how the temple might be recovered from the curse:

“I was back in Kirtland, Ohio, and thought I would take a walk out by myself, and view my old farm, which I found grown up with weeds and brambles, and altogether bearing evidence of neglect and want of culture.

I went into the barn (Kirtland Temple), which I found without floor or doors, with the weather-boarding off, and was altogether in keeping with the farm.

“While I viewed the desolation around me, and was contemplating how it might be recovered from the curse upon it,

Why did Joseph Smith have a prophetic dream about returning to Kirtland and the Kirtland Temple after leaving Kirtland and going to Nauvoo?

The answer is found in the petition to the Lord in the Dedicatory Prayer given on March 27th 1836 and the Lords response to it on April 3rd 1836:

And when thy people transgress, any of them, they may speedily repent and return unto thee, and find favor in thy sight, and be restored to the blessings which thou hast ordained to be poured out upon those who shall reverence thee in thy house.

And we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from THIS HOUSE armed with thy power, and that thy name may be upon them, and thy glory be around them, and thine angels have charge over them;

And FROM THIS PLACE they may bear exceedingly great and glorious tidings, in truth, unto the ENDS OF THE EARTH that they may know that this is thy work, and that thou hast put forth thy hand, to fulfill that which thou hast spoken by the mouths of the prophets, concerning the last days”

The next day on March 30th Joseph Smith would make the following declaration regarding the Kirtland Temple

“..For the sound shall go forth from this place into all the world”

Finally, a few days later on April 3rd 1836, in answer to the petition given in the Dedicatory Prayer, the Savior appeared to Joseph and Oliver and accepted the Kirtland Temple and foretold of it’s future prophetic role:

“Behold, I have accepted this House, and my name shall be here, and I will manifest myself to my people in mercy in this house.. the fame of this house shall spread to foreign lands; and this is the beginning of the blessing which shall be poured out, upon the heads of my people. Even so. Amen”

No Wonder Joseph Smith had a prophetic dream about returning to Kirtland. Amazing things will take place there. The endowment that took place in 1836 was only the beginning of the endowment.

The second part of the endowment still must take place in that temple and the sound shall go forth from that place as God’s servants go forth into all the world.

Yes the temple was later defiled by the saints, and a curse was placed upon it, and that is why Joseph wondered how the curse would be removed..

Great things are about to happen in Kirtland Ohio.

This particular current event in Palestine Ohio and others similar to it might represent the beginning of a major prophetic milestone pointing to the eminent return of the Gods servants back into the vineyard as depicted in the allegory in Jacob and in the many prophecies about the return of Joseph Smith.

There are many prophesies about the important future role of Kirtland Ohio, however shortly after the Joseph and most of the saints left Kirtland to go to Far West and eventually Nauvoo, some of the saints refused to leave Kirtland and some of the saints in Nauvoo wanted to return to Kirtland.

The reason for this strong attachment to Kirtland is that great future promises had been made about Kirtland and it was only natural that the saints believed that they would be fulfilled during their lifetimes..

However in section 124 the Lord informed the saints that they should not return to Kirtland until after Kirtland receives the scourge that the Lord has prepared for the inhabitants thereof.

“I, the Lord, will build up Kirtland, but I, the Lord, have a scourge prepared for the inhabitants thereof.”

The same revelation verified that the Kirtland Temple was not currently acceptable to the Lord

“..build a house to my name, for the Most High to dwell therein. For there is not a place found on earth that he may come to and restore again that which was lost unto you, or which he hath taken away, even the fulness of the priesthood.”

Clearly, once the saints got to Nauvoo, the Kirtland Temple was no longer acceptable to the Lord in its current condition.

It had been defiled.

It is true that the Lord had promised that it would be redeemed from the defilement at a future time, but in the mean time, a curse had been placed on Kirtland and the temple.

Prophecy informs us that a curse in Kirtland would lead to a scourge in Kirtland. This must take place BEFORE the servants return to the house of the Lord in Kirtland to fulfill the promises made by the Lord.

But wait.

We are getting ahead of ourselves.

Lets come back to this toxic mess in Palestine Ohio and how it could possible interconnect with prophecy after we provide some historical context for this story.

We need to start at the beginning and set the stage for this magnificent sequence of events which may well culminate in the return of the servants in the very near future.

Regardless of whether this current event in Ohio is of singular prophetic import or not, this event is a good wake up call to remind us what the Lord has told us about the prophetic end times roll of Kirtland and how the servants are going to return.

Let us cast our minds back to the promises made about this holy geographical area where much of the restoration of the gospel took place.

Some of us have studied and believed the many prophecies about the return of Joseph Smith and the other “first laborers of the last kingdom” relative to the final restoration of the Kingdom of God on earth. Those of us that understand this, should be looking forth for this amazing event so that we will not be deceived by the imposters who are currently claiming that Joseph has already returned and given them the keys.

The prophecies indicate that Joseph’s 15 year ministry leading to his death in 1844 represented the first of a two part calling from the Lord:

“It is not necessary that God should give us all things in His first commission to us, but in His second. John saw the angel deliver the Gospel in the last days. The small lights that God has given are sufficient to lead us out of Babylon; when we get out, we shall have the greater light.”

A careful study of history and prophecy reveals that it is in the second half of his commission when Joseph Smith and his fellow laborers will return and complete their assignments in taking the gospel to the world, gathering Israel, and establishing Zion. It is at that time that we will be led out of Babylon so that we can have the greater light in Zion.

In section 88 the Lord would remind Joseph and his brethren that he would be sending them forth again among the gentiles for the last time to testify and warn the people and prepare them for the hour of judgment to come:.

78 Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law of the gospel, in all things that pertain unto the kingdom of God, that are expedient for you to understand..

.. That ye may be prepared in all things when I SHALL SEND YOU AGAIN
to magnify the calling whereunto I have called you, and the mission with which I have commissioned you.

81 Behold, I sent you out to testify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to warn his neighbor.

82 Therefore, they are left without excuse, and their sins are upon their own heads.

83 He that seeketh me early shall find me, and shall not be forsaken.

84 Therefore, tarry ye, and labor diligently, that you may be perfected in your ministry TO GO FORTH AMONG THE GENTILES FOR THE LAST TIME, as many as the mouth of the Lord shall name, to bind up the law and seal up the testimony, and to prepare the saints for the hour of judgment which is to come;

85 That their souls may escape the wrath of God, the desolation of abomination which awaits the wicked, both in this world and in the world to come (D&C 88:78-85)

According to section 88, Joseph and his associates will be called AGAIN to go forth AMONG the gentiles for the LAST TIME.

The prophecies about Joseph’s return suggest that Joseph will return with the same keys and priesthood powers that were restored during Joseph Smith’s first commission. The keys were never taken away from him nor will anyone take the keys and do his work for him. He will return with Sidney and Oliver and the others and each will perform the duties that the Lord has promised..

Those of us blessed to have this prophetic narrative revealed to us should be earnestly looking for signs that accompany the time of their return, realizing that the Son of Man also returns in secret to oversee this great work. .

The Kirtland Temple plays a key role in the return of God’s servants.

Part two of this series, demonstrated and documented the fact that virtually all of the founding members of the New Organization which eventually became the RLDS church, testified that Joseph secretly taught and practiced polygamy.

This is significant because none of them followed Brigham Young and therefore none of them were under the spell of Brigham Young’s dominant and forceful personality and his intimidating leadership style.

Those who naively maintain that Joseph Smith was never involved in the spiritual polygamy usually claim or strongly imply that Brigham Young led a wide-ranging conspiracy to blame the spiritual wife practice on Joseph Smith. They believe that Brigham was able to intimidate the countless men and women in the Utah branch of the restoration to bare false witness about Joseph’s involvement in polygamy.

But that is simply not true. No amount of historical revisionism from any one faction can alter the truth.

People from all of the splinter groups knew that Joseph Smith was involved.

The men who laid the foundation for the New Organization that later became the RLDS Church were honest and honorable men who had too much integrity to perpetuate a lie about Joseph Smith.

Many of them served in the leading councils of the church and knew Joseph personally.

As fervent believers in the Book of Mormon and the Restoration of the Gospel with desires of having the knowledge of the restored gospel going to all of the world, they would have wanted Joseph Smith to be well thought of by those investigating the latter day restoration and the life of Joseph Smith. It must have brought anguish to their souls to admit the truth.

If anything, they would have been tempted to unite with those perpetuating the grand lie about Joseph’s innocence, in an effort to protect Joseph’s reputation and further the work of the restored gospel.

They could have rationalized and compromised their personal integrity feeling that the end justifies the means. But they all had too much integrity to falsify the hard facts.

It left many of them in a quandary, wondering how the Lord could allow such a travesty.

But they were too noble to fabricate history, even for the sake of protecting the reputation of their beloved prophet.

In future episodes we are going to review the prophetic profile of Joseph Smith from ancient biblical texts however, we are going to make this transition using the inspired testimony of President William Marks because he identified an ancient prophecy in the Book of Mormon that provides a general prophetic template that all of the other ancient prophecies fit snuggly into. This prophecy reveals the grand secrets behind what really took place during the dark days of Nauvoo.

In my humble opinion, after studying LDS church history very intently for 31 years, I believe that men like William Marks, Sidney Rigdon, William Law, and Lyman Wight were among the most noble and valiant men of the restoration.

Each one of them testified that the church had gone into apostasy and that Joseph Smith had been involved in secret measures related to polygamy and a false mesonic temple endowment.

Brigham Young and other leaders of the restoration have done a remarkable job at destroying the reputations of these men simply because they rejected the leadership of Brigham Young.

The Character assassination that has taken place is remarkable.

William Marks is one of the few men that actually identified an ancient prophecy in the Book of Mormon that revealed that the restored latter day church of Christ had gone into a total and complete apostasy.

The warning given by the Lord in one of the first revelations that Joseph received was verily fulfilled.

“And now if this generation do harden their hearts against my word, behold I WILL DELIVER THEM UP UNTO SATAN” (book of Commandments Chapter 5:19)

Most Latter day Saints refuse to believe that the restored church could sink into apostasy like the New Testament Church did.

Their religious world view prevents them from believing that God would turn His people over to Satan.

They find it even more astounding that God would actually use his Servant to turn them over to Satan.

Let us now parse through the two published testimonies of President William Marks in order to lay the foundation for the ancient prophecies in the Bible that we will itemize in a later episode.

Virtually everyone that knew this President William Marks loved and respected and trusted him as a man of integrity.

Apparently, the Lord thought highly of him as well, since Marks was called by revelation to be the Stake President in both Far West and Nauvoo.

William Mark’s first public testimony on the matter specifically stated that Joseph had confessed to him that he had been deceived about the doctrine of polygamy and wanted Marks to help stamp out the abomination:

“Joseph, however, became convinced before his death that he had done wrong; for about three weeks before his death, I met him one morning in the street, and he said to me, “Brother Marks, … we are a ruined people.” I asked, how so? He said: “This doctrine of polygamy, or Spiritual-wife system, that has been taught and practiced among us, will prove our destruction and overthrow.

I have been deceived,” said he, “in reference to its practice; it is wrong; it is a curse to mankind, and we shall have to leave the United States soon, unless it can be put down and its practice stopped in the church.”

That testimony is pretty revealing and shocking.

President Marks would not lie about such a thing.

However in this part of the series we will focus on the second published testimony of William Marks which leads us to an astounding prophecy contained in the allegory found in Jacob 5 in the Book of Mormon. And it provides a profound prophetic context for Joseph’s involvement in the practice.

Few leaders of the church at the time of the Nauvoo controversy were as well versed in WORD OF GOD that the Lord had brought forth through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith, as William Marks.

He was a scriptorium extraordinaire.

Years ago, a fundamentalist Mormon was able to sneak a controversial document out of the church historical library that the LDS Church had been concealing from public view.

The documents had previously “been unavailable “for public scrutiny” by order of those in high places at church headquarters.

It was the minutes of the trail of Sidney Rigdon which took place after the succession crisis in Nauvoo.

After President Rigdon and the Twelve apostles disagreed on the succession issue, the Twelve had charges of apostasy brought up against Rigdon and a church court was held to excommunicate him.

During the trail, Brigham Young and his associates of the Twelve that were present, testified against Rigdon along with others.

Although the Doctrine and Covenants requires half of the high council to defend the rights and dignity of the accused, nobody took up the defense of Rigdon except for President William Marks.

He valiantly stood up in behalf of Rigdon and began quoting passages from the Doctrine and Covenant demonstrating that when the fulness of the gospel is on the earth, the Twelve apostles are to be a traveling missionary quorum and did not have the authority to preside in a stake of Zion, nor did they have the right to assume the role of the First Presidency.

He further showed that Rigdon had been ordained to hold all of the keys that Joseph had held.

This remarkable historical event which has been suppressed by the modern church demonstrates many truths about the succession controversy and it shows what a remarkable student of the scriptures Marks was.

Not only was Marks a scholar on the revelations Joseph Smith published in the Doctrine and Covenants, he also was a Book of Mormon scholar which brings us to this present topic.

You will recall from an earlier episode of this series that William Marks had been “troubled in mind about the condition of the church” after seeing the abominations taking place in Nauvoo and finding out that Joseph had been deceived about the spiritual wife abomination.

Here is his second published testimony:

About the first of June, 1844, (situated as I was at that time, being Presiding Elder of the Stake at Nauvoo, and by appointment the presiding officer of the High Council,) I had a very good opportunity to know the affairs of the church; and my convictions at that time were, that the church in a great measure had departed from the pure principles and doctrines of Jesus Christ.

I felt much troubled in mind about the condition of the church. I prayed earnestly to my heavenly Father to show me something in regard to it
when I was wrapped in vision, and it was shown me by the Spirit that the top or branches had overcome the root, in sin and wickedness, and the only way to cleanse and purify it was to disorganize it and in due time the Lord would reorganize it again.

This vision that President Marks had was received less than a month before the martyrdom of Joseph Smith.

In the vision Marks was shown that “the top or branches had overcome the root, in sin and wickedness”

The remarkable revelation the Lord gave to President Marks highlights the prophetic allegory in Jacob 5.

Although the general narrative of the allegory is obvious, there are cryptic parts of it that can be difficult to understand unless a person is steeped in scripture and has the spirit of prophecy as was the case with President Marks.

Very few people realize that the allegory prophetically details the apostasy of the latter day restored church.

Below are a few passages from the allegory.

Notice the similarities in wording demonstrating that the Lord was clearly referencing the allegory in the vision given to President Marks:

37 But behold, the wild branches have grown and have overrun the roots thereof; and because that the wild branches have overcome the roots thereof it hath brought forth much evil fruit; and because that it hath brought forth so much evil fruit thou beholdest that it beginneth to perish; and it will soon become ripened, that it may be cast into the fire, except we should do something for it to preserve it.

48 And it came to pass that the servant said unto his master: Is it not the loftiness of thy vineyard—have not the branches thereof overcome the roots which are good? And because the branches have overcome the roots thereof, behold they grew faster than the strength of the roots, taking strength unto themselves. Behold, I say, is not this the cause that the trees of thy vineyard have become corrupted?

Unbe-frekin-lievable!

William Marks had declared-

“it was shown me by the Spirit that the top or branches had overcome the root, in sin and wickedness,

The allegory in Jacob 5 prophesies that both the leaders and the saints of the restored gospel would go into a complete apostasy!

This prophetic secret about the apostasy of the entire church is contained in the allegory and it is documented in a revelation that Joseph Smith received in December of 1834:

“Verily,  condemnation resteth upon you, who are appointed to lead my Chu[r]ch,  and to be saviors of men: and also upon the church: And there must needs be a  repentance and a refor[m]ation among you, in all things..”

That revelation was given exactly 3 ½ years after the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood at the special conference at the Morley Farm.

When Christ visited the Nephites, he prophesied that the Latter day Saints would “sin against the fulness of the gospel“:

“Those who are not the First Elders”

The allegory reveals another grand secret about the latter day apostasy of the restored church as well.

It reveals that it was not the “roots” (Joseph and the “first elders” ) that overcame the “lofty branches” (those who were not the first elders)

Rather, it was (the lofty branches) that overcame the roots)

Modern revelation informs us that some of the leaders of the church were not classified among the “first elders” and “first laborers” of the church, such as the Twelve Apostles. These leaders are referred to as the “lofty branches” in the allegory.

Notice how section 88 instructs the “first laborers of the last kingdom” to tarry while “those who are not the first laborers” are to continue laboring in the mission field until they are called home.

70 Tarry ye, tarry ye in this place, and call a solemn assembly, even of those who are the first laborers in this last kingdom.

84 Therefore, tarry ye, and labor diligently, that you may be perfected in your ministry to go forth among the Gentiles for the last time, as many as the mouth of the Lord shall name, to bind up the law and seal up the testimony, and to prepare the saints for the hour of judgment which is to come;

85 That their souls may escape the wrath of God, the desolation of abomination which awaits the wicked, both in this world and in the world to come. Verily, I say unto you, let those who are not the first elders continue in the vineyard until the mouth of the Lord shall call them, for their time is not yet come; their garments are not clean from the blood of this generation.

Clearly, section 88 was identifying people like Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, and Oliver Cowdery as the first laborers of the last kingdom. They represented the “roots” of the tree in the allegory.

The Lord was declaring that their garments had become clean from the blood of that generation.

Joseph and his brethren had become clean before the Lord in order to fulfill their mission as intercessory servants that would intervene between God and his apostate people.

Section 88 was promising Joseph and the other first laborers of the last kingdom that they would be called to go forth AGAIN at a later time, to bind up the law and prepare the saints for the hour of judgment.

The eventual return of God’s servants is also revealed in the allegory!

70 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard sent his servant; and the servant went and did as the Lord had commanded him, and brought other servants; and they were few.

71 And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.

Conversely, the Lord was referring to the Twelve Apostles as “those who were not the First Elders”
in section 88.

A primary distinction between those who were the first laborers and those who were not the first laborers is that those who were not the first laborers, were not clean for the blood of that generation.

They were to continue in the vineyard, in their unclean condition, until the mouth of the Lord should call them home.

Section 112 would declare that this quorum of apostles were not yet CONVERTED and yet their stewardship was to publish the gospel!

In that revelation the Lord informs Present Marsh that his brethren of the Twelve need to be admonished for their sins and that after their temptations and much tribulation they would eventually be CONVERTED if they do not harden their hearts.:

12 ..pray for thy brethren of the Twelve. Admonish them sharply for my name’s sake, and let them be admonished for all their sins, and be ye faithful before me unto my name.

13 And after their temptations, and much tribulation, behold, I, the Lord, will feel after them, and if they harden not their hearts, and stiffen not their necks against me, they shall be converted, and I will heal them.

In this revelation the Lord declares that the WHOLE EARTH IS COVERED IN DARKNESS and that ALL FLESH HAVE BECOME CORRUPT:

23 Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face.

24 Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord.

25 And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;

26 First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.

Clearly the apostasy of the entire church is documented once again by the fact that the “all flesh” had become corrupt before the Lord’s face and that darkness covered the minds of all people. It is remarkable that shortly after God had declared the first laborers to be clean from the blood of that generation, now all flesh had become corrupt, and the Lord was allowing those that were not the first laborers to continue in take the message of the gospel to the world even in their darkened state.

It is remarkable that the Lord continued to labor with the condemned saints.

It is remarkable that he continued to labor with the quorum of the Twelve and allow them to continue laboring in the vineyard even though they were not yet converted or clean form the sins of that generation.

A second wave of missionary work would begin within a few years after that revelation was given.

The Lord would send this unclean and unconverted quorum of missionaries across the great waters to “promulgate” the fulness of the gospel contained in the word of God that had come forth through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith.

4..let them depart to go over the great waters, and there promulgate my gospel, the fulness thereof, and bear record of my name. (Section 118)

Finally, during the Nauvoo period, the condemned church would be rejected as a church with their dead.

The Lord had shown William Marks in vision that the restored church of Christ would go into a complete apostasy and that the lofty branches would overcome the roots.

Marks was not the only one to declare the church to be in complete state of apostasy.

Lyman Wight, the very first Elder to be called to the Melchizedek priesthood also declared that the latter day saints had been rejected as a church:

“… We were to have a sufficient time to build that house, during which time our baptisms for our dead should be acceptable in the river. If we did not build within this time we were to be rejected as a church, we and our dead together.

Both the temple and baptizing went very leisurely, till the temple was somewhere in building the second story, when Bro. Joseph from the stand announced the alarming declaration that baptism for our dead was no longer acceptable in the river. As much to say the time for building the temple had passed by, and both we and our dead were rejected together..

“The church now stands rejected together with their dead. The church being rejected now stands alienated from her God in every sense of the word.”

Lyman Wight was referring to the warning the Lord had given in section 124:

31 But I command you, all ye my saints, to build a house unto me; and I grant unto you a sufficient time to build a house unto me; and during this time your baptisms shall be acceptable unto me.

32 But behold, at the end of this appointment your baptisms for your dead shall not be acceptable unto me; and if you do not these things at the end of the appointment ye shall be rejected as a church, with your dead, saith the Lord your God.

Here is what Joseph Smith declared to the saints that was being referenced in the testimony of Lyman Wight:

“There shall be no more baptisms for the dead, until the ordinance can be attended to in the font of the Lord’s House; and the church shall not hold another general conference, until they can meet in said house. For thus saith the Lord!”

The fact that the saints were not allowed to have a general conference as a church until they repent and complete the house of the Lord speaks volumes about the severity of the situation. That is just one more way of saying that the saints were in the process of being rejected as a church.

They were on probation.

But the House of the Lord being referenced in the revelation was never completed.

Lyman Wight’s synopsis of the Nauvoo apostasy agrees with the vision that the Lord gave to President Marks about the allegory in Jacob 5.

Much more is revealed in the allegory in Jacob.

The reason I find the testimony of President Marks and the prophetic implications in the allegory so remarkable is because Jacob 5 provides a wider view of the historical narrative than many of the other ancient prophecies that provide the prophetic profile of Joseph Smith and the latter-day apostasy.

Here are four main things revealed in the allegory

FIRST: The church was totally overcome. Both leaders and the members had all been overcome!

This is consistent with the revelation that Joseph had received exactly 3 ½ half years after the Melchizedek priesthood had been restored at the Morley Farm when the Lord pronounced both leaders and members to be under condemnation:

SECOND: It was actually those of the “lofty branches” that had overcome the foundational “root” or priesthood leaders, of the restored church, such as Joseph Smith.

This is consistent with Isaiah 27:4-5 as contained in the inspired version of the Bible and the Book of Mormon which reveals that the prophets and seers of the restoration had had their spiritual gifts “covered” because of the iniquity of the saints and those who were not the first laborers of the kingdom:

4 For behold, all ye that doeth iniquity, stay yourselves and wonder, for ye shall cry out, and cry; yea, ye shall be drunken but not with wine, ye shall stagger but not with strong drink.

5 For behold, the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep. For behold, ye have closed your eyes, and ye have rejected the prophets; and your rulers, and the seers hath he covered because of your iniquity.

The provocative and remarkable prophetic storyline of the latter day restoration not only reveals that the entire church backslid into apostasy, it also reveals that it was caused by the lofty branches rather than the roots.

This should cause great pause to all of those who are throwing stones at Joseph Smith.

Although he did participate in the abominable practice of spiritual polygamy, prophecy reveals that his involvement was caused by the iniquity of the “lofty branches” who were not the first laborers of the last kingdom.

His eyes and spiritual gifts had become covered as a result of the overall rejections of God’s laws by the lofty branches.

THIRD: Once the saints failed to live the law of the Gospel during the Kirtland Era and began to sink into the apostacy that culminated in the dark days of Nauvoo and the Martyrdom, the allegory informs us that an intercession was provided that prevented the Lord from casting the saints into the fire. The Lord and His servant visited the vineyard to intervene:

49 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard said unto the servant: Let us go to and hew down the trees of the vineyard and cast them into the fire, that they shall not cumber the ground of my vineyard, for I have done all. What could I have done more for my vineyard?

50 But, behold, the servant said unto the Lord of the vineyard: Spare it a little longer.

51 And the Lord said: Yea, I will spare it a little longer, for it grieveth me that I should lose the trees of my vineyard

This remarkable intervention by God’s servant in behalf of apostate latter day Israel is documented in other ancient prophecies which will be covered later.

FOURTH: The prophetic allegory reveals that the Lord of the Vineyard and His Servant return into the vineyard three separate and distinct times prior to when the Lord sends His Servant with other servants at the “LAST TIME” to nourish the vineyard.. (this is consistent with JST Luke 12:41)

At that final time the lofty top branches would no longer overcome the root. Rather, the top and the root would be EQUAL. Zion will be established!

73 “..and they did keep the root and the top thereof equal, according to the strength thereof.”

Notice how the phrase “let us go down” shows up in three historical events before the Lord’s servants go forth for the final time to labor with all of their might

At the time that the servants go forth for the final time to nourish the vineyard, the bad is cast away out of the vineyard and the root and top branches are made equal.

Zion is established and the Lord of the vineyard preserved unto himself the natural fruit:

71 ..and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ..

72 And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

73 And there began to be the natural fruit again in the vineyard; and the natural branches began to grow and thrive exceedingly; and the wild branches began to be plucked off and to be cast away; and they did keep the root and the top thereof equal, according to the strength thereof.

74 And thus they labored, with all diligence, according to the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard, even until the bad had been cast away out of the vineyard, and the Lord had preserved unto himself that the trees had become again the natural fruit; and they became like unto one body; and the fruits were equal;

The revelation that Marks received from the Lord about the branches overcoming the root is remarkable because it provides interpretive keys by which we can better understand the cryptic allegory in the book of Jacob. It tells us when the allegory addresses the restoration saints. It provides clarity as to how the apostasy and eventual redemption of God’s people takes place.

I mentioned in a previous episode that few if any of the folks who are now declaring Joseph Smith’s innocence regarding polygamy have actually done the deep research they draw from.

Most of the research these various authors draw upon is borrowed from the work done by Richard and Pamela Price, the authors of “Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy“.

Years ago when I was studying this topic and reading the work that Richard and Pamela did, I noticed something quite disturbing in their book so I contacted Pamela Price by email on September 7^th 2012.

In the email I asked Pamela why she omitted the first published testimony of President Marks wherein he rehearsed Joseph Smith’s confession about being deceived.

I further asked why she only published part of his second testimony and opted to omit the part declaring what the Lord had shown him in vision about the branches over-coming the root.

By so doing, the reader is misled into thinking that President Marks was pointing to Joseph Smith’s innocence instead of his involvement in polygamy.

Sadly, Pamela did not respond to my question. To my knowledge she refused to correct the misdirection that she provides in the book.

The allegory in the Book of Mormon provides a general prophetic template dealing with the apostasy and redemption of latter day Israel. It verifies that Joseph Smith did commit iniquity and practice a form of spiritual wife polygamy. Yet it and corresponding prophecies assure us that Joseph and others of the first laborers of the last kingdom will return to complete their assignments. As we dig deeper into the biblical profile of Joseph Smith it becomes apparent that he was more of a victim than a perpetrator. In his role as an intercessor the sins of apostate Israel were place upon his head for him to act out. The real problem was that latter day Israel had rejected the laws of God that Joseph was instrumental in bringing forth.

In the next episode we will itemize and summarize the many ancient biblical prophecies about Joseph Smith’s intercession and transgression which corresponds with the prophetic declarations in the allegory in the Book of Mormon.

Some people have suggested that we just cannot know the truth about Joseph Smith and polygamy.

I disagree.

The Lord has revealed this mystery in prophecy.

Some people have suggested that it doesn’t really matter whether or not Joseph was involved in polygamy as long as we realize that polygamy is contrary to the law of God and is not a celestial practice.

I disagree.

There is much more at stake here than simply trying to protect a person’s reputation and engaging in prophet worship. We are talking about understanding end times prophecy and how God’s final work will unfold.

Those that don’t understand the true history of the church, and acknowledge the complete apostasy of the restored church, and understand the prophecies about the end times, risk being deceived when the true servants return.

We have been commanded to be found watching and waiting for the return of our Lord. How can we do that without being deceived if we don’t have the spirit of prophecy and cannot understand prophecy?

If you are part of a fringe group that has adopted the belief that Joseph Smith was innocent of practicing a form of spiritual wife polygamy, you are participating in a cult that is void of revelation.

A new medical condition is mysteriously emerging. It is called “Sudden Adult Death Syndrome” AKA “SADS”

Who was the “Jew” from which the Book of the Lamb of God began to go forth?

24 And the angel of the Lord said unto me: Thou hast beheld that the book proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew; and when it proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew it contained the fulness of the gospel of the Lord, of whom the twelve apostles bear record; and they bear record according to the truth which is in the Lamb of God.

In that article I showed that according to the testimony of Josiah Qunicy, he heard Joseph Smith declare that Moses was the one who composed the book of Genesis:

“..Here we have the earliest account of the creation, from which Moses composed the first book of Genesis.”

With all of this in mind, there has been an interesting recent discovery that may well help to substantiate this claim for those that rely on science to confirm their beliefs

I began this series by honoring three of the many players that took part in the deconstruction and radical transformation of the RLDS Church into the Community of Christ.

It was remarkable to witness a restoration church change its name, largely discard Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and morph into a protestant church virtually overnight.

Once the leaders of that church accepted the fact that Joseph Smith secretly taught and practiced the spiritual wife doctrine, they believed he was guilty of committing adultery, and intentionally deceiving his followers. At that point, they decided to reinvented their religion and their mission statement.

It is no wonder that the Reorganized church fragmented

It is understandable that a portion of the conservative faithful who could not reject the mission of Joseph Smith and the scriptures he brought forth, chose to leave the church and hang on to the iron rod.

It is no wonder that people like Richard and Pamela Price spent the remainder of their lives disputing the historicity of Joseph Smith’s involvement in polygamy and trying to redeem the reputation of their dearly beloved prophet.

It should be acknowledged that most of the research used by the numerous people who are now popping up to defend the reputation of Joseph Smith, came from the diligent and relentless research of that amazing couple.

Commonly Believed but Not True

One of the major points I want to emphasize is that it is commonly believed that from the beginning of the RLDS movement, it was believed that Joseph Smith was innocent of teaching and practicing polygamy.

That is simply not true.

Many if not most of the original founding leaders of the New Organization which eventually became the Reorganized Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, testified that Joseph was involved in polygamy. But that fact became obscured once Joseph Smith III was recruited to be the prophet of the movement and took a hard public stand against the belief that his father was involved.

It is commonly believed by some, that the Reorganized church began on April 6^th 1860 at the inaugural address given by Joseph Smith III. However the New Organization that laid the foundation for the eventual recruitment of young Joseph, actually began about seven years earlier, in about 1853.

The Recruitment of Joseph Smith III to be Their Leader

The murder of Joseph Smith Jr left his wife Emma and her children in a very fragile and vulnerable state of confusion. The enormous humiliation and emotional suffering they went through cannot be fully comprehended by those of us who are simply historical spectators.

Add to that the huge pressure that Brigham Young and his associates in the quorum of the Twelve put on Emma to join them and to release the JST of the Bible to them.

Emma had been made the sacred keeper of the inspired version of the Bible. Her stewardship in this regard must have placed a great burden on her.

She had been entrusted with the Bible in which the inspired “translation” had been made and she refused to hand it over to Brigham Young and the Twelve.

Emma decided to stay in Nauvoo.

To survive in a man’s world, Emma married a man who seemed to be the antithesis of her childhood sweetheart. Although he was not a particularly religious man he was not without his redeeming qualities.

Emma had a hard life.

“When the Mormons left for Utah, she elected to remain behind. She moved away from Nauvoo for a while to avoid danger, but eventually returned to her former home. She was able to utilize the properties she owned to support her family, but with difficulty, particularly since she was left to cover Joseph’s many debts. She later married Major Lewis Bidamon, who had supported the Mormons during the trials, but was not a member.

He had one illegitimate child and after marrying Emma had another, which she raised, making her a most extraordinary woman. They had a reasonably good relationship despite these challenges.

When her son became an adult and headed up the Reorganized Church, as it was then known, she joined. However, she was never really an active member of that church, nor did she become active in any other church.

She admitted that she had been reluctant to give her children any formal religious life—just personal reading of the Bible and Book of Mormon—because she was afraid of a return to the many trials she had faced. She helped to care for Joseph’s mother and her mother-in-law noted that few women had endured as many trials as she had with so much grace.” (Ref)

Eventually, Emma’s youngest son, David Hyrum Smith, was struck with mental illness and institutionalized in the Northern Illinois Hospital.

In his earlier years David Hyrum Smith had became a prolific missionary for the reorganized Church and even served as a counselor to his brother Joseph Smith III, but in about 1870 he began to have a mental breakdown.

In a letter to his mother in 1769, at the age of 24 he said:

“..Mother I must tell you … I feel very sad and the tears run out of my eyes all the time and I don’t know why. … strive as I will my heart sinks like lead. … I must tell someone my troubles..”

“Smith was confined to Northern Illinois Hospital and Asylum for the Insane beginning in 1877. He was held there for most of 27 years, and died in the hospital in 1904” Wiki

Again, the tremendous pressure and contradictions that Emma and her children experienced is hard to fathom.

Joseph Smith’s namesake, Joseph Smith III struggled to find his niche in life. Early on he showed very little interest in religion and rejected invitations to join various fragments of the restoration churches.

He rebuffed the entreaties made by Utahans to join the Brighamites he also rebuffed the attempts of other factions to enlist him in their cause including the reorganization when they sent a couple of representatives to try to win him over he reduced one of the elders to tears when he said firmly-

“Gentlemen I will talk with you on politics or on any other subject but on religion I will not allow one word spoken in my house.” (Ref)

With the passage of time, he finally felt inspired to accept the invitation to be the president and prophet of the Reorganization.

When he did decide to study about the legacy of his father, he did appear to sincerely believe in the “right of lineage” doctrine that arguably enabled him to claim the right to preside.

From the perspective of the Reorganized Church, there can be little doubt that Joseph Smith Jr. believed in the right of lineage, as “Old Testament” an idea as ever there was, and numerous statements abound about this particular aspect of his belief system.

An 1835 revelation to Joseph Smith Jr. proclaimed lineal priesthood: “The order of this priesthood was confirmed to be handed down from father to son, and rightly belongs to the literal descendants of the chosen seed, to whom the promises were made.”

In 1841 he announced another revelation making a direct statement about the favored position of his own descendants: “In thee and in thy seed shall the kindred of the earth be blessed.”

In this environment it would be difficult to argue that Joseph Smith Jr. did anticipate his sons entering the church’s leadership.

Joseph Smith III did not come to accept lineal succession easily. In 1856 when representatives of the Reorganized Church approached Smith officially for the first time, they presented him with a letter urging that it was Smith’s birthright to lead the church. It stated:

‘..we have shown the right of successorship to rest in the literal descendant of the chosen seed, to whom the promise was made,…We can not forbear reminding you that the commandments, as well as the promises given to Joseph, your father, were given to him, and to his seed.

And in the name of our master, even Jesus Christ, as moved upon by the Holy Ghost we say, Arise in the strength of the Lord and realize those promises by executing those commandments.’

The Grand Denial That Joseph Smith Practiced Polygamy

In his inaugural address given on April 6^th 1860, young Joseph Smith III made the following remarks:

There is but one principle taught by the leaders of any faction of this people that I hold in utter abhorrence; that is a principle taught by Brigham Young and those believing in him.

I have been told that my father taught such doctrines.

I have never believed it and never can believe it. If such things were done, then I believe they never were done by divine authority.

I believe my father was a good man, and a good man never could have promulgated such doctrines. I believe in the doctrines of honesty and truth. The Bible contains such doctrines, and so do the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Covenants, which are auxiliaries to the Bible.

I am uncertain whether Joseph Smith III became a freemason, but the picture below suggests that he may have. Although some claim that the hand in vest pose is not strictly limited to the Masonic Fraternity.

At the time of the martyrdom, young Joseph III was obviously too young to personally know what his father’s involvement was, relative to polygamy. His beliefs were primarily instilled by his mother.

It is apparent from his remarks, that he left the window of possibility of his father’s involvement open, while stating emphatically that he did not and could not believe his father could have promulgated such doctrines. After all, said young Joseph, his father was “a good man“.

Although his statements implied uncertainty, he authoritatively declared that if his father was involved in polygamy, it was not done according to divine authority.

Little did Joseph Smith III realize that his statements and the statements of others would eventually come back to haunt future generations of the movement he felt inspired to preside over.

The uncertain declaration of young Joseph about his father’s involvement was no doubt caused by the fact that he had been informed by some, that his father was in fact involved in the practice during the Nauvoo era of the restoration movement.

Who exactly was he referring to that had informed him of his father’s involvement?

Those unfamiliar with the historicity surrounding his declarations might understandably assume that young Joseph was referring to Utah Mormons and people from other factions of the restoration that had testified to him of his father’s involvement.

However, such an assumption would not be entirely correct.

It was actually some of the early organizers and leaders of the RLDS church who knew, and served with his father in Nauvoo, that had publicly testified from personal knowledge, that Joseph Smith Jr. had been involved in polygamy.

Once again it must be emphasized that Emma Smith was not one of the founders of the Reorganized Church. Further, Joseph Smith III did not begin the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints on April 6^th 1960.

That is simply the date he accepted his calling as their spiritual leader. However the foundational organization of the movement had begun about seven years earlier.

Originally the movement was called the “New Organization“.

The two men primarily responsible for beginning the Reorganization were Jason W. Briggs and Zenos Gurley Sr. Both had been members of the Church before the death of Joseph Smith, and both men initially followed the members of the Twelve headed by Brigham Young, and then later James J. Strang.

Jason Briggs later became dissatisfied with both groups. His concern about who held the true authority led him to seek divine guidance. He said that the answer to his prayers came in November 1851, in a revelation informing him that a descendant of Joseph Smith should rightly preside over the church.

Several months later a copy of Briggs’ revelation came into the hands of Zenos Gurley Sr.

Gurley attested to having received through the Spirit a confirmation of the revelation’s divinity. The message spread to existing branches of Latter-day Saints in the Midwest. Consequently, a conference was held in the summer of 1852 to consider the Briggs’ revelation. Of the conference, historian Roger D. Launius wrote:

“It was united only in its opposition to other Mormon factions, in its acceptance of the Briggs document as divine revelation, in its belief that Mormonism as set forth in the scriptures was correct, and in its affirmation that the proper successor to the prophetic office was growing to maturity in Nauvoo and would one day step forth to accept his calling.”

As you can see, the movement actually began in about 1852 by Jason Briggs and Zenos Gurley Sr.

It was predicated on a revelation allegedly received by Briggs and it did not name Joseph Smith III as the prophet of the church. Rather, it only indicated that a successor of Joseph Smith would one day arise to lead the church.

Briggs became the first President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the New Organization in 1853, seven years before the movement recruited Joseph Smith III to be their prophet/president.

Many Testimonies of Joseph’s Involvement

One of the most remarkable testimonies of Joseph Smith’s involvement in polygamy was Jason W. Briggs, the originator of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saint.

Following the martyrdom and succession crisis, Briggs had followed James Strang but eventually had a falling out with that movement and became a huge advocate of the doctrine of lineal succession in the presidency.

For this reason, he began supporting the claims of Joseph Smith’s brother, William Smith, who initially claimed that young Joseph Smith III would be the successor to Joseph Smith Jr. when be came of age, but eventually claimed that honor to himself.

However once William Smith began to publicly espouse the doctrine and practice of polygamy, Briggs became disillusioned and parted ways with William Smith. He also persuaded many others to do likewise.

It was in the aftermath of these experiences and with a strong belief in lineal succession that Briggs received a revelation that would eventually establish a new faction of the restoration and place young Joseph Smith III in a position of power over what was originally referred to as the new organization.

On November 18 1851, on a prairie near Beloit, Briggs experienced a vision and revelation informing him that William Smith and his spokesman Joseph Wood had despised the law of the Lord and committed adultery.

“..they have wholly forsaken my law, and given themselves to all manner of uncleanness, and prostituted my law and the keys of power intrusted to them, to the lusts of the flesh, and have run greedily in the way of adultery..”

The revelation went on to heavily imply that even Jason Briggs and his associates had also been deceived into believing in the celestial wives doctrine:

“..Behold, that which ye received as my celestial law is not of me, but is the doctrine of Baalam. And I command you to denounce it and proclaim against it..”

The revelation promised that someone from the seed of Joseph Smith would be called forth in due time to preside over the church-

“in mine own due time will I call the seed of Joseph Smith, and will bring one forth, and he shall be mighty and strong and he shall preside over the High Priesthood of my Church”

This revelation became known as the “first document of the ‘New Organization’“.

The Testimony of Jason Briggs

Needless to say, Jason Briggs was the most influential person in the creation of the new church that would eventually recruit the support of Emma Smith and install her son Joseph Smith III as the first “prophet” of the New Organization.

But here is the rub.

Jason Briggs maintained throughout his life that it was Joseph Smith Jr. that had originated the practice of polygamy in Mormonism and that God would punish Smith for his “transgressions.”

Briggs said that the church needed to simply deal with the issue and move on. ( Launius 1988, p. 277)

Remarkably, Jason Briggs, the founder of the New Organization which later recruited Joseph Smith III to be their Prophet, was a firm believer that Joseph Smith is the one that introduced the spiritual Wife Doctrine in Nauvoo.

But Jason Briggs was not the only early founding member of the reorganization that taught this.

The Testimony of Isaac Sheen

One of the most notable testimonies of Joseph Smith Jr’s involvement, was given in 1852 by Isaac Sheen another early member of the reorganization.

His statement was reprinted in the first number of the True Latter Day Saints Herald in January 1860, from the October 9, 1852, issue of the Saturday Evening Post:

“..the Book of Mormon condemns, ancient as well as modern polygamy. The Salt Lake apostles also excuse themselves by saying that Joseph Smith taught the spiritual wife doc-trine, but this excuse is as weak as their excuse concerning the ancient Kings and Patriarchs.

Joseph Smith repented of his connection with this doctrine, and said that it was of the devil. He caused the revelations on that subject to be burned, and when he voluntarily came to Nau-voo and resigned himself into the hands of his enemies, he said that he was going to Carthage to die.

At that time he also said, that if it had not been for that accursed spiritual wife doc-trine, he would not have come to that. By his conduct at that time he proved the sincerity of his repentance, and of his profession as a pro-phet. If Abraham and Jacob, by repentance, can obtain salvation and exaltation, so can Joseph Smith. Respectfully, ISAAC SHEEN

Clearly Sheen testified that Joseph Smith Jr had sinned but claimed that he repented.

Isaac Sheen had lived in Nauvoo during the time that various leaders of the church were getting involved in the practice.

Jason Briggs and Isaac Sheen were not alone in their conviction that Joseph Smith had been deceived about the practice of polygamy. An even more prominent player in the RLDS church who echoed the same claims was William Marks, who had been called by revelation and served faithfully as the President of the Stake in both Far West and Nauvoo.

Marks was one of the most noble leaders of the Latter day Saint Restoration Movement. It appears to be universally agreed upon by all LDS groups that President Marks was a man of uncompromising integrity. A man that would never lie to promote an agenda.

The Testimony of William Marks

The first published statement of President Marks regarding Joseph Smith’s involvement in polygamy was made in 1853, shortly after Isaac Sheen had published his testimony:

“When the doctrine of polygamy was introduced into the church as a principle of exaltation, I took a decided stand against it; which stand rendered me quite unpopular with many of the leading ones of the church..

Joseph, however, became convinced before his death that he had done wrong; for about three weeks before his death, I met him one morning in the street, and he said to me, “Brother Marks, … we are a ruined people.” I asked, how so? He said: “This doctrine of polygamy, or Spiritual-wife system, that has been taught and practiced among us, will prove our destruction and overthrow.

I have been deceived,” said he, “in reference to its practice; it is wrong; it is a curse to mankind, and we shall have to leave the United States soon, unless it can be put down and its practice stopped in the church.

Now,’ said he,’ Brother Marks, you have not received this doctrine, and how glad I am. I want you to go into the high council and I will have charges preferred against all who practice this doctrine, and I want you to try them by the laws of the church, and cut them off, if they will not repent and cease the practice of this doctrine.”

Interestingly, Marks published a second testimony about the evils of polygamy in Nauvoo, identifying it as one of the signs that the restored church had “departed from the pure principles of Christ“.

This second known testimony by President Marks was written in a letter to Martin Sheen and published in 1859, one year before he helped to recruit Joseph Smith III as the President of the New Organization.

Brother Sheen:- I feel desirous to communicate through your periodical a few suggestions made manifest to me by the Spirit of God, in relation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

About the first of June, 1844, (situated as I was at that time, being Presiding Elder of the Stake at Nauvoo, and by appointment the presiding officer of the High Council,) I had a very good opportunity to know the affairs of the church; and my convictions at that time were, that the church in a great measure had departed from the pure principles and doctrines of Jesus Christ.

I felt much troubled in mind about the condition of the church. I prayed earnestly to my heavenly Father to show me something in regard to it, when I was wrapped in vision, and it was shown me by the Spirit that the top or branches had overcome the root, in sin and wickedness, and the only way to cleanse and purify it was to disorganize it and in due time the Lord would reorganize it again. There were many other things suggested to my mind, but the lapse of time has erased them from my memory.

A few days after this occurrence I met with Brother Joseph. He said that he wanted to converse with me on the affairs of the church, and we retired by ourselves. I will give his words verbatim, for they are indelibly stamped upon my mind.

He said he had desired for a long time to have a talk with me on the subject of polygamy. He said it eventually would prove the overthrow of the church, and we should soon be obliged to leave the United States, unless it could be speedily put down.

He was satisfied that it was a cursed doctrine, and that there must be every exertion made to put it down. He said that he would go before the Congregation and proclaim against it, and I must go into the High Council, and he would prefer charges against those in transgression, and I must sever them from the church, unless they made ample satisfaction.

There was much more said, but this was the substance. The mob commenced to gather about Carthage in a few days after, therefore there was nothing done concerning it.

After the Prophet’s death, I made mention of this conversation to several, hoping and believing that it would have a good effect; but to my great disappointment, it was soon rumored about that Brother Marks was about to apostatize, and that all that he said about the conversation with the Prophet was a tissue of lies.

From that time I was satisfied that the church would be disorganized, and the death of the Prophet and Patriarch tended to confirm me in that opinion. From that time I was looking for a reorganization of the church and kingdom of God. I feel thankful that I have lived to again behold the day, when the basis of the church is the revelations of Jesus Christ. which is the only sure foundation

‘(RLDS History of the Church 2:733) ”

Although President Marks characterized the church as being “disorganized“, the Lord used a more poignant descriptive in section 124 when he said that the church would be “rejected as a church with their dead” if they failed to complete the temple within a sufficient period of time.

When viewed through the context of his earlier testimony which President Marks never denied, it is apparent from the above testimony that Joseph Smith himself had been involved in the evil practice of spiritual wifery and had been deceived.

According to President Marks, Joseph Smith Jr. desired to repent and try to correct the situation he had helped to create.

Marks observation that both “the top or branches had overcome the root, in sin and wickedness” categorically condemns the entire leadership of the church. Joseph Smith was the priesthood “root” and revelator of the restoration.

The statement that the “top of the branches had overcome the root” is an obvious reference to the prophetic allegory in Jacob 5 which we will address in greater detail in part 3 of this series.

Instead of saying that the Lord had convinced him by revelation that the practice was evil, Joseph stated that he was now “satisfied that it was a cursed doctrine”.

Satisfied indeed, from personal experience.

But why was Joseph admonishing President Marks to “prefer charges against those in transgression?

Is that the established order of the church when preferring charges before the high council?

The obvious person to name names and prefer charges would have been Joseph Smith, he knew who all of the transgressors were. President Marks had rejected the doctrine and was not invited into the secret meetings.

It would have been Joseph’s responsibility to bring charges before William Marks and the High Council rather than asking Marks to be the one to prefer the charges.

I believe the reason Joseph did not want to press charges is because had been in league with those who were in transgression!

Indeed, according to the testimony of some who had previously been brought before the high council for the practice of polygamy, it was Joseph that introduced them to the principle.

Joseph would lack credibility as their accuser, and it would make his own involvement public which he wanted to avoid at all costs!

Those two testimonies from President William Marks are powerful. But he also claimed to have seen Hyrum Smith read the polygamy revelation to the High Council in 1843.

Mark’s testimony that Hyrum Smith read the polygamy revelation before the high council under the direction of Joseph Smith Jr., was corroborated by multiple testimonies of others who had served on the high council and had been present on that occasion.

The Testimony of Thomas Grover

Another member of the Nauvoo high council that testified that the revelation on polygamy was read to the high council by Hyrum Smith, in behalf of Joseph Smith Jr., was Thomas Grover.

He was another member of the reorganization that testified of Joseph’s involvement in polygamy.

Thomas Grover came from six generations from Puritan emigrants and the grandson and great-grandson of Revolutionary War veterans. Thomas Grover was an instrumental figure in the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Section 100 of the Doctrine and Covenants was received about forty miles from where Thomas Grover was living. In the revelation the Lord told Joseph that,

“I have much people in this place, in the regions round about, and an effectual door shall be opened..”

At about this time, Joseph and Sidney preached to large congregations in the area. Family histories indicate that Thomas Grover was taught the gospel during a visit by Joseph Smith when he was accompanied by Sidney Rigdon.

Again, Thomas Grover served on the High Council in Nauvoo when the polygamy controversy arose.

Thomas Grover would eventually join the RLDS church and like, other leading organizers of the reorganized church, he provided a personal witness that Joseph Smith taught the celestial wives doctrine.

After joining the reorganization, Thomas Grover reminisced as follows.

“The High Council of Nauvoo, was called together by the Prophet Joseph Smith, to know whether they would accept the revelation on celestial marriage or not.

“Brother Hyrum was called upon to read the revelation. He did so, and after reading it said

“Now, you that believe this revelation and go forth and obey the same shall be saved, and you that reject it shall be damned“ (See “The Nauvoo City and High Council Minutes” by John S. Dinger)

“..Of the Presidency of the Stake, William Marks and Father [Austin] Coles [Cowles] rejected the revelation; of the Council that were present, Leonard Soby rejected it. From that time forward there was a very strong division in the High Council..”

The Testimony of James Whitehead

James Whitehead was also a member of the reorganization who served as a clerk to Joseph Smith III. He also affirmed that he witnessed Emma give plural wives to Joseph Smith Jr on several occasions. (Quinn 1994, p. 237,442; Launius 1988, p. 207)

As you can see, when young Joseph Smith III stated in his inaugural speech that he had been informed by some that his father Joseph Smith Jr. had been the one to introduce polygamy into the church, he was not referring to just the Brighamites in Utah or any other outside factions besides the Reorganization.

He was primarily referring to the very leaders of the reorganization that had recruited him to lead the New Organization.

It must have been a very difficult and delicate process for people like Jason Briggs and William Marks to negotiate with Joseph Smith III, given the fact that these leaders knew from personal knowledge that Joseph had been involved in polygamy, yet Joseph Smith III did not want to hear it and was in total denial.

Clearly there were some difficult communications and negotiations that took place.

All of these founders of what would become the Reorganized Church, agreed with Joseph Smith III that polygamy was wrong.

It appears that they were willing to allow young Joseph to believe whatever he wanted to on the matter.

It was ultimately the doctrine of linear decent that enabled both groups to rationalize and compromise their opinions on the matter.

As you can see, when Joseph Smith III said in his inaugural speech:

“I have been told that my father taught such doctrines..”

He was obviously speaking about the very men of the reorganization that recruited him such as Jason W. Briggs, Austin Cowles, Thomas Grover,
Isaac Sheen, James Whitehead and William Marks

Every single testimony above is from one of the founders or early participants of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.

There are obviously others that could be added to the list.

I have not needed to draw upon any of the Utah Mormons to show that it was not just those that followed the leadership of Brigham Young that testified that Joseph Smith Jr. was the secret instigator of the polygamy practice in Nauvoo.

Historians have been aware that the early founders and leaders of the Reorganized Church knew that Joseph Smith Jr practiced polygamy. This what

“..while reorganizers were united in their opposition to polygamy they were not of one mind regarding the martyrs involvement in it. Launius notes that high church leaders, the ones most knowledgeable about Nauvoo knew that young Josephs father had practiced polygamy but joseph believed his father a good man and also that a good man would not practice polygamy.

He had to deny it. As the older leaders who knew better, died off young Joseph became more vigorous in his denials of his father’s involvement. Gradually the church committed itself to this historical coverup

And this brings us full circle to the beginning of this series.

If we fast forward, to the remarkable desire and commitment of modern leaders and historians of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints to have “a goal of producing more honest, less defensive history”.

I have now documented in this episode, some of the most compelling testimonies from the founders and leaders of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints which has now changed it’s name to The Community of Christ.

However, it is also worth noting in this episode that two of Joseph Smith’s councilors who knew his workings intimately were Sidney Rigdon and William Law.

Both of those amazing leaders rejected the doctrine of polygamy and the leadership of Brigham Young and yet both of them testified that Joseph Smith was the instigator of the practice.

Both of these men have been the victims of character assassination by LDS authors, historians and leaders.

However, my research convinces me that these men along with Stake President William Marks were three of the most noble and honest men of the restoration.

None of them would have lied about Joseph Smith’s involvement nor would they have anything to gain from it.

According to William Law, the church in Nauvoo had departed from the pure principles that had been revealed and taught in Kirtland.

He and others had petitioned Joseph to publicly confess and repent of the abominations he was involved in without having to have all of the details exposed to public scrutiny.

However Joseph emphatically refused to publicly acknowledge his personal involvement for fear that the public confession would cause the ruin and total overthrow the restored church. The following is taken from the much maligned Nauvoo Expositor that had been published to shine a light on the corruption taking place:

“We are earnestly seeking to expose the vicious principles of Joseph Smith, and those who practice the same abominations and whoredoms; which we verily know are not accordant and consonant with the principles of Jesus Christ and the Apostles…

Many of us have sought a reformation in the church, without a public exposition of the enormities of crimes practiced by its leaders, thinking that if they would hearken to counsel, and shew fruit meet for repentance, it would be as acceptable with God, as though they were exposed to public gaze..

.. but our petitions were treated with contempt; and in many cases the petitioner spurned from their presence, and particularly by Joseph, who would state that if he had sinned, and was guilty of the charges we would charge ..him with, he would not make acknowledgment, but would rather be damned; for it would detract from his dignity, and would consequently ruin and prove the overthrow of the Church.”

Lets not forget that it is a matter of public record that Joseph’s brother Hyrum Smith presented the revelation on polygamy to the Nauvoo High Council making him one of the most prolific witnesses of Joseph Smith’s involvement.

There are numerous other witnesses of Joseph smith’s involvement that did not follow Brigham Young to Utah. Here are just a few

There is a bigger picture at Play

This concludes my documentation of the founders and leaders of the Reorganization that testified of Joseph’s involvement in polygamy.

It is astounding to me how people with very little historical knowledge and even less understanding of prophecy are rising up as historical revisionists to claim Joseph Smith has been unfairly accused of his involvement in the practice of the spiritual wife doctrine.

It is particularly curious how so many of the fringe groups have latched on to this fairy tale.

Those who are familiar with the secret history of Mormonism can see a much bigger picture, realizing that both the leaders and members of the church were condemned in 1834 because they broke the everlasting covenant.

Indeed, all of this had been foretold in ancient and modern revelation. The following warning came in one of the very first revelations that Joseph Smith received, and yet, less than 1% of Mormons are familiar with the following passages which have been suppressed:

“And thus, if the people of this generation harden not their hearts, I will work a reformation among them, and I will put down all lyings, and deceivings, and priestcrafts, and envyings, and strifes, and idolatries, and sorceries, and all manner of iniquities, and I will establish my church, like unto the church which was taught by my disciples in the days of old.

And now if this generation do harden their hearts against my word, behold I will deliver them up unto Satan,
for he reigneth and hath power at this time, for he hath got great hold upon the hearts of the people of this generation”

Ancient Prophecy Supports the Testimonies

The above testimonies of Jason W. Briggs, Austin Cowles, Thomas Grover,
Isaac Sheen, James Whitehead and William Marks are beyond compelling. They were not associated with Brigham Young and the Utah Mormons and they had no reason to lie about Joseph Smith’s involvement in polygamy.

In addition to those testimonies from the founders of the RLDS Church, there are numerous testimonies from people like Hyrum Smith, Sidney Rigdon and William Law who also had no reason to lie about Joseph Smith’s involvement.

However, the testimonies that have been presented in this episode are not nearly as compelling as the testimonies of the ancient prophets who foretold about the Davidic Servant that would commit iniquity and be chastised by the rod of man.

As we continue in this series we will show from modern and ancient prophecy that the testimonies shared in this episode are backed up by scripture.

I am sorry about the delay in posting part 2 of the series on the RLDS Church and Joseph Smith’s involvement in Polygamy, I have been house sitting for my son and have not had my computer with me.. I hope to post it shortly..

In the mean time, I got the following question recently and thought it might be worth sharing

I was on a forum yesterday talking to an individual who is convinced that John is the end-time servant and I realized, despite still being convinced that it is Joseph, that I don’t fully understand why the scriptures talk about John being the one to restore all things. What am I missing?

14 Q. What are we to understand by the little book which was ^aeaten by John, as mentioned in the 10th chapter of Revelation?A. We are to understand that it was a mission, and an ordinance, for him to ^bgather the tribes of Israel; behold, this is Elias, who, as it is written, must come and ^crestore all things.

This was my reply to him-

Several thoughts come to mind regarding this question which has come up repeatedly over the years..

First, whenever you have an apparent discrepancy or contradiction in scripture, it is important to see which side has the most supporting data. ” in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” or something like that.. LOL

Clearly, the return of Joseph Smith has a huge amount of credible supporting data with somewhere between 15 and 20 direct revelatory evidences and at least three directly from scripture stating in essence that he will return under the direction of Jesus Christ to fulfill his mission and the gathering.. In addition to those evidences which are extremely direct and easy to interpret, there is a whole other realm of secondary, indirect set of evidences which cumulatively  present a very large and entailed picture.

On the other hand, the passage you quote above from Section 77, (the way many people interpret it), has very little supporting evidence. The few that exist are generally vague and seem to do largely with missionary work, but not specifically the role of the end times servant..

Another point to consider is the fact that Section 77 is not a thus sayeth the Lord revelation that was canonized by Joseph Smith under the direction of the Lord, It was apparently stated by Joseph and written by someone else and finally canonized by Pratt and Brigham Young in 1876.

Hence, you have the scriptures that were endorsed by God before Joseph’s death, in section 124, with the warning the “anything more or less than this cometh of evil” vs some items of instruction added many years later which appear to contradict the established word of God..

It is interesting to note the “there are no early copies of this section extant, and but few others for text comparison” (The HIstorical Development of the Doctrine and Covenants by Woodford Pg 974)

Another thing to consider is that although there seems to be one primary end times servant, it is apparent that there are actually two of them with many other high-profile players.

Certainly John and the three Nephites will participate in the grand work of bringing souls to Christ, and for that matter, Oliver and Sidney and Hyrum and Lyman and others have huge parts to play..

Several Old Testament prophecies speak of Joseph and Sidney in tandem and it is frankly not easy to always differentiate their roles.

Section 35 leaves us hanging by telling us that Sidney has a great future role to play in the “great work” which is similar to that of John the Baptist.. but it never informs us what it is.. then in section 93 we are informed that the administration of Joseph works closely with the administration of Sidney, yet they are two separate administrations.. and since Joseph is responsible for bringing forth the word and Sidney and others are responsible for taking the word to the nations and teaching it, it is possible that Joseph could be largely in the background in the beginning of the grand work with Sidney being the high profile servant.. wouldn’t that be a real test for mainstream Mormons that have been indoctrinated to think that Sidney is evil!!

I find it interesting that section 29 itemizes several keys players and seems to possibly identify someone other than Joseph as the Elias that will “restore all things” I guess that is something one could argue in favor of John the Revelator, however, I personally think Sidney or someone else would be the more likely candidate if in fact if is not Joseph..

Clearly we don’t have a perfect knowledge of how things will evolve in the final end times events and there is a reason for that as it will be a revelatory test for all of us..

And then you have the following clarification in the JST

• 10 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come and restore all things, as the prophets have written.
  
• 11 And again I say unto you that Elias has come already, concerning whom it is written, Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and they knew him not and have done unto him whatsoever they listed.
  
• 12 Likewise shall also the Son of Man suffer of them.
  
• 13 But I say unto you, Who is Elias? Behold, this is Elias, whom I send to prepare the way before me.
  
• 14 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist, and also of another, who should come and restore all things, as it is written by the prophets.
  

If  John the Baptist is the original Elias that restores all things.. and there is to be another one…. and John the Baptist gave his keys to Joseph and Oliver,  (section 13) It seems likely that one or both of them represent the last Elias that restores all things and perhaps that is why it was again Joseph and Oliver who jointly  received the keys of the gathering in section 110..

One needs to realize that the end times servant is not necessarily the one who restores “all things“….

Another fascinating passage that I will simply provide for your consideration but will decline to elaborate deeply on at this time, is as follows:

• 26 And they asked him and said unto him; Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elias who was to restore all things, neither that [end times] prophet?
  
• 27 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
  
• 28 He it is of whom I bear record. He is that prophet, even Elias, who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose or whose place I am not able to fill; for he shall baptize, not only with water, but with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
  

(keep in mind that the term “all things” sometimes has reference to the Holy Ghost which teaches you “all things“… hint hint..

Anyway, there are other considerations that are fascinating but I have some errands to run… those are the ones that are top of mind.. sorry if some of the above quotes are a little off, I don’t have my scriptures handy

Great question… frankly, your time getting into doctrinal pissing matches with people on messaging boards is going to be largely a waste of time with regard to changing their minds… but it is a great opportunity for you to search deeper and deeper as questions are asked and pondered

To begin this series we shall consider the astounding faith, knowledge, courage and integrity of the above three people in their involvement that ultimately resulted in the making of an institutional decision that rocked the very foundations of the faith tradition they loved and had believed in.

We shall also revisit the true origins of the RLDS Church and show how the original leaders of the movement testified that Joseph Smith was the true originator of Mormon Polygamy.

Along the way, we shall make note of the ultimate testimony that puts this matter to rest; the testimony of prophecy.

The three men shown above, and several others were involved in the making a calculated decision that had catastrophic consequences on the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.

Their decision had to do with admitting that a foundational historic claim of their faith tradition was wrong. Their faith tradition had taught them that Brigham Young was the originator of Mormon polygamy, not Joseph Smith.

However, we will observe historical documentation to show that the true foundational leaders of the RLDS church never considered Brigham Young to be the originator of Mormon polygamy. They knew from their own personal involvement with Joseph Smith that he was the instigator.

This story begins with the remarkable desire of a core number of people to challenge the deeply embedded belief within an institution, causing the institution to fragment.

Once the evidence was so great that they could no longer deny it, they did the right thing.

They told the truth.

The courage of leaders and historians within the RLDS Church to reverse the historical claims of the institution despite the inevitable fractures that would be caused by making such a public admission is a remarkable and painful one.

To fully understand the truth behind the confusing and messy historical narrative, one must understand the prophetic context provided in ancient scripture.

My Own Curiosity About the Controversy

As a young curious and impressionable boy, I would often peruse the LDS books on my father’s bookshelf. It was during those early years that I acquired a real curiosity about prophecy as I borrowed and read “Prophecy Key to the Future” by Duane Crowther.

Another one of the many books that caught my attention was a pamphlet documenting a written exchange between one of the Smiths’ of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and his cousin who was a leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.

The debate between these two cousins was on whether or not Joseph Smith was the instigator of polygamy.

Although I was not nearly as fascinated with history as I was with prophecy, I found the topic of polygamy and the spiritual wife doctrine fascinating.

I would eventually realize that religious history cannot be fully understood until viewed through the eyes of prophecy.

Many years later I was shocked when the RLDS Church changed it’s position on the polygamy issue and changed it’s name to the Community of Christ. It seemed like they morphed into a protestant church instead of a restoration church, almost overnight.

I remember how some of their main-streamers left the church at that time, unwilling to give up their core beliefs

Meeting a Future Apostle in Nauvoo

Several years ago during one of my pilgrimages to Nauvoo, I had the opportunity to meet with one of the Community of Christ historical site administrators who is also one of their historians. Little did I know at that time that he was soon to be made an apostle of the Community of Christ Church.

I quizzed him about several historical and doctrinal things related to some of the things I have discovered and written about over the years.

He was kind enough to refer me to some sources that supported some of the beliefs I have about history and doctrine.

During the conversation he said some very interesting things and I was surprised at how candid he was in acknowledging Joseph Smith’s involvement in polygamy.

One of the things I got from the conversation is that for years, the leaders of the RLDS and LDS church debated back and forth over whether Joseph Smith was really involved in polygamy. He indicated that many years later, when the top historians and officials of the RLDS church could no longer deny the overwhelming flood of evidence that Joseph was involved in it, it really threw their church into an identity crisis, as well as a crisis of faith.

That is largely what ultimately motivated the RLDS church to change its name, take its emphasis off of church history, off of the importance of Joseph Smith and even off of the Book of Mormon; according to some, the Book of Mormon was relegated to a book with good principles in it, that was no longer considered scripture.

Fast forward several years later and I found myself sitting next to and chatting with John Hamer, another high-profile member of the RLDS/Community of Christ who has been a pastor and historian.

He was familiar with my blog and remembered chatting with me in the comments section of his Mormonstories interview. (John Hamer, Mike Quinn, William Shepherd and every other credible LDS historian all agree that Joseph Smith secretly practiced polygamy.)

In my conversation with John Hamer, I asked him if he knew John and Pamela Price and if he was familiar with their research supporting the belief that Joseph smith was not involved in practicing polygamy. This was his response to me about the Prices:

” The Prices are wrong about Joseph and polygamy. They are in the “Josephite” (RLDS) tradition, but they are not in Community of Christ. They are independent “Restorationists” (meaning conservatives who separated from the RLDS Church).

I’m familiar with their arguments; I’ve read their book. Their book is entirely uninformed of the evidence; it’s not actual scholarship; it’s simply a repeat of old pre-scholarly RLDS polemics that have been discredited. I have not personally met them or conversed with them on the topic, although I have been to their book store in Independence.”

“John Hamer is the editor of John Whitmer Books and President of the John Whitmer Historical Association (the Community of Christ’s equivalent of MHA). In Mormon studies, John has produced maps for the LDS Church Historian’s Press, Herald Publishing House, Greg Kofford Books, the Journal of Mormon History, Mormon Historic Studies, the JWHA Journal, and Restoration Studies, among others.”

An Institutional Paradigm Change

Beginning in the 1960’s, an amazing and bold historical paradigm change began to take place among historians and leaders of the RLDS Church. It is referred to by some as the New Mormon History.

“Richard P. Howard was one of the first three RLDS historians to join the Mormon History Association (MHA), and he was among the original fifteen founders of the John Whitmer Historical Association (JWHA) on September 18, 1972. He served as president of JWHA in 1985^[12] and as president of MHA in 1990–91.^[13]

Also among the founders of JWHA was Howard’s assistant in the Church Historian’s Office, W. Grant McMurray. McMurray later became a member of the church’s First Presidency, rising ultimately to become prophet-president of the church.^[2]

By the 1960s and 1970s, the traditional RLDS view that Brigham Young rather than Joseph Smith Jr. was the origin of Mormon polygamy had been called into question by scholars of the New Mormon History. In 1965, Robert B. Flanders, a professor of history at Graceland College published Nauvoo: Kingdom on the Mississippi.
Flanders concluded that the traditional RLDS view was incorrect, asserting instead that the practice had indeed originated with Joseph Smith.^[14]

In 1977, the First Presidency of the RLDS Church directed Howard to investigate the issue. Several years of careful study led Howard to generally agree with Flanders’ conclusions.

His seminal article on the topic, “The Changing RLDS Response to Mormon Polygamy: A Preliminary Analysis” (1983), opened the door to reassess the church’s official policy.^[15] However, as Howard recalled decades later, this study was “heavily edited” and “watered down” at the direction of church leaders and Howard considered its final form to be “a painful compromise.”^[16]

Among Howard’s final accomplishments as church historian was the production of The Church through the Years, published in two volumes in 1992 and 1993. Volume 1 was subtitled “RLDS Beginnings to 1860” and Volume 2 was subtitled “The Reorganization Comes of Age, 1860–1992.”

As Howard explains in his introduction, the work resulted from the desire of RLDS prophet-president W. Wallace Smith to have “a more legitimate history of the church” with the goal of producing “a more honest, less defensive history”. (Wiki)

It is apparent that LDS historians had an impact on the views of RLDS historians and leaders in their decision to finally admit the truth publicly about Joseph Smith’s involvement. However, those that know the truth about how the RLDS Church actually began and the history behind it, realize that the real originators of the movement never believed that Joseph Smith was innocent of the practice. They actually provided some of the most compelling testimony that Joseph Smith was the originator of the polygamy/spiritual wife practice.

As we consider the testimony of the real founders of the reorganization and augment their personal testimonies with what anxient prophecy says about Joseph Smith, it will show the grand folly of all of the people who are now jumping on the “Joseph Smith never practiced polygamy” bandwagon.

First Samuel 28 contains a narrative that has baffled bible scholars for centuries because it presumably tells the story of a “witch” calling up the disembodied spirit of the prophet Samuel from the dead.

Adding to the confusion is the fact that it fails to condemn the actions of the witch, and fails to question the authenticity of Samuel’s spirit, leading some scholars to question whether it is really the prophet Samuel or not.

In every usage in the bible, the term “witch” is a negative descriptive.

Typically the term witch refers to a wicked female that conjures up the spirits of the dead with spiritual powers derived through a contract with the devil and by use of a “familiar spirit” or demon as the intermediary for communicating with the dead.

Interestingly, even though countless articles and bible chapter headings refer to the woman in this chapter as “The Witch of Endor” the chapter NEVER even uses the term witch to describe the woman.

The real keyword used in the narrative that leads people to assume that the woman is a witch, is the word “familiar spirit“. Witches work through familiar spirits. A familiar spirit is a demon through which the witch communicates with the spirit world.

The remarkable thing about the narrative in 1 Samuel 28, which is lost on many LDS scholars, is that in the Inspired version of the Bible, the passage wherein the woman fears for her life and asks if a snare is being laid to take away her life, is altered.

In the revised passage, the women with a remarkable spiritual gift differentiates herself from that of a witch by declaring that she does not have or use a “familiar spirit” to call up the dead!

The rest of the narrative is history.. a very misunderstood history of a remarkable event and a remarkable woman.

Following the declaration that she does not have a familiar spirit, she is assured by Saul who is traveling incognito, that she would not be dealt with like the “witches” had been dealt with.

1Sam 28:1 And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

1Sam 28:2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head forever.

1Sam 28:3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land.

Here are a few questions and definitions to ponder..

What is witchcraft?

WITCHCRAFT, [witch and craft.]

1. The practices of witches; sorcery; enchantments; intercourse with the devil.

What is a witch?

1. A woman who by compact with the devil, practices sorcery or enchantment.

2. A woman who is given to unlawful arts.

Is there anything in the narrative that suggests that the women in the narrative had a compact with the devil?

No. in fact, just the opposite.

A witch is someone that has a familiar spirit which is a demon through which the witch communicates with the spirit world. Yet the woman in the narrative did not have a familiar spirit.

noun: familiar spirit

1. a demon supposedly attending and obeying a witch, often said to assume the form of an animal.
   

In the Joseph Smith Translation the so-called witch of Endor actually denied having a familiar spirit

“Wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die also, who hath not a familiar spirit?”

What is “enchantment”?

ENCH’ANTMENT, noun The act of producing certain wonderful effects by the invocation or aid of demons, or the agency of certain supposed spirits; the use of magic arts, spells or charms; incantation.

The magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments. Exodus 7:11.

What is a “demon”?

According to Websters 1828

The demons of the New Testament were supposed to be spiritual beings which vexed and tormented men. And in general, the word, in modern use, signifies an evil spirit or genius, which influences the conduct or directs the fortunes of mankind.

Did the spirit of Samuel try to influence the conduct and fortunes of men or influence Saul to fight for not fight the army of the enemy?

No. The Prophet Samuel simply prophesied what would happen to Saul and his army.

Was the spirit that the woman called up an “evil spirit” or “evil genius” ?

I don’t see anything to suggest that the spirit was evil.

What is Sorcery?

SOR’CERY, noun Magic; enchantment; witchcraft; divination b[y] the assistance of evil spirits, or the power of commanding evil spirits. Adder’s wisdom I have learn’d to fence my ears against the sorceries.

Was the spirit who is claimed to be Samuel the prophet actually Samuel the Prophet?

Yes. The narrative suggests that it was. It never challenges the claim that it was the spirit of Samuel the Prophet.

Is it possible that there are women with spiritual gifts that can call up disembodied spirits rather than demons?

The narrative suggests that there are.

Can they do what they do, without the aid of a familiar spirit or demon?

The narrative suggests that they can.

Was the woman practicing necromancy?

What is necromancy

NECROMANCY, noun [Gr. Dead, and divination.]

1. The art of revealing future events by means of a pretended communication with the dead. This imposture is prohibited. Deuteronomy 18:1.

The narrative characterizes the event as being authentic, not a pretended fabrication.

Was Saul a righteous or wicked king?

Wicked.

Did the spirit of Samuel give Saul the advice he was asking for?

No.

NO advice was given.

Samuel the prophet simply prophesies accurately about what would happen to Saul and his army because of his previous transgression in having refused the commandment of God to destroy Amalek which was a wicked nation described in the Hebrew Bible as a staunch enemy of the Israelites?

Based on the inspired changes that Joseph Smith made in the Inspired Version of the Bible, I believe this chapter proves that the woman in Endor was not a witch, rather, she was a righteous woman who had been blessed with a spiritual gift of being able to communicate with disembodied spirits, without having to use a familiar spirit as an intermediary.

One of the most bizarre teachings in Mormonism is the teaching that the Book of Mormon is the “Stick of Ephraim” that Ezekiel spoke of in Ezekiel 37.

16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

In this post I will show why I believe the Stick of Ephraim represents a canon of scripture which is written primarily to the tribe of Ephraim so that they can “hearken” unto the word of the Lord, and secondly to the “inhabitants of the earth” so that they can “fear and tremble”. In other words, I will show why I believe the Stick of Ephraim is the Book of Commandments, not the Book of Mormon.

Clearly, this is my speculation. Everyone should do their own prayerful research.

I have a reader of this blog that claims there is no historical evidence to suggest that the word “stick” is ever used to refer to a “book” or “canon of scripture”.

I agree with him.

However, since he cannot show more a more plausible interpretation of what the word stick refers to in Ezekial 37, and since Joseph claimed to be unfolding a mystery when he made the claim that the word stick refers to a canon of scripture, I have chosen to accept Joseph Smith’s interpretation until further light can overturn the interpretation.

From the very early days of my journey in studying the gospel and the history of the church, I would have a visceral reaction and a feeling of uncomfortableness whenever the Book of Mormon was referred to as the Stick of Ephraim.

This made no sense; it was a conundrum to me.

It seemed like a contradiction in terms. Why would the Book of Mormon which is a record of the descendants of Joseph and Manasseh be called the stick of Ephraim?

Could the Book of Mormon be called the Stick of Joseph?

Yes.

Could the Book of Mormon be called the Stick, or Record of Manassah?

I suppose.

Does it make sense to call the Book of Mormon the Stick, or Record of Ephraim.

No!

I realize that this teaching about the Book of Mormon being the stick of Ephraim took root very early in the restoration movement, primarily because of a passage in Section 27.

Some might argue that it was endorsed and promoted by Joseph Smith in statements he made.

However, I have attempted to research the places where Joseph Smith supposedly referred to the Book of Mormon as the Stick of Ephraim and I can not find anything authoritative and definitive.

I did find a statement in the history of the church that was made in the first person of Joseph Smith even though it was someone else making the statement. Apparently, this was a common practice by some of the early historians, in an effort to provide historical continuity and credibility when speaking of historical events and doctrinal pronouncements. I find it repugnant.

I feel so strongly about this issue, that even if Joseph Smith had taught it, I would probably still be somewhat skeptical with it.

Why?

Because I always go with the established and sustained word of God over the words of living or dead prophets if they contradict scripture.

The standard works that have been sustained by the Law of Common Consent and by the Lord Himself in revelation, always trump all other conflicting commentators regardless of what their real or imagined position of authority is.

The hard fact is that human beings who are divinely inspired can make mistakes and sometimes have personal opinions that are wrong.

I realize that this concept makes some Mormons very uncomfortable. Although they give lip-service to the doctrine of fallibility publicly, secretly, they believe in infallibility of the Lord’s “prophets”.

Unwavering faith in human priesthood authority is largely why the modern church is in the state of apostasy it is in right now.

The Book of Commandments and
Doctrine and Covenants
Contain Sealed Mysteries

In this series I have pointed out that God has locked up many mysteries in the revelations that Joseph Smith received from the Lord. Some have already been revealed by those that search the scriptures. Others will ultimately be revealed when the “first Laborers of the Last Kingdom” return to unfold and expound upon the remaining mysteries.

Some of the meanings behind some of the mysteries in the Doctrine and Covenants are locked up because of what seems like cryptic and confusing wording.

I bring this point up because one of the grand mysteries that we are covering in this series, is the final role of the of the revelations Joseph Smith received from the Lord and how they influence our interpretation and understanding of the prophecies and doctrines found in the Bible and Book of Mormon.

In this post I am suggesting that even the revelations Joseph received are largely shrouded in mystery, and intentionally hard to identify in ancient scripture.

I believe the true identity of the stick of Ephraim has been a mystery that has been kept secret from most Latter day Saints.

Let us begin our investigation of this topic by reviewing the ancient passages in Ezekiel that speak of the Stick of Ephraim and then we will deconstruct what is being said:

15 ¶ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

18 ¶ And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

20 ¶ And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

Here are some questions to ask and things to ponder as you parse the above passages.

Is the text speaking of two sticks or three sticks?

I would submit that three sticks are mentioned.

• The Stick of Judah
  
• The Stick of Joseph
  
• The stick of Ephraim
  

The modern church and virtually all other branches of the LDS restoration teach that the terms “Stick of Joseph” and “Stick of Ephraim” in the above passages are synonymous.

But are they?

I suppose it could be interpreted that way but is there anything in the text the definitively declares that they are synonymous?

I don’t think so.

Is there a reason to believe they are not synonymous and that the Stick of Joseph and the Stick of Ephraim represent two different and distinct sticks, or canons of scripture?

Yes.

Common sense tells you that the stick of Joseph could be identifying a larger demographic within Israel while the Stick of Ephraim would be identifying a smaller sub-demographic within Israel.

Another more powerful evidence is provided by visiting other ancient texts that are addressing the same topic.

2^nd Nephi 29 in the Book of Mormon clearly explains that there are at least three canons of scripture .

Here are the passages from that text with interpretive clarifications that I inserted from a blog post article I wrote about 13 years ago.

“For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it; [Bible]

and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; [Book of Mormon]

and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, [Gentile Church of the Restoration from the Kirtland period, descending from Pilgrims who were Ephraimites] and they shall write it; [The revelations Joseph Smith brought forth  and compiled in the Book of Commandments]

and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth [the lost tribes… ie, the converts coming into Nauvoo from the establishment of foreign missions who were the outcasts of Israel and the dispersed of Judah] and they shall write it. [The revelations that Joseph Smith brought forth in the Doctrine and Covenants]

 13 And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.”

In the above text, the Book of Commandments and the Doctrine and Covenants could be considered to be one record or two, depending on how you interpret the passages.

The summary of what was being said in the above passages lists three tribal demographics associated with three books of scripture that would all have access to the other two books; the book of the Jews, the Book of the Nephites, and the Book of the Lost Tribes of Israel (saints of the restoration).

Mysteriously, the fourth book that had been mentioned, (the Book of Commandments) was not enjoyed as a canon of scripture by the three general demographics mentioned..

I realize that many readers of this blog are going to reject the notion that the believing gentiles that became Latter day Saints during the Kirtland era of the restoration, and the other remnants of Israel that began gathering into the church during the Nuvoo era, are classed from among the “lost tribes” because there is a prominent “lost tribes” narrative in scripture that hijacks the storyline. But I would suggest that the outcasts of Israel and the dispersed of Judah who had been mingled among the gentiles nations and lost their tribal identity are indeed “lost tribes”.

But frankly, those remnants had been mingled among the gentiles and had clearly lost their tribal identity until the Lord revealed by revelation that they were of the tribe of Israel.

Is that not the personification of what lost tribes are?

In section 103 the Lord told the saints of the restoration that these believing gentiles were of the House of Israel:

17 For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham, and ye must needs be led out of bondage by power, and with a stretched-out arm.

In section 109 He informs the saints that they are of the tribe of Jacob, but are identified
among the Gentiles.

60 Now these words, O Lord, we have spoken before thee, concerning the revelations and commandments which thou hast given unto us, who are identified with the Gentiles.

61 But thou knowest that thou hast a great love for the children of Jacob, who have been scattered upon the mountains for a long time, in a cloudy and dark day.

For the purposes of this discussion, the point is that the above clarification from 2^nd Nephi 29, appears to be speaking about the same topic as Ezekiel 37 and it provides evidence that Ezekiel was speaking about three canons of scripture, not just two.

He was identifying the Stick of Judah, the stick of Joseph and the stick of Ephraim as separate and distinct canons of scripture.

2^nd Nephi 29 is one of several reasons why I believe that the Ezekiel is identifying three canons of scripture, not two.

The Joseph the Seer Prophecy

Yet another prophetic witness that Ezekiel is referring to three canons of scripture, is found in the Joseph the Seer narrative in 2^nd Nephi 3.

In it, once again we find at least three canons of scripture being mentioned as an outgrowth of Joseph Smith’s work.

Again I am taking the liberty of inserting clarifying text:

11 But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins (The revelations Joseph Smith received)—and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them. (referring to when the revelations Joseph Smith initially brought forth will become relevant and understood at a later time. )

12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write (The Book of Mormon and revelations Joseph Smith brought forth)
; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; (The Bible) and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

The prophetic narrative in 2^nd Nephi 3 reveals the coming forth of three books of scripture.

My words: The revelations Joseph brought forth which is written by the fruits of the loins of Joseph

The Book of Mormon: Written also by the fruit of the loins of Joseph

The Bible: Written by the fruit of the loins of Judah

Once again, we have ancient scripture detailing three separate and distinct canons of scripture. And it reminds us that that both the Book of Mormon and the canonized revelations brought forth through Joseph Smith were written by two separate strands of the loins of Joseph.

The prophetic narratives in 2^nd Nephi 3 and 2^nd Nephi 29 represent two independent scriptural witnesses that Ezekiel is speaking of three canons of scripture.

2^nd Nephi 3 informs us that Joseph Smith is a type of Moses. This means that he not only was a seer who translated ancient plates, such as the Book of Mormon and the Inspired translation of the Bible, he was also acting as the mouth piece of God, bringing forth new scripture to latter day Israel, just as Moses did to ancient Israel .

Please remember that it is the bringing forth of “my word” that will have previously gone forth among the people when the servants return back into the vineyard, that Joseph Smith and his fellows will use to CONVINCE the fruit of Joseph’s loins of the gospel and the gathering.

Confounding of False Doctrines

The Joseph the Seer narrative reminds us that ultimately all of the canons of scripture will “grow together unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.” 2^nd Nephi 3:12-13)

Did that ever take place during Joseph’s ministry?

Obviously not.

If anything, his first ministry back in the 1800″s created even more confusion, contention, and controversy and the restoration movement, after falling into apostasy, scattered the remnants that he had begun trying to restore to the knowledge of their fathers and gather.

Now that we have the testimony from other ancient scripture that Ezekiel was referencing three different and distinct Sticks, or “books”, we must ask the question, what exactly did Joseph Smith actually teach about this prophecy in Ezekiel?

I have actually found a credible historical document that can legitimately be attributed to Joseph and Sidney Rigdon which I believe sheds much light on this topic.

The Gentile Saints were from Ephraim
The Seed of Lehi are from Menasseh

The following transcript is taken from a letter that Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon sent to Stephen Post on September 17, 1838.

It appears from the content of the letter that Post had been in communication with the prophet and was asking Joseph to reveal what Ezekiel was speaking about regarding the Stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim.

This was Joseph’s response:

“As to the Stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim, I will merely say suppose yourself to be an Ephraimite, and suppose all this church to be, of the blood of Ephraim and the book of Mormon to be a record of Manasseh which would of course [be a re]cord of Joseph, Then suppose you being an Ephraimite, Should take the record of Joseph in your hand, would not then the stick of Joseph of Joseph be in the hand of Ephraim. solve this mistery and se[e].“

Joseph Smith was solving a great mystery having to do with the interpretation of the Stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim, mentioned in the Book of Ezekiel.

Joseph once made the following comment in a sermon he gave in Nauvoo:

“..it has always been my province to dig up hidden mysteries, new things, for my hearers..” (JosephSmithPapers)

Truly Joseph did reveal many mysteries, however he also kept many of them secret. He also made the following declaration:

“The reason we do not have the secrets of the Lord revealed unto us, is because we do not keep them, but reveal them; we do not keep our own secrets, but reveal our difficulties to the world, even to our enemies, then how would we keep the secrets of the Lord? ‘I can keep a secret till Doomsday’”

[Editorial Note: My biggest regret with this blog is that I have talked about secrets that have been plagiarized and bastardized by many of the false teachers and false prophets that are currently arising in this generation.

I feel that I have been inspired to share my findings, but I must confess, it is disconcerting to see what conspiring men are doing with some of the information I have shared. Nevertheless, it was prophesied that this very thing would happen and that the deception would be so great that the very elect would be deceived is possible.

There is a delusional person in Utah Valley that is teaching many of the concepts about doctrine, history and prophecy that he acquired from my body of work. Some of the concepts he teaches correctly and some of them he bastardizes to fit his agenda. He leads people to think that the information he speaks about has been revealed to him via his revelatory experiences rather than from plagiarism]

I agree with the grand secrets Joseph Smith shared with Stephen Post.

What he said makes sense and it squares with scripture.

He revealed that the Book of Mormon is the record of Manasseh one of the sons of Joseph.

Since Manasseh is a descendent of Joseph, the Book of Mormon would also be a record of Joseph.

However in the letter to Stephen Post, Joseph reveals that the believing Gentiles of the Kirtland era were of Ephraim!

That is a fact that is not clearly revealed in the scriptures Joseph brought forth. In fact, it was rarely ever spoken about among the saints. It is one of the many mysteries of the latter day saint restoration movement.

After revealing that the Gentiles saints were of Ephraim, Joseph Smith says nothing about the Book of Mormon being the stick of Ephraim, rather, he clarifies that the seed of Lehi was from Manassah, not Ephraim!

Ezekiel was speaking about three separates “Sticks” or canons of scripture.

Since the Gentile Saints of the restoration represented Ephraim, holding the Stick of Joseph (book of Mormon) in their hands, then it stands to reason that the stick or record of Ephraim would we a separate record having to do with the Ephraimite saints of the restoration!

It would obviously be the canonized revelations Joseph Smith received about Ephraimite Gentiles Saints of the restoration.

A record, or history of the Ephraimite saints of the restored church is canonized in the scriptures that Joseph Smith brought forth.

Joseph was revealing the grand mystery that the first laborers of the last kingdom and their brethren of the restoration represented the tribe of Ephraim and that they were using the Book of Mormon which is a record of Joseph to use in missionary work to further God’s work.

It is interesting to note that the Book of Commandments was attempted to be published in July of 1833 and yet, the last revelation in it was given on September 11th 1831!

Nearly 40 significant revelations were intentionally left out of the Book of Commandments!

It is also interesting to note that in November of 1831 two revelations were given which were to be the preface and appendix of the revelations that Joseph Smith brought forth. They are sections 1 and 133 which are acknowledged as the preface and appendix  in the current Doctrine and Covenants and in the 1844 edition of the Doctrine and Covenants which Joseph and the Saints had sustained and ratified by the time of his death.

Yet, only section 1 was placed in the Book of Commandments while section 133 was intentionally left out. ‘Not only was it not placed as the appendix, it was left out of the cannon of scripture completely.

Why?

It is obvious that Joseph knew that the Book of Commandments would be followed up with a more exhaustive collection of revelations.

Further, the last revelation chosen for the Book of Commandments (Stick of Ephraim) was what we know as section 64 in the Doctrine and Covenants. This is rather fitting for a few reasons.

One is the a time frame of five years is given in that revelation identifying a drop dead date for the saints to establish Zion. A date that came and went without success in establishing Zion. That apparently marked a major transition point between the record of Ephraim (Book of Commandments) demographic and the more general canon of scripture addressing the House of Israel (the Doctrine and Covenants)

Another very interesting thing is that verses 39 through 43 of section 64 were left off of the ending revelation which leaves verse 36 as the final passage:

“For verily I say that the rebellious are not of the blood of Ephraim wherefore, they shall be plucked out”.. 

Unbe-frieken-believable !!!

The word Ephraim only shows up in 4 revelations that Joseph borsht forth and yet, The Stick of Ephraim ends with the bone-chilling declaration that everyone will be plucked out except for those of the blood of Ephraim.

Section 133 was withheld until it could become the appendix for the Doctrine and Covenants.

Notice the amazing narrative in section 133 which addresses the interrelationship of Judah, the lost tribes, and Ephraim

25 And the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh.

26 And they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.

27 And an highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.

28 Their enemies shall become a prey unto them,

29 And in the barren deserts there shall come forth pools of living water; and the parched ground shall no longer be a thirsty land.

30 And they shall bring forth their rich treasures unto the children of Ephraim, my servants.

31 And the boundaries of the everlasting hills shall tremble at their presence.

32 And there shall they fall down and be crowned with glory, even in Zion, by the hands of the servants of the Lord, even the children of Ephraim.

33 And they shall be filled with songs of everlasting joy.

34 Behold, this is the blessing of the everlasting God upon the tribes of Israel, and the richer blessing upon the head of Ephraim and his fellows.

35 And they also of the tribe of Judah, after their pain, shall be sanctified in holiness before the Lord, to dwell in his presence day and night, forever and ever.

All of the various tribes of Israel will be crowned by the servants of the Lord who are of Ephraim.

The true identity of God’s end times Ephraimite servants has largely been kept secret. Joseph Smith was told by God that his lineage had been kept secret from the world:

8 Therefore, thus saith the Lord unto you, with whom the priesthood hath continued through the lineage of your fathers—

9 For ye are lawful heirs, according to the flesh, and have been hid
from the world with Christ in God—

10 Therefore your life and the priesthood have remained, and must needs remain through you and your lineage until the restoration of all things spoken by the mouths of all the holy prophets since the world began.

11 Therefore, blessed are ye if ye continue in my goodness, a light unto the Gentiles, and through this priesthood, a savior unto my people Israel. The Lord hath said it. Amen.

The Holy Ephraimite seed has been hid from the world.

The Lord has also mysteriously low-keyed the role of the revelations Joseph brought forth through cryptic wording in the scriptures, and yet, if you search deep enough, knowing what you are looking for, you can easily substantiate this narrative.

Notice how Hosea prophetically identifies the “law of God” as being written to Ephraim during their time of apostasy in both ancient times as well as during the Kirtland era:

11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Incredible.

During Ephraim’s apostasy and their altars to sin, the great things of the law were given. But they were counted a strange thing. They were taken lightly. This observation is repeated in modern revelation:

5 And all they who receive the oracles of God, let them beware how they hold them lest they are accounted as a light thing, and are brought under condemnation thereby, and stumble and fall when the storms descend, and the winds blow, and the rains descend, and beat upon their house.

Notwithstanding the apostasy they were in, the Ephraimite laborers just kept on seeking out Israel and growing the latter day kingdom… and in their apostate condition Hosea informs us that latter day Israel simply “buildeth temples“.

Building Temples has become the poster child of the latter day apostate church!

The idolatry of temple building and temple worship fueled by a false masonic endowment is how the modern church preaches another gospel and retains it’s members.

The Book of Jeremiah warns how God’s ancient and latter day apostate people always make temple worship an idolatrous undertaking:

3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

Ok, having made my case for why the Stick of Ephraim refers to the canonized revelations that Joseph Smith brought forth rather than the Book of Mormon, lets now parse through the modern revelation that has caused all of the confusion.

It is found in section 27 of the Doctrine and Covenants.

To set the stage, I want to show one of the many ways that I believe God conceals his secrets in scripture, from those that take the scriptures lightly.

For lack of better terminology, I believe God inserts textual sub-narratives within textual primary narratives to disguise the primary point. The sub-texts or sub-narratives usually distract the reader from noticing the conclusion of the primary topic.

Here is a textbook example of this principle out of section 85. The sub-narrative is highlighted in yellow:

It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by consecration, agreeable to his law, which he has given, that he may tithe his people, to prepare them against the day of vengeance and burning, should have their names enrolled with the people of God. Neither is their genealogy to be kept, or to be had where it may be found on any of the records or history of the church. D&C 85:3-4

This is what the passage looks like with the sub-narrative removed:

It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by consecration agreeable to his law, which he has given, should have their names enrolled with the people of God. Neither is their genealogy to be kept, or to be had where it may be found on any of the records or history of the church. D&C 85:3-4

If latter day Saints knew how to read the above passages, they would realize that they have been forbidden from doing genealogy work until they have received their inheritance by consecration.

Sadly there are no people living today in the modern church who have received their inheritance by consecration. For that reason, there are no people on the earth who currently have their names enrolled with the people of God on the earth, as of yet. For this reason, no one is currently justified in doing genealogy work for the dead.

Those types of passages that mingle sub-narratives within primary narratives are all over in the scriptures, concealing mysteries.

Another great example of this principle is narratives within narratives is found in section 84. Verse 3 begins speaking about the temple lot in the state of Missouri. However a sneaky topic change takes place beginning in verse 4 through part of verse 6 which begins to prophesy of the rearing of the Kirtland Temple in that generation that Joseph Smith was living in. If you are not paying attention, you miss the fact that the Kirtland Temple is being prophesied of in verses 4-6.

During verse 6, a new subtext then takes the mind of the reader off of the topic of the Kirtland Temple by providing critical information about priesthood. Finally, verse 31 picks up where verse 6 left off and the topic of the Kirtland Temple is once again addressed:

4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, [Kirtland Ohio] even the place of the temple, which temple [the Kirtland Temple] shall be reared in this generation.

5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house.

6 And the sons of Moses, according to the Holy Priesthood..

31 Therefore, as I said concerning the sons of Moses—for the sons of Moses and also the sons of Aaron shall offer an acceptable offering and sacrifice in the house of the Lord, which house shall be built unto the Lord in this generation, upon the consecrated spot as I have appointed—

32 And the sons of Moses and of Aaron shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, upon Mount Zion in the Lord’s house, whose sons are ye; and also many whom I have called and sent forth to build up my church.

As you can see, the Lord is revealing that the building of the Kirtland Temple and an offering that would be made in it by the Sons of Moses and Aaron, represents the “acceptable offering” that would be made in that generation.

Was the Kirtland Temple completed in that generation?

Yes.

Did the Sons of Moses and Aaron offer up an offering that was accepted by the Lord?

Yes.

You can read about visitation behind the veil in which Joseph and Oliver petitioned the Lord and had His glory rest upon them, as their offering was accepted by the Lord.

It is in section 110

7 For behold, I have accepted this house, and my name shall be here; and I will manifest myself to my people in mercy in this house.

8 Yea, I will appear unto my servants, and speak unto them with mine own voice, if my people will keep my commandments, and do not pollute this holy house.

9 Yea the hearts of thousands and tens of thousands shall greatly rejoice in consequence of the blessings which shall be poured out, and the endowment with which my servants have been endowed in this house.

10 And the fame of this house shall spread to foreign lands; and this is the beginning of the blessing which shall be poured out upon the heads of my people. Even so. Amen.

Clearly the offering was accepted and the blessings pertaining to the offering were to be primarily poured out in the future. IN the third watch.

What about the SACRIFICE that was to be offered up in the Kirtland Temple?

Yes.

It is a little known fact that an animal blood sacrifice was offered up in the Kirtland Temple. At least this is according to the journal entry of Wandle Mase. Others believe this blood sacrifice will be a future event.

But I digress.

I simply wanted to show how passages of scripture can cryptically embed truths using subtexts that distract the mind from the primary text.

With this realization, lets now review the passages in section 27 which conceal a great secret by using a sub-narrative in the text to distract.

Again, the sub-narrative will be highlighted:

5 Behold, this is wisdom in me; wherefore, marvel not, for the hour cometh that I will drink of the fruit of the vine with you on the earth, and with Moroni, whom I have sent unto you to reveal the Book of Mormon, containing the fulness of my everlasting gospel, to whom I have committed the keys of the record of the stick of Ephraim;

Ok, now lets delete the sub-narrative:

5 Behold, this is wisdom in me; wherefore, marvel not, for the hour cometh that I will drink of the fruit of the vine with you on the earth, to whom I have committed the keys of the record of the stick of Ephraim;

Bingo.

Although it is Moroni that revealed the Book of Mormon containing the fulness of the Gospel. It is Joseph Smith that holds the keys of the record of the Stick of Ephraim!

This is consistent with the other passages in the section which associate each person with a role they have played.

Notice how the holding of the keys of the Stick of Ephraim match up with other passages that identify Joseph as holding the keys to the revelations given to the Gentile Ephraimite Saints:

6 And thou shalt not command him [Joseph Smith] who is at thy head, and at the head of the church;

7 For I have given him the keys of the mysteries, and the revelations which are sealed, until I shall appoint unto them another in his stead. (D&C 28:6-7 See also D&C

Once a person interprets what is being said in those passages, the veiled message in section 27 is totally congruent with all of the other supporting evidence and everything falls into place.

Before we leave this topic, and the notion that the Book of Mormon is the Stick of Ephraim, there is another elephant in the room to take into consideration.

The Book of Mormon Virtually Never Speaks of Ephraim

The Book of Mormon NEVER refers to itself as the Stick or Book of Ephraim, nor does it even appear to imply that the seed of Lehi were from the tribe of Ephraim!

As Joseph Smith pointed out, the Book of Mormon identifies the seed of Lehi as being from Manasseh.

A keyword search of the word Ephraim in the Book of Mormon brings up a grand total of 9 times that the word shows up.

8 of those references simply come from Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon.

The only other reference is to a hill named the “hill Ephraim“. (see Ether 7:9)

It is pretty unremarkable how prolific the term Ephraim is in the Book of Mormon.

There is absolutely no hint of a reference in the Book of Mormon as to why the Book of Mormon would be called the Stick of Ephraim.

As you can see, the Doctrine and Covenants not only contains words with sealed meanings, even the Book itself is cleverly hidden in scripture as the Stick of Ephraim.

In the last episode I mentioned that Joseph Smith withheld the Doctrine and Covenants from the world. I meant to cover that topic in this post but felt I should address the Stick of Ephraim topic.

Is there any evidence to support my claim that Joseph withheld the Doctrine and Covenants from the World?

We will address this issue in the next episode

Continuing on from the last post, regarding some of the observations and speculations made in the series regarding the “man among the gentiles”-

I agree that the “man among the Gentiles” prophecy is very significant and worth pondering and researching for better understanding.

I believe Nephi mentioned this man among the gentiles in the Book of Mormon for an important reason. I think our understanding of prophecy will be enhanced if we know who the man is and when he came across the many waters to the seed of Lehi.

I believe it is possible to know who the man is, and why the Lord inspired Nephi to include him in the prophecies.

Christopher Columbus is usually considered to be the man that Nephi saw in vision among Latter day Saints. However, I agree with the author, Christopher Columbus does have a very disturbing history and he never set foot in North America. He simply does not fit the prophetic narrative and it is very unlikely that he is the man the Nephi saw in vision.

The author suggests that it may be very helpful to understand who Nephi saw if we want to understand the timing of events in the prophecies contained in 1^st Nephi 13-14.. The man in vision possibly does represent a prophetic signpost
to know where to start counting the 400 year prophetic timeline associated with the narrative.

He suggests that the starting point is when the “man among the gentiles” emerges. He claims that the 400 year period ends with the time of “destruction” as related in the 1^st Nephi 13-14 narrative.

I find his speculation to be intriguing and possible if not probable.

The reason I find this timeline scenario intriguing is that it just happens to match a 400 year prophecy in the Old Testament that we shall consider in this post.

While I agree with some of the primary observations and speculations of the author, I disagree that Roger Williams is the man Nephi saw among the gentiles.

In my opinion, Roger Williams cannot possibly be the man that Nephi saw in vision. He simply does not meet the prophetic chronological criteria set forth in the prophecy.

It is odd that the author states that he does not want to debate the likelihood of his candidate Roger Williams when in fact, he is basing much of his entire premise on Roger Williams and the related year of 1630 when Williams emerged, as being the starting point of the prophecy. The author states:

“I realize there are many theories as to the identity of the man shown to Nephi and that cases can be made for each candidate. I’m not interested in arguing the relative merits of the various candidates. In this introduction to Roger Williams, I have made the case that he *could* be the man.. He’s not necessary to the story. He was put there so we would ask questions.”

The problem with this curious stance of not being interested in “arguing the merits of the various candidates” is that his timeline he proposes only holds water if he can document the starting point by identifying the “man among the gentiles“.

He has identified the year 1630 as the starting point of the prophecy and he has identified the emergence Roger Williams in America in that year. He provides Williams emergence as the proof that 1630 is the starting point.

Hence, Roger Williams becomes integral to his hypothesis.
Shortly after stating that Williams is not necessary to the storyline, the author makes the following statement:

“Using Roger Williams’ flight from England as the starting point yields a match to our history and a dire warning to the latter-day gentiles as well as to the covenant people. Time is short..”

“Roger Williams, the “man among the gentiles” was the beginning. He laid the foundation that supported the structure for nearly 400 years. But true to the Nephite pattern, it has been destroyed in the expected time period. All that remains is the sweeping off soon to come. We may yet have a few years of relative stability in which to build a temple, but even that is in terrible jeopardy at this moment. God help us.”

Perhaps the most astounding claim made by the author in his attempt to sensationalize the life of Roger Williams is to make the following declaration:

“The first amendment to the U.S. constitution is the direct result of the thoughts, ideas, and sacrifices of Roger Williams..

..I think it no exaggeration to call Roger Williams the founder of our nation. Seriously.”

Actually, it feels like somewhat of an exaggeration to me.

The author seems to want to have his cake and eat it too. He spends part of the time showing the importance of Roger Williams and the year 1630 and part of the time saying that Roger Williams is not hugely important to the story?!?!?!

Which is it?

As mentioned in the previous post, it appears that the author simply backtracked 400 years from the year 2030 which the author feels is an important prophetic milepost of destruction because of the published globalist agenda.

Once he arrived at the year 1630, he simply looked for the most high profile Christian that emerged in that year.

Having pinpointed the beginning point of the prophetic timeline, Roger Williams seemed to be the most qualified individual so the author picked him the base his 400 year timeline around, and possibly embellished the role he played in the establishment of this nation.

There is nothing wrong with backtracking from an end date to come up with the starting date of a prophecy, and then looking to see if a major event and / or person can validate the starting point. I do it all the time.

The elephant in the room in this entertaining and speculative prophetic storyline which is easy to forget about is that Roger Williams simply came to America too late to be among the first to arrive in this country, per the requirements of the prophecy.

He was clearly not among the first Gentiles to come across the many waters to the land of promise.

He was late to that party.

His brethren of the Mayflower Puritans arrived in America in 1620. Roger Williams did not arrive in the promised land until 1635!

15 years later!

In my opinion, Roger Williams would have to have come over to America with the Mayflower Puritans or at least very close to that period of time in order to be seriously considered as the man that Nephi saw in vision.

Nevertheless, I think the author is onto something about the possibility of a 400 year prophecy
in the 1^st Nephi 13-14 narrative. I suspect that it matches the 400 year prophecy
from the Old Testament that I have blogged about from time to time of the years.

Let us review the prophecy in the Old Testament.

The 400 Year Prophecy of Abraham

In the 15^th chapter of Genesis, our Father Abraham was placed in a trance and shown that his children, would be strangers in a land where they would serve a foreign power and be afflicted for 400 years:

“And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance… But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.” Gen. 15:12-16)

Although this prophecy is usually characterized by Bible scholars as referring to the time that ancient Israel was in bondage, that historical event was only a type and shadow of the literal event that would take place at a later time.

The actual time of ancient Israel’s bondage was 430 years, not 400!

From that it is obvious that ancient Israel was only a shadow fulfillment of the prophecy.

I believe the literal
fulfillment of the above prophecy has reference to latter day Israel and the founding of a Gentile nation on the promised land by the Christian gentiles from England.

Abraham was shown that his posterity would come to a new land and that they would be a stranger in it. After arriving in that land, they would be afflicted for four hundred years.

The cryptic wording of the prophecy also mentions “four generations” which is a term and time frame that the Lord uses several times in modern revelation. According to the revelations Joseph Smith received, it is after four generations that the Lord chastises those that hate him.

I believe the saints of the restoration are the latter-day Israelites and we are the strangers in this land. We are paying taxes to and serving and being afflicted by a secret foreign power. Even a secret combination.

True believers in Christ in America have been in bondage for 400 years, ever since they first came to this country.

The prophecy informs us that at the end of the 400 years, God judges the nation.

I believe this matches the prophetic sequence in 1^st Nephi 13-14 which begins with the man among the Gentiles playing a significant role and providing a starting point. One that leads to the eventual wrath of God and destruction falling upon the great and abominable church.

The prophecy of Abraham possibly provides a second witness to a 400 year timeline given in the Book of Mormon. It enables us to place a designated period of time upon the prophetic narrative in Nephi’s vision.

I believe we have come to the end of the 400 years and I believe our nation is now under God’s judgement.

It is my belief that the timing of the man Nephi saw coming across that many waters most likely takes place either in 1607 with the arrival of Paster John Hunt, or 1620 with the arrival of the Mayflower Puritans and men such as John Carver, William Brewster, and William Bradford.

Those are the two prominent years when Christian Gentiles arrived in America and did profound things relating to the establishment of Christianity in the new world.

Over the years I have mentioned those two events as possibilities that might interrelated to the 400 prophecy of Abraham.

Each of them lead to major catastrophic events in the history of our nation.

In my opinion, it was the arrival of the Puritans on the Mayflower that played the most prominent role in the prophecy about the gentiles given in 1 Nephi 13. Adding 400 years to that date takes us to the beginning of the global conspiratorial genocide that we are currently witnessing.

Interestingly, these Puritans were of the same religious tradition, fervor and integrity as Roger Williams.

If my speculation is correct, the timing of the recent sc*amdemic and the ki*ll sh*ot associated with it that began in about 2020, represents the ending point of the 400 year prophecy and the beginning of JUDGEMENT upon this nation.

It would mean that we have just witnessed a major prophetic signpost beginning in about 2020. That would indicated that we have entered the beginning point of God’s judgement upon the wicked of this nation.

And that would mean that this nation is about to face much greater bondage than we have ever experienced before.

That’s the bad news.

It might also mean that our deliverance is nigh at hand.

That’s the good news.

In a future episode I will address those key dates and key figures a little more but please remember, I am not necessarily stating that the man Nephi saw was one of the Gentiles associated with those two time periods.

There is actually another very prominent player from that time period who is not a Gentiles.

The person I am thinking of was from the seed of Lehi who found himself separated from his brethren, among the Gentiles. He crossed back over the many waters and becomes reunited with his American native brethren at the very period of time that the Mayflower reached the New World. Upon his return, he then plays an incredible role in facilitating the Christian Gentiles who are coming to the New World.

My guess is that you have now figured out who I am talking about.

More on that in the next episode.

For now, I want to reiterate if 1620 is the beginning point of the two prophecies, that would make the year 2020 the completion date and the beginning of JUDGEMENT UPON THIS NATION.

This would suggest that the global conspiracy to commit mass genocide which began in 2020 is the prophetic event that results in DESTRUCTION.

We have been witnessing a remarkable event resulting in the systematic destruction of our free enterprise system, the healthcare system and just about everything else in America and the world as a result of the mass genocide that has begun to take place.

I believe we have been experiencing greater bondage in America associated with the wrath of God and destruction falling upon this nation. This would indicate that the amazing prophecy about the return of Joseph Smith to lead us out of bondage become hugely relevant at this time.

We need to be Led out of Bondage

In section 101, the Lord provides the parable of the redemption of Zion in which he explains how Zion will be redeemed. The Lord resumes talking about the prophecy in section 103.

One of the grand promises in section 103 is that the time would come when Joseph Smith, accompanied by the Lord Himself, would return to lead us, the latter day children of Israel out of bondage!

17 For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham, and ye must needs be led out of bondage by power, and with a stretched-out arm.

18 And as your fathers were led at the first, even so shall the redemption of Zion be.

19 Therefore, let not your hearts faint, for I say not unto you as I said unto your fathers: Mine angel shall go up before you, but not my presence.

20 But I say unto you: Mine angels shall go up before you, and also my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land.

21 Verily, verily I say unto you, that my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., is the man to whom I likened the servant to whom the Lord of the vineyard spake in the parable which I have given unto you.
(Speaking of the parable of the redemption of Zion in section 101)

22 Therefore let my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., say unto the strength of my house, my young men and the middle aged—Gather yourselves together unto the land of Zion, upon the land which I have bought with money that has been consecrated unto me.

23 And let all the churches send up wise men with their moneys, and purchase lands even as I have commanded them.

24 And inasmuch as mine enemies come against you to drive you from my goodly land, which I have consecrated to be the land of Zion, even from your own lands after these testimonies, which ye have brought before me against them, ye shall curse them;

25 And whomsoever ye curse, I will curse, and ye shall avenge me of mine enemies.

26 And my presence shall be with you even in avenging me of mine enemies, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

If we have reached the end of the 400 year period of bondage and if this nation is currently being judged by God, the time for the return of Joseph smith and our Lord is near.

Are you ready or are you going to seek refuge from false prophets?

The return of the God’s deliverer is eminent. It has been prophesied about since ancient times:

There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob (Romans 11:26)

The above passage from Paul in the New Testament is a rephrasing of the following passage from Isaiah in the Old Testament.

19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

20 ¶ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.

Notice that the deliverer/redeemer comes forth right at the time when the enemy is coming into the land like a flood.

If you don’t think the enemy is currently coming into our land, you must be watching the mainstream media which is controlled by the global conspirators. The enemy has been flowing in for some time and the numbers keep increasing. But a huge surge is about to take place.

Liberty

Once again, most Mormons and Christians are completely oblivious to the fact that America has never totally been a land of real LIBERTY in the ultimate sense that is spoken of in 1 Nephi 13. .

The land of liberty mentioned in 1^st Nephi 13 is referring to the eventual establishment of Zion.

Prior to the upcoming establishment of Zion, America has actually been a land of bondage masquerading as a land of freedom.

Secretly, it has been controlled by nefarious powers in the secret chamber.

America has been disguised and promoted as a land of freedom.

The term “hidden darkness” in the book of Mormon might be an appropriate descriptive to refer to the bizarre situation we find ourselves in.

5 Wherefore, Joseph truly saw our day. And he obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins the Lord God would raise up a righteous branch unto the house of Israel; not the Messiah, but a branch which was to be broken off, nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord

that the Messiah should be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the spirit of power, unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light—yea, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity unto freedom. (2^nd Nephi 3:5)

Study the above passage.

Clearly, we are living in the latter days.

Is there anyone reading this blog post that actually believes that the Messiah has been manifest to us in the spirit of power resulting in bringing us out of darkness into light?

Are any of you deluded enough to think that we have been brought out of “hidden darkness” and out of captivity unto freedom?

The term Hidden darkness perfectly describers Mormons that walk around holding the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants both of which clearly document and testify against the darkness and apostacy they are living in. Yet they proudly proclaim membership in the only true church and claiming that all is well in Zion.

However, “hidden darkness” in the above passage has a broader political connotation as well.

It is also an appropriate term to describe people who proudly put their hand over their heart and repeat the pledge of allegiance, thinking they live in a free country, while in fact they are in bondage to a foreign power.

But I digress, which I have been known to do from time to time.

Please notice on the graphic how the 1^st Nephi 13-14 narrative begins with the man among the gentiles going to the seed of Lehi in the promised land and ends with the wrath of God being poured out upon the wicked Gentile nation living in the promised land.

It ends in destruction upon the wicked.

Notice also how Abraham sees God’s people enter into a land not previously theirs and after 400 years judgment falls upon that nation.

The cryptic wording of the “trance” that Abraham had suggests the significance of the last four generations of the 400 year period, which is the period of time from the rejection of the fulness of the gospel by the believing gentiles, to the time when the wrath of God begins to fall upon the wicked gentile nation.

Hence God refers to the upcoming vengeance upon the third and forth generation of those who hate him multiple times in the revelations he gave to Joseph Smith, including sections 103 and 105.

30 And after these lands are purchased, I will hold the armies of Israel guiltless in taking possession of their own lands, which they have previously purchased with their moneys, and of throwing down the towers of mine enemies that may be upon them, and scattering their watchmen, and avenging me of mine enemies unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

I believe the man that Nephi saw in vision does indeed represent the beginning of a prophetic sequence that we are living in and I think it is the same 400 timeline shown to Father Abraham.

“And if any man shall administer poison unto them
it shall not hurt them; And the poison of a serpent
shall not have power to harm them. D&C 84

Section 84 reveals great secrets about how the servants and their associates will return to the earth and go into all the world baptizing those that believe. Those that receive the gospel message will have signs follow them.

Among the signs that will follow them is that they will not be harmed by poison that is administered to them.. closely associated with the administration of that poison, is how the poison of a serpent will not have power to harm them..

Does it seem somewhat odd to you that serpent venom should be a concern to anyone in this modern era? After all, God has all time, past present and future before his eyes.
It Just doesn’t seem like snake bites are a big enough issue to have such a high profile in prophecy does it?

Recently a reader of mine pointed me to a blog series that a person from an LDS fringe group was writing which really caught my imagination.

The author of the series noted that Christopher Columbus is usually credited in LDS theology as being the “man among the gentiles” that Nephi speaks of in the narrative”

12 And I looked and beheld a man among the Gentiles, who was separated from the seed of my brethren by the many waters; and I beheld the Spirit of God, that it came down and wrought upon the man; and he went forth upon the many waters, even unto the seed of my brethren, who were in the promised land.

The author then provided his rationale as to why Christopher Columbus could not possibly be the man that Nephi saw.

I agree with him. It is very unlikely that Christopher Columbus is the man that Nephi saw in vision.

In the article, the author gives a glowing biography and resume of Roger Williams and speculates that he is the one that Nephi saw in vision.

According to the author, the reason Nephi mentions the man among the gentiles, is to identify the beginning point of a prophetic 400 year Book of Mormon timeline.

if Roger Williams is the man among the gentiles, then that gives us a year to begin with and a year to end with.

The whole foundation of the timeline premise of the article seems to rest on the emergence of Roger Williams in America in 1630 as the man that Nephi saw in vision. Hence, according to the author, the year 1630 begins a 400 year prophetic Book of Mormon timeline ending in 2030.

In the article the author says:

“I’m sure you’ve already done the math—400 years from the Roger Williams signpost will be the year 2030.”

Regarding that statement, one of the commenters made the following comment:

“I’m surprised… you didn’t mention Agenda 2030, as in the Great Reset, that is being crammed down our throats, like it or not. The Gadianton Agenda 2030 fits the timeline you’ve mentioned to a T! And you know the oath-taking Gadiantons didn’t just randomly pick that year!”

The author agreed with him:

“Well put, Underdog2. Alarming on all levels if we have eyes to see.

Although we need “eyes to see” the 400 year timeline that began with Roger Williams in 1630, the author seems to waffle back and forth in the article as to how important the sign post of Roger Williams really is.

In the series the author seems to waffle back and forth as to how important Roger Williams is in substantiating his timeline.

“I realize there are many theories as to the identity of the man shown to Nephi and that cases can be made for each candidate. I’m not interested in arguing the relative merits of the various candidates. In this introduction to Roger Williams, I have made the case that he *could* be the man.. He’s not necessary to the story. He was put there so we would ask questions.”

It was very confusing to me how he kept waffling back and forth about the importance of Roger Williams in his timeline scenario. After all, the emergence of Roger Williams in 1630 appeared to be the only concrete evidence he provides for that year being the beginning point of the 400 year prophecy.

It finally occurred to me that the author probably began with the significance of agenda 2030 and then reverse engineered the beginning date based on 400 years. He then tried to find a high profile gentile that emerged on the scene in 1630, that might fit the description of the man among the gentiles.

I have no problem with that method of prophetic speculation. I do it all the time. I simply don’t think Williams fits the prophetic profile.

It appeared to me in reading the first 5 episodes of his unfinished series that one of his objectives was to create a sense of urgency about funding a temple for the Lord to come to in the latter days.

One of the takeaways from the series (which is not yet finished) is that the year 2030 is a huge mile post on the agenda for the globalists to bring the masses into a time of destruction and therefore it may interrelate to a 400 year timeline that is spoken of in the Book of Mormon, which began with Nephi’s vision of the man among the Gentiles and leads to a time of destruction, possibly 400 years later.

I am afraid the integration of Roger Williams as the man that Nephi saw is where he lost me.

In my opinion, Roger Williams is just as unlikely to be the one the Nephi was speaking about as Christopher Columbus and here is why-

The prophetic text suggests a very important chronological progression into which Roger Williams simply does not fit. Please note the three-part chronological progression:

First
the man among the gentiles comes across the many waters to the seed of Nephi’s brethren

Secondly, AFTER the man among the gentiles comes across the many waters,
other Gentiles follow after this man that crossed the many waters

Thirdly, “many gentiles” follow after the “other gentiles” cross the waters to the promised land.

Roger Williams was clearly not the first nor was he even among the first Gentiles to come across the many waters to the land of promise.

He was late to that party.

His brethren of the Puritans arrived in America long before Roger Williams. They arrived in the Mayflower in 1620. Roger Williams did not arrive in America until 1635!

At best, Roger Williams would have been classified as being among the “other gentiles” that followed AFTER the man among the gentiles came across the great waters. But he was more likely among the third group, the “many Gentiles” to cross the many waters.

Please review the text and see if you don’t arrive at the same conclusion:

12 And I looked and beheld a man among the Gentiles, who was separated from the seed of my brethren by the many waters; and I beheld the Spirit of God, that it came down and wrought upon the man; and he went forth upon the many waters, even unto the seed of my brethren, who were in the promised land.

13 And it came to pass that I beheld the Spirit of God, that it wrought upon other Gentiles; and they went forth out of captivity, upon the many waters.

14 And it came to pass that I beheld many multitudes of the Gentiles upon the land of promise; and I beheld the wrath of God, that it was upon the seed of my brethren; and they were scattered before the Gentiles and were smitten.

The man that Nephi saw in vision was among the very first Gentiles to come to America.

This creates a significant problem for the author’s candidate, Roger Williams.

The reason I bring thing these issues up is not to deconstruct the entire series and show what I agree with and disagree with. The purpose of this post is to highlight three things pointed out by the author that I think are incredibly significant and profound.

To this end, I congratulate and thank the author for bringing up some profound questions and observations that are in his series.

Here are the things he brought up that I really enjoyed and think are profound.

He highlights the prophecy about the “man among the gentiles” and asks the following questions:

“Why was he shown to Nephi and why did Nephi tell us about him?

Why does it matter that we understand who Nephi saw?

And how might this all relate to the topic of destruction?”

Those are profound questions!

Years ago I read one of the early sermons of Orson Pratt and he stated something to the effect that there are not any things in the written word of God that cannot be understood by God’s people if they are humble and seeking the truth.

It appears that all things in the written word of God will be understood as the light shines forth in greater abundance.

I believe that.

God did not inspire Nephi to see a man in vision and then speak about this man that he saw, for no reason at all. It must be important if Nephi told us about it! It must be possible to identify who that man was and why he is important.

Because of these questions that were asked in the series, I became focused on the “man among the Gentiles” in a way that I have never been focused on that prophecy before.

I now think I may know who that man is and I actually don’t even think the man among the gentiles was a gentile!

Of course this is pure speculation on my part, but I think you might find it interesting.

Lastly, the author speculates that the man among the Gentiles must be important because the event represents a prophetic mile post that begins a string of events that lead up to the destruction of the wicked.

Hence, understanding who the prominent figure is and when he came on the seen in the string of prophecies contained in 1^st Nephi 13-14 gives of prophetic context which enables us to identify when the culminating event of destruction takes place.

I admit that I am excited about this timeline in 1 Nephi 13-14 because it provides a second witness for the 400 year timeline that I have previously blogged about.

The remarkable thing is that the timeline in 1^st Nephi 13-14 appears to match up perfectly with the 400 year prophecy in the Old Testament.

Part 6 of Frankly…

In a previous episode I had the audacity to suggest that the Book of Mormon prophetically mentions the coming forth and incredible role of the Doctrine and Covenants. I showed passages from the book of Ether that referred to the words of Christ that would come forth in the last days.

I believe these records first came forth before the Gentiles collectively repented of their iniquity. Then when these records come forth again, the second time, in the third watch, and the servants of the Lord expound upon them in power, they appear to be instrumental in helping a remnant of the believing Gentiles to repent. Following that, they will be taken to the seed of Lehi and are instrumental in restoring them to a knowledge of their fathers.

I also showed how 2^nd Nephi 29 makes reference to the revelations that Joseph Smith received in conjunction with the record of the Nephites (Book of Mormon) and the record of the Jews (Bible)

I now want to suggest another prophetic narrative from the Book of Mormon that also very possibly identifies Doctrine and Covenants and the role they play as the “last records” that establish the truth of the first:

38 And it came to pass that I beheld the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the book of the Lamb of God, (the Bible) which had proceeded forth from the mouth of the Jew, that it came forth from the Gentiles unto the remnant of the seed of my brethren.

39 And after it had come forth unto them I beheld other books, (including the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants) which came forth by the power of the Lamb, from the Gentiles unto them, (the seed of my brethren) unto the convincing of the Gentiles and the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the Jews who were scattered upon all the face of the earth, that the records of the prophets and of the twelve apostles of the Lamb are true.

40 And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records, (The Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon) which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved.

41 [The Doctrine and Covenants ) must come according to the words which shall be established by the mouth of the Lamb; and (additionally) the words of the Lamb shall be made known in the records of thy seed, as well as in the records of the twelve apostles of the Lamb; wherefore they both shall be established in one; for there is one God and one Shepherd over all the earth.

All three records are mentioned in the above prophecy, however, it is the LAST records, primarily the revelations that Joseph Smith received, that will “ESTABLISH THE TRUTH OF THE FIRST“.

This series was inspired by an email I got from a new friend and blog reader in Canada.

The truth is that I had some topics I had been thinking about addressing for months, but did not know exactly when to introduce them.. or even the best and most compelling way on how
to introduce them.

When he contacted me and asked some questions and shared some of his conversations that he had been having with the late John Pratt, I realized that the heavens had presented to me an opportunity. I would simply take excerpts of our conversations and use them to begin and create a series that would address these topics.

I want to thank my Canada friend for unknowingly teeing things up for me to take a big swing at.

One of the topics that had been on my mind was the importance of the revelations Joseph Smith brought forth relative to the beginning of the Marvelous Work that I believe is in the process of opening up right now. So I have addressed that topic in this series.

Another related topic has to do with the relationship between the WORD OF GOD cryptically spoken of in sections 5 and 6 and the WORD OF GOD cryptically spoken of in chapters 3 and 4 of the Book of Ether. So I have addressed that topic in this series.

A third topic that had been on my mind, is the concept that the revelations received by Joseph Smith and canonized in the Book of Commandments and the Doctrine and Covenants contained mysteries of the kingdom, the meaning of which have largely been sealed up and hidden from the understanding of that generation.

In some cases these mysteries were hidden from the world by withholding the Doctrine and Covenants from the world.

In our next episode we shall show historical documentation to show that Joseph Smith advised the missionaries to not say anything to investigators about the Doctrine and Covenants, the vision known contained is section 76, and the doctrine of the gathering.

With regard to those who had joined the restored church, Joseph was commanded by the Lord to not expound on the mysteries contained in the Doctrine and Covenants at that time. It would not be until the marvelous work begins that the first laborers of the last kingdom would return to reveal these secrets.

Another topic that my friend also placed on a big fat tee for me to take a whack at, has to do with the prophetic Vision of the Brother of Jared narrative, in the Book of Ether, relative to the prophetic sealed book narrative in 2^nd Nephi 27.

That topic will be addressed in this episode.

The Meaning behind Some Words in the
Doctrine and Covenants have been Sealed

I have now demonstrated from the prophetic declarations of God in His holy word, as well as from practical demonstration from scripture that the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants have sealed words in them. The hidden meaning in these words reveal mysteries about the
kingdom of God, the
gathering, and the
plan of salvation.

These mysteries
have largely remained hidden from the worldly as well as the believing gentiles that the revelations were originally directed to.

However some of these mysteries are beginning to be unfolded in the eyes of those that give heed God’s word.

I find it remarkable that the unsealing of some of these mysteries is taking place prior to the start of the marvelous work.

I believe this is a sign that the marvelous work and a wonder spoken of by Isaiah is about to manifest.

As previously noted in this series, the revelations that Joseph Smith brought forth repeated contained the command to give heed to God’s word BEFORE the marvelous work begins:

1 A great and marvelous work is about to come forth unto the children of men.

2 Behold, I am God; give heed unto my word, which is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of both joints and marrow; therefore give heed unto my words.

The purpose of this series is to shine a spotlight on the revelations that Joseph brought forth, show how significant they are, and to give special heed to them just before the great and marvelous work begins.

A Sealed Book Containing Sealed Words

In a earlier episode I noted that the Book of Mormon actually prophesied of and testified of the coming forth of God’s word contained in the Doctrine and Covenants.

I want to now use this episode to get you pondering the mysterious prophecy in the Book of Mormon about a sealed book containing “words that are sealed“.

The majority of the prophecy is found in 2^nd Nephi 27, (and in JST Isaiah 29).
