the memoirs of 02s72
2 years
It's been two years since we graduated. Grew older, more sober, more separated our ways.
It was thursday evening about 9p.m, after my water polo training at noon, took a walk around the school. Things changed, no more HCJC, no more hcjc pe kit, so what we have is a collector's item yah! Thinking of auctioning on E Bay? Alighted at the bus stop near the TCHS swimming pool. Stroll around the canteen, still remember the days when the guys would have our recess there.Mirage of Fulun n weekiat have a religious discourse would appear n disappear.ha......Walked through the field, still vividly recalled the days after water polo training when my polo team would walk all the way to coro... Ha... They would like stone around look at girls n my poor stomach would groan, like a walking zombie, i would be half asleep after a long day. Dread mondays, 3 hours of practical followed by training.
Went by the new classrooms, remembered the first day when i met Mrs thum, lied to her i was from Bing Yi Secondary. I will always remember Thum, her unique frown as she says, Why Robin...
Sat at the class bench, our class photo is no longer there but the scorings that i have made under the table r still there, still remembered the first session with Mr Choe, vanessa n angelene whispered to me to tell John to zip up his open fly! Ha... Tsk... Haihan sat at the back of the class, the rgs girls sat at the front! Still remembered the handphone incident, i was blamed for using the hp. Ha... if that were to happen to me today, i am pretty sure i would simply smile n ignore any teacher around. Lost the vigor to rebuke... Feels so old. How about that incident in the LT when i apologised sarcastically to the bio teacher, i clearly remembered it was a proteins lecture.
Chinese new year celebration always ended with yusheng, oh our success in selling coconuts. Haihan's konnyaku jelly? Greg's Kui Pei Te. Guess i spelt that incorrectly ... We earned like 220 bucks.. pretty good eh. Sirui's finger n mine got cut in the process of cutting those coconuts. But guess we had fun... :)
My happiest moment in hcjc was definitely the water polo finals. I mean its the best result throughout the school nationals. A dream came true, yup yup made a lot of crazy shots. But u know what, I am really glad the class went down. Yeah yeah, everyone went down for different reasons, jiaying n van perhaps went there just to check out Karl chandra froom ACJC , but well everyone was there so... Can say that i shared my happiest moment with the class. Well, almost everyone went right? i guess. THRASH THE CLOWN N SNATCH THE CROWN. Still remember that was the banner for the water polo finals...
well. its chinese new year again, will be going overseas, sigh really want to see the chinese new year celebrations. Guess i will have to give it a miss. Time flies... Hope all u guys will go pay a visit, perhaps recall the memories that hwa chong had left with u. Good or bad treasure them... Makes u feel young again. Take care , wishing all you people out there a successful n smashing year ahead.
Blessings...

Think CAi Lao Shi is damn disapointed with him, anyway i guess she gave up on him long ago. Ha... no offence, Hey Char think should take up some responsibilty as a Style doctor. Go ask greg to cut his long hair la, Y he thinks he looks like some Korean actor! HA.......yucks
There's still Taiwan and one more SOC test to go. Taiwan from next Thursday onwards for 3 whole weeks oh dearie me. Jie and me are absolutely going to flip by the halfway mark.. 2 months to commissioning, yet it seems very very far.

Persistence
Ship is in yard for repair now. So i am at home slacking now hahah. Anyway this what happened.
10pm(15th): Emergency alarm rings..."For excercise, for excercise, for excercise..." It's a practise for what should happen if there is a need to escape via the liferaft
12midnight(16th): I went to sleep.
1am: Emergency alarm rings again. Some people (me) thinks it is another stupid excercise. Most just walked dazed to the hangar. Then we learnt the truth. Too lazy to write happen la. In short, incoming ship alpha mike at 90 degress to RSS Persistence. Persistence quickly reverse its engine. Hit on the side of ship at inclined angle. Alpha mike then skid off side of persistence to hit another oil ship resulting in it bursting into flames. The oil ship then suffer a total blackout, and many people abandoned the ship. Fire was causing the ship to glow orange red (from what i see). Help signal radioed over. Persistence went to search for the ship for rescue but cannot find. RSS Daring join in the search. Everyone was gathered in the breifing room in case there should be a need to evacuate the ship. Chef prepared hot drinks. Divers activated to bring rescued people to boat. Ship prepared to take in teh mass casualty, but fortunately they went over to another ship for rescue. Ship only suffered some big dents and a hole at the side. Nothing mush else happened.
recent happenings
at the risk of sounding like a mugger..... which i am most assuredly not... yet.
i honestly dun think medicine so far has been A level stuff, * kicks sirui*. it was more of building up on our basic knowledge and then doing further readings on our own.....
our anat prof, also my tutor ( **fortunately), has a habit of saying, " this topic is too complex for me to explain during lecture, please go back and read on your own." haha. he says this every 15 mins. lots of new things to learn which are rather fun, embryology for eg.
anat can be quite mentally taxing, cause its a lot of memorising, without very much understanding.
learning cell signalling stuff, which fortunately was covered in bits and pieces in bio s endocine. and more complex cytology, which dear mrs foo had covered in most parts already.
the pace is building up quick, unlike the picture sirui painted, think we will buried in our books soon.
and unlike wat sirui said, i received intelligence that mr. ng has been mugging in the med library till evenings with members of his og...... so much for being slack huh?
the med library can be quite scary, sometimes its so quiet u can hear a pin drop, and when u make just a small noise, everyone turns around and looks at u.
dear songda.... glad to hear u are having fun!!! make sure u bring back gifts for us.... esp all those wulu wulu places u go that we never even heard of.
weijie, have fun in brunei jungle..... at night can do star gazing, also got nice tropical trees and animals, u can have a practical lesson on biodiversity if u get bored, then tell haihan all the nice things he missed out on. haha.
gotta go, tere and i are going the the faculty dinner and dance tonite, its mafia themed, even the profs are coming dressed as mafia ( not sure how though.). TATA.
Hi =)
Hi. How are u guys doing at Uni? Hope u all having a great time. =)
i juz came back from sailing. 6 days trips to penang.
Will be sailing away next week again but this time for 2 months to many ports.
Ya, so most of time i not in S'pore. Those in Uni good luck for your studies. Sirui u should consider going to navy as MO for NSF, cos it's real good life there. If u go sailing, the chef will serve u food spread nicely on the table. U r like the king. And the ship crews are very funny people. They like to throw waste food (prawn shells, bones...) into the sea and shout out "Give Hai Long Wang (dragon king of the sea) eat" everytime they throw. Retarded but funny. And when u come back to Spore the MPs will come with their dogs to search for illegal items. And the dogs aren't those tt u see in the movies, big and menacing. But rather small brown and white tt looks exactly like the Hush Puppies dogs. Real adorable! Many other exciting n funny things la. Anyway, for those still in NS, have a nice time slacking. 8P
slacker?
sirui likes to think everyone besides himself is slacking............ haha. dear haihai and jiejie, chuan tai and sam tay is at signals too!!!!
things over at my side are pretty interesting and would be fun, if it wasnt mentally exhausting. there is one prof sam tay was says the same sentence every few minutes :" this topic is too complex to be explained during lecture, please go and read up...." puke blood......
first prosection is scheduled for tomorrow, a bit nervous really, even though the cadaver is already prepared properly and all, the thought that the cadaver used to be some unfortunate neglected old folk unclaimed after demise is really a little sad. they actually keep the unclaimed bodies for up to a year in a room in the anat hall in tanks of formaldehyde in case relatives of the deceased actually comes looking for some long forgotten aunt or uncle. not that i think they can recognise them after one year of soaking in formaldehyde.
hope everyone is having fun!
Combat Engineer
Yup, this year's combat engineer batch is huge! I think there may be more people in engineers now than in infantry.. And heyy, we're not slackers.. Without signals, nothing would function in the Army lor hee.. Have a good weekend all!
Postings
Haha Weijie and me have been posted to Signals! :) Heh 23 weeks in Pro Term together, brudder.. Looking forward to that!
And in the meantime, take care everyone! :)
hello!
dear 72s, how have all of you been, saw many familiar faces at rag day on sat!
school starting tomorrow! wish everyone who is starting school the best of luck in the coming academic year.
i went back hcjc to do some coaching n so i dropped by the staff room. There stood miss ong she asked me about the blog. I replied what blog?! Apparently she knows that we have a blog for quite some time... *For ur info* So she was asking how true her name acronym was? oops...
went NUS today the matriculation fair n toured around the campus. Its pretty interesting there are CCAs like the Sikh Club n Religious Clubs. I really pity the sikh club cos no one patronises the booth. Oh my the concept of uni is really weird to me. Normally, schools are always associated with uniforms but... Then there were many indians in engineering fac, i felt i was in Little India. The buildings really looked dilapidated on the outside except the LAW fac Library. Back to the matric fair, the were students quite a few that put on heavy make up, especially at the billard club CCA counter. Ha I was a bit overwhelmed when they kept pestering me to join ha... Me still in NS ! Thats y i cant think it s school u know, the thought of school is always no this no that... but now i am enlightened! ha ...
saw some guys from med fac... good luck, many of them are supper muggers from ri n they are super geeks...ha, Arts and Soci offers a better variety n its more happening though. Well, hope everyone is doing fine, yup byezzzzz.
medicamp
u can imagine everyone's faces when sirui had to read the letter out loud during campfire........ greg was into his hokkien cheers again, very much like our J1 orientation.
school starts tomorrow........... where did the 7 months run to.................?
my new bloggie
dear classmates, i set up my new blog at
www.pinkcoralbluesea.blogspot.com
feel free to tag!
haha. sirui as usual all-critising. guess i should blogg at this moment to answer sirui.. =P
First of all wanna say sirui, u really adorned this blog with lots of entries and interesting stuff, together with few other faithful individuals. It's sustained e life of the blog. Thank you guys. Well done. ^_^
then i should answer sirui's point on e ISO thingy. It's juz we're happy as a church tat management of services in our church has been ISO certified, and we juz wanna rejoice and give God praise for it. The article is juz to share the good news with others. Tat's all.
Anyway, a little update on my own life. Me a clerk in the SAF camp now. Working in the S1 branch they call, basically admin job. Pretty busy and intensive becoz of an upcoming admin check called PATS. It's contributes to a unit's eligibility for best unit so it kinda brings stress. Nonetheless, thank God my unit has pretty nice superiors and mates. My chief clerk, boss of my branch, protects her clerks lyk a hen. In camps where CSM(company seargent majors) continually shoots and whacks men(that's wad they refer to rankless pple lyk me.), my chief acts as a fiercesome hen pecking the CSM whenever he does so. Remember there was a time he tried to come up and suggest more army duties for my branch pple, then my chief told him off, saying tat he assumes tat we're very free when we've lots of work to attend to. Feels pretty good to know i'm under good wings. =)
I guess u guyz wonder wad kinda admin jobs we hav in army, basically it's everything. from collecting of ic to recording of their leaves, from monitoring their army courses to ensuring their blissful ORD, everything the army guyz do in my unit, my branch gotta monitor and deal with the necessary admin stuff. So it's pretty heavy. Thank God, my upperstudy and mates cooperate and work together well. We cover each other as much as we can and we'll usually stay back late together juz to help one another out even if we've finished our jobs. Though times tension and stress kicks in, but thankfully there's always crappy and relax sessions we share tat brings relief to all.
Most dread stay in life and prefer stay out, but personally i think both has pros and cons. And for me staying in has become a fixed case for my 2 yrs army life. I thank God tat i've learn to enjoy it in ways. Staying in rips me of flexible time, but also create more time for me to spend life with unit mates. Some of them enjoyable, and some are not. For my unit, the most 'unenjoyable' mate is an adorable mate. He's an average looking man with a passion to sing. He doesn't croak but his over-zealous and confidence in his voice has led him to paticipation of SIngapore Idol. EVentually he didn't get in and my unit mates used it as a joke to tease him. He's abit blur at times, making stupid remarks or actions which led him to be the dartboard of amusement. He's always e one getting teased and mocked for anything, and the good part is he's in some ways enjoying the attention. None of the teasings are outta ill-intensions, thus it ends up usually a fun time where every1 hav a piece of teasing him.
2 yrs in army is really not a short time. imagine our whole JC life converted into military living. However, it'll be filled with memories, both good and bad. Whatever it is, we make the best outta it and we'll hav no regrets. (sounds lyk william hung huh?=
P)
To all uni students, all the best in ur universities. It's a new, more exciting phase of study life. To all army personals, hang tough and stay Garang. And finally to all S72 clazzmates, stay cheery and have a blessed life.
Take care and see ya all around. God bless.
i am returning for college day, who else?
HA, sirui, before u start making fun of other ppl, make sure u cover your own tracks. i dunno since when the 'i' in your name stood for irresistable.........

meanwhile, take care! :)
everyday is a new day.
Dear ppl, i was clearing up my com when i came across all our old class photos.
seems like ages ago when we left Hwa Chong. all of us in that mud coloured uniform and obvious flaunting of school rules, eg: extra earrings, socks, flapping hanging out shirts, etc.
when university applications were finally finalised on monday, i suddenly had this weird feeling, that ' this was it'. the finality that ought to have hit when we finished school finally came rushing over me. now all of us will have to leave a portion of our lives behind and step into a new phase, to most of us, maybe even a totally new world and environment.
i tried to reflect what 72 meant to me the last 2 years. like to thank everyone for the constant campanionship in HC.
still remember when we were all in our sec sch uniforms, the first day of orientation when we sat in a circle and had some imposters lurking in our midst. eg: toad and justin. us winning the best flag award. haha. and our hokkien cheer. realised how much all of us have grown since then, think we ought to be proud of ourselves.
after the honeymoon 3 months was over, it was constant mugging, cca, getting horrifying tests results back, topping S7 from the bottom and having every teacher sigh when they walk into class.
our horrifying looking watermelon lantern for MAF hanging over the railings, and the dumb look our seniors gave when they saw it, even remembering one of them saying that they hope it doesnt kill anyone if it falls. of course, our dear haihan's constant harassment from... ahem C**E was also one of the highlights of our J1 year. and not to forget, robin slamming mr ang during student forum.
then somehow all of us sailed into year 2, and then we thought, yucks ... the A levels. the whole year came like a blur, to most of us i think. it was CCA, competitions, test, test, prelims, and then more tests. some of the funnier events of the year were stuff like robin trying to matchmake char... ( of all ppl, robin), hsien and boys constantly chasing after her, really funny watching her try to beat all of them off. of course the constant mugging in libraries, class benches, study room. passing sweets around in the LT. mrs tham's face when we won the design pract competition, and the rest of s7 smirking in disbelief.
glad we proved them all wrong when our a level results came out. finally we topped s7 for bio. all the teachers seemed to be constantly criticising us, to be honest. i suspect it is cause c**e always badmouth us in the staffroom? but i hoped we proved them wrong in the end, i know our class had the most substance in S7. somehow in the end, we will always do well.
would like to wish everyone . BON VOYAGE. hope that whereever your paths may lead, that u will always look back to remember the happy times we had together in HC.
yoz. did ppl receive the sms from hsien? thinking of having class gathering on june 5! how many ppl are game?
heyz ppl... oh wow i haven't written here for such a long time, and basically this is just to tell everyone and especially reassure sirui that i'm still alive. but but but i must add, barely... ocs is hothousing all the psc and safos scholars in my wing and it's a known fact that the intensive, hectic, high-standard activities that we're undergoing right now are to test out these scholars. and then there are those who have been thrown in by accident, like me the a*star scholar. gee... all in all, i'm surviving, barely, but if this goes on for another few months, i'll be drained and dead by then. heh... :p
and robin seems a little bit harangued and obsessed with the idea of who i'm (and weijie and sirui) asking to the commissioner's ball. heh, what's up manz? -grins-
robin goh, u still havent said what u are going to mcgill for..... and as for the ppl in OCS, i think we ought to start placing bets now, havent been betting for so long.
anyone who is in team C. Ha he was my personal doctor.
Anyway just curious to know i heard from my uncle that FOR THOSE IN OCS .
You guys have this commission ball where everyone must get a DATE!
YEah, its interesting to know who HAIHAN WEEKIAT AND ESPECIALLY SIRUI WILL ASK!
HA... till then.
my medicine interview.
not to comfort sirui, but honestly, my interview suck more than yours. i think i will become the joke of medical faculty interviews for years to come.
my first interview went fine, i think the interviewers brought out the heavy guns in the first round, cause i started the conversation talking abt my stint at the Down syndrome congress. then they started asking me questions along that line of thought, asked me abt antenatal diagnosis, and that went on to the ethics behind stem cell research and the theory of plasticity and then abt childcare..... dunno how the conversation became, how am i suppose to be a good mother and a doctor at the same time. my goodness. i think i managed to ward off most of the bullets well enough, thanks to bio s-paper, owe mrs foo and ms ong a treat. but my 2nd interview was a nightmare....... I had to consiously plastered a smile on my face and curb my tongue from sproutting rude retorts.
there was this surgeon, who are rather rude from beginning to end. i had to bring my violin along, cause i had lessons after and i didnt want to skip, no time to go home to get also. that surgeon gloated me into playing, even though i tried to explain that i only had a few lessons, just started learning. he was like' if u think u can play well and score points, then u might as well play, if u think u will play so badly that we will deduct marks, then forget abt it. so? are u going to play or not?' I had to give this big idiot smile, like the smiley face u see on msn emoticon and say" if u dun mind listening to wrong tempo and lousy intonation, i dun mind performing.' first time in a long time, i was cornered into doing something that i very did not want to do. of course i played horribly and 2 notes off.
that was just the beginning. after that he went on interrogating me on my grades. he made it sound like a sin to get 4 As. and he asked me when was the last time i got an F and what i thought abt it. i told him i got an O for physics in J1 and i didnt think it was a big deal, he nearly fell off his chair. and i went on abt how i didnt think grades were important, it was merely a lousy gauge of a person academic abilities during an exam. what was more important was the entire learning process. think he didnt sound convinced. i am probably one of the few interviewees who didnt think much abt failing a paper. haha.
just before i left the room, he started insulting my suzuki violin again. i nicely asked him what violin he played, he told me a hand-made china one, i suggested he might want to upgrade to a german one instead and left the room b4 he can say more, what a nightmare.
robin, what are u going to mcgill to study? havent heard u talk abt it b4..... not that i can remember.......
hai.....
Failure in life as an essay title. Ha i think i have lots of experiences in that!
Ha sirui you should be happy that you have a bunk mate who is a pain in the neck. Ha... life is interesting liddat wat. At least u learn how to tolerate him. I had my life lesson on that during secondary and JC days, now its your turn. Well, u really dunno knoe what life is like not being in army. Morning is trainning afternoon is sleeping and i just woke up and later i am giving a young kid tuition then train. Talking about tuition, i got 2 kids in katong. They fetch me to their house from kallang mart station. Pay is 8 hours 200 bucks, each lesson is 2 hours and i give each kid 2 lessons a week. You do the math! Ha yuying if u think you got a good deal of 200 bucks for 8 hours, i got a bettter one , the parents were like asking me to use their jacuzzi, spa and play tennis with their son ! Rich people!
Sigh its boring to the core and my life is gonna be this slack for the next two years. Asian games in september in Dubai but thats like only a week cos singapore gonna lose at the very first round! Argh its how boring before i go study in canada. McGill Uni. Cant wait to study there, hope i get to see Kent's farm of Smallville. Maybe get to meet Kristen Kreuk or LEx luther
who lives in a castle. Go horse riding or fishing during the weekends. Sigh 2 yrs later.
Its crazy... i have finished the whole of campbell. Am going to buy textbooks from clarence our senior ! Life is super slack so you should be happy that u have some excitement , sirui. At least u feel angry or sad! Haihan might feel sad i suppose but i don feel anything! Hey my uncle is the BG of SAFTI 1st division commandant. Some short guy, seen him around?
Since i am so slack i am gonna do hospital attachment at Changi General Hospital ! In June. Dermatology department. For a month then alternate weeks.
To everyone out there enjoy yourself and take care, god bless.
