As people were walking back from the end-of-trek-celebratory-dinner, a thunderstorm arrived.
It passed very slowly and 'stood' over our part of the island most of the night...
... and our last swim was before breakfast *burrows under blankets*

( we could still see lightning over the main island when we got in the water )

This day we are going to the North of the Maddalena Archipelago, where "The water here could be described as closely resembling a swimming pool as the sea is enclosed on most sides by the three islands"
The islands being Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria.
And yes, the water...

... is 15m / 45 ft deep here.
( We're doing island hopping )

The main crossing! One of the trip's highlights!

What the travel intinerary neglects to mention:

( Swimming before getting out of bed, really :/ )

It’s time to travel east to Isola Caprera - home of the General and politician Giuseppe Garibaldi. From here, we enjoy a stunning coastal swim (unnamed bays and beaches in the morning). Following lunch, we take a short walk to Batterie di Punta Rossa where you can explore the barracks and gun emplacements of this ancient fort. The afternoon is given over to a crossing and a full circumnavigation swim of Isola del Porco.

( We is actually swimming in open water from the boat! )

This time of the year, my pools are closed.
(did I tell you about my odyssee in trying to find water to train in in September?)
So I figure I've gotta do something else to move a bit

Yes, I used to play pen-and-paper roleplaying games (very much miss that... but at my age I count myself lucky when I manage to phone a friend every other week, nevermind meeting up with several people...)
So, I didn't manage a 'daily workout challange', but I'm working on it!

I'm level 10 today!

So, the plan was:
"We meet for a short walk to the sparkling waters of Punte Tegge for an acclimatisation swim, an optional technique advice & video session, focusing on open water technique and videoing your stroke both above and below water. This will then be reviewed later in the evening over drinks. After lunch and a chance to relax, we set off on an enchanting coastal swim from the tranquil bay of Cala Francese to Punte Tegge."
But... see prev. entry and the weather forecast...
This was the "tranquil bay of Cala Francese" on Sunday morning:

... I took the ferry to the main island of the archipelago, La Maddalena, to spend the night at another campground.
Found out it's run by Germans (or at least German-speakers) that are very unfriendly, as are the people working there, but...
location location location

(it was so bad, they gave me a 10% off voucher for the restaurant, but I was not able to aquire food or drink there)
But I had a nice swim in the afternoon!

On the way there

I had noticed a dive shop sign... so I did some dives with them the next day! (they had no connections to the camp people, the diveshop just happened to be on the campground, I couldn't find out how that happened... but was v. glad! Exellent dives!)

From the campground it was only a 15 min drive back to town, and the hotel where us swimtrekkers stayed only a couple of min drive farther (about a 30 min walk). I checked in and...

... from the island's main harbour, Olbia, it's an hour's drive north to the nice little tourist harbour Palau where the ferries to the La Maddalena Archipelago (where the SwimTrek takes... water) embark.
I'd passed through last year, so I knew which campground I wanted, because... SEA! beach!
