And Then There Were 4.....

A couple of days ago Lesley brought a new little baby boy into the world, weighing in at 7 lbs 3 oz and 19.5 inches--Duke Steven Sadler. The name Duke comes in part from the legendary Hawaiian surfer Duke Kahanamoku (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD9rtpPuppY) and Steven is Lesley's dad's name. Duke is our miracle baby, conceived with the help of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Lesley's pregnancy started out sick with nausea. Things got a little easier into the second trimester. Duke was much more active in the tummy than Nolan was. Nolan enjoyed feeling his little brother's kicks and punches throughout the pregnancy. While Lesley was pregnant with Duke, we would say "Nolan, you are such a big boy" to which he would respond "NO! I am a big brother."

Lesley's due date was 11/27/15 (The day after Thanksgiving). She started going into labor around 5pm on Wednesday 11/24. We took her to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma around 9pm and she delivered at 6:18am. Lesley's mom and sisters were in the delivery room with us. We stayed another night at the hospital and were released around 10:30am on Thanksgiving. During our stay at the hospital Duke hardly even made a peep. He didn't cry when they gave him shots or took blood. The people staying in the room next to us had a baby that cried non-stop. I felt bad. Our hospital stay was nicer than the hospital Nolan was born in. The room we stayed in was bigger and the nurses left us alone more.

Lesley stayed home with the baby while I joined Nolan and Lesley's family for Thanksgiving at the Miles' home. We had amazing food and afterward went to the new Pixar dinosaur movie. I'm thankful for Lesley's parents taking Nolan for a few days so that Lesley can try to rest.

Last Few Months Low Down

The last few months have been fun. There has been a lot of bike riding with Nolan. Lesley and I have been training for races. She just did the Vancouver, BC half marathon a couple weeks ago with a couple of her girlfriends. I have my first marathon coming up in Portland in a month.

We have been riding our dirt bikes. I got cut off in a corner and went over my handlebars. I landed on my knee and had a big bursa (water filled sack) above my knee cap for a few weeks.

We spend Labor Day in Whistler up in Canada. That place is so awesome and beautiful. The highlight of the trip was the train wreck hike that we went on as well as the Olympic Village. I could easily spend a whole week up there hiking and mountain biking, or better yet, snowboarding.

We went on a family vacation to Bend, OR with all of Lesley's family. We had family pictures. It was good to see the whole family and watch the World Cup soccer, especially before Tyler's family moved to Spain.

Lesley and Nolan also spent some time with my family on a Utah trip. They both had fun.
