Your knives deserve better. Let's fix that.
Tomorrow at 6:30pm
· Washington
Note: this is a women’s only event. Check my page for upcoming events! We're having a legit knife skills night. I'll teach you how to sharpen your knife with a whetstone so it stops tearing instead of actually cutting, then we'll work through the cuts that make everyday cooking so much faster + better. At the end, we'll cook with everything we chopped. Yes, you will eat. All levels are welcome, whether you're the confident home cook who wants to sharpen up their skills or someone who learned to chop from vibes alone. No judgement here, just knife vibes. What we're learning: - the dice: fine, medium, large, and why size does actually matter - the chop: rough v fine, knowing when each serves you best - the julienne: matchsticks great for garnish, stir fry and being fancy - the slice: bias, crosscut, and ribbon cuts What we're cutting: - onions (including how to not ugly cry) - garlic - carrots - herbs The deets: - cost: $15 covers all produce + ingredients to make an amazing dinner - bring: your knife if you have one (I have extras) and a cutting board - vibe: dinner is included

McKinney @ The Garage
Wed at 6pm
· Boyds
6/3 McKinney @ The Garage w/ Dono Dono, Josee Molavi & My Mandy. McKinney is a bass player and singer-songwriter. She spent her formative years in southern West Virginia where she literally LIVED inside a music school. Deeply incapable of leaving the Appalachian mountains, but needing an escape from her 6,000 person hometown, she landed right around the bend in Asheville, NC. When McKinney isn’t on stage you might find her teaching music lessons at LEAF Global Arts, working shows at The Orange Peel, or at lock on the rugby pitch. McKinney's music genre is about as fluid as the average Asheville resident's sexuality. Her Indie Pop sound is blended with influence from her blues singer mother, a BFA in Jazz, and the 8 year old version of herself that just wants to play classic rock. Although pinning down her genre may be hard, you can consistently expect sad lyrics. You will probably enjoy her lyricism if you are emotionally suppressed and enjoy listening to sad songs to make yourself feel better. https://mckinneymusic.net

Sat at 1:30pm

Theme: Sugar & Spice Our beloved pastry swap returns, and this month we’re embracing both sides of the bakery case: sweet treats and savory bites. Bring a pastry inspired by either: 🍯 Sugar: cinnamon rolls, fruit danishes, cardamom buns, galettes, cream puffs, sweet breads, cookies, brown butter anything, etc. 🌶️ Spice: jalapeño cheddar croissants, curry puffs, savory hand pies, chili crisp focaccia, sausage rolls, pesto twists, hot honey biscuits, etc. Homemade, bakery-assisted, frozen-and-elevated… all levels of participation are welcome. The only requirement is that it feels pastry-coded. This is a women-only space, and yes, you should absolutely come alone. That’s the magic. You’ll walk in nervous and leave with six pastries, a new favorite bakery recommendation, and at least three new group chats. 💸 $10 to cover supplies (boxes, plates, utensils, drinks, etc.) 🥐 Bring a pastry to participate in the swap ✨ Sweet, savory, flaky, spicy vibes strongly encouraged The point is community, friendship, and aggressively delicious pastries. Only 50 spots are available, so please RSVP only if it’s a yes! Once your payment is received, you are guaranteed a spot (you must pre-pay). There will be NO refunds after Friday, May 29. hi d.c. :) here's a little about myself: my name is jules and i've lived in the dmv most of my life! i'm almost year post grad and i've been wanting to get this passion project off the ground for quite some time. here it is! unfinished, but on it's way. after being an editor for different publications in college, i've wanted to create and find that kind of community around me. i love reading poetry, have a little bit of website smarts, and the willingness to see it through, and i hope there are some like-minded people out there. if you're interested at all, whether or not you've been an editor/have experience or just love to read and have the desire to meet and engage with other creatives, then consider this an invitation! please fill out the form if you're interested in becoming an editor, or just want to keep up with any antics we get into! sincerely, j.w.

Do the names Ponyboy Curtis, Darrel, and Sodapop ring a bell? Did you root for the ‘Greasers’ and the ‘Socs’? Remember those cuffed jeans, unfiltered cigarettes, and witty nicknames? If this is you we’re talking about here, it is pretty much a given that you fell in love with S.E. Hinton’s iconic coming of age novel, ‘The Outsiders’, along with the rest of the world. You might have even seen the 1983 film adaptation, or even the 1990 stage version, and felt that this is a tale that you absolutely need to dig into.
