Hi there! I'm Nat (30 enby, they/them), author of the queer-centered fantasy series Wanderborn!Wanderborn is a novel-length series about four very different youths in a high fantasy LitRPG world. In the Realm, magic is represented by the gifts of the Divine Archetypes. The gifted blessed by these magical beings use their abilities to support the Realm and to combat its many threats. Sentinels of the Bastion Cities stand in staunch opposition to the endless tide of the outsiders that spawn in the five Wastes. Wardens and hunters patrols the wilds of the heartlands and the frontier, putting down dangerous monsters spawned from animals warped by ambient magic just as often as they find themselves up against outlaw gifted, who use the gifts of the Forbidden Archetypes to satisfy their greed and lust for violence. And stories are told of adventurers, those rare few heroes who stand vigilant against threats ever more dire.Across the Realm, in just a pair of fateful days, four young gifted find new roads opening before them. In an underground ritual chamber, a cult's sacrifice goes wrong, imbuing dark powers unwillingly into their planned victim. In the High Court of a shinning Bastion City, a noble boy is saved from the plots of his family by a mysterious knight. In the slums of a city ruled by gold, a street orphan meets an assassin more interested in saving than killing. My favorite point of reference for this is anime like Sword Art Online or DanMachi - a world where magic is systematized in a way inspired by, but not directly related to, tabletop or video games. In short, it's a world where character have specific abilities, and are c oncerned with getting experience and levelling up.Do I need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to read Wanderborn? - While queer themes are central to Wanderborn, with all 4 main characters being diverse in both their orientation and gender identity, I don't personally feel you need to be queer to find enjoyment from it, just as LGBTQIA+ people can still enjoy cis/straight centric works (ie. 99% of all media).How is this work released? - For the first month (through 4/12), chapters will be released three times a week (M/W/F), before transitioning to 1-2 chapter per week, every Friday. Chapters are released publicly on RoyalRoad and Scribblehub. The Patreon will also be at least 5 full chapters ahead of the public release, but will follow the same release schedule. Once the public release has reached the end of book 1 (estimated at around ch. 60), it will be released digitally through Amazon and Kindle.What are the benefits of patronizing? - I will not be doing multiple tiers of early releases, as I'd rather the entire Patreon community be able to enjoy and discuss the story together with every release. Instead, all patrons will get the same 5 advanced chapters, pdf copies, and some ancillary benefits (currently including a weekly author's blog and a free digital copy of the books on release).No discord? - I've noticed, like I'm sure you all have, that literally every patreon ever made offers a discord server. Do any of us really want yet another discord? If this actually manages to take off and start accumulating a real following, I'll open a poll to gauge interest in some sort of community building, be it a monthly stream, a discord, or something else.
