Remaining July 2014

On July 1st, Angela, Margo, Clara, Hazel and I packed up and headed to Utah. We stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam, for ice cream in Panguitch and played with fake mustaches. I really love road trips, especially when I get to stop and sight-see along the way.
Image
That night we didn't do much but stay up way too late talking. It's hard for me to verbalize how much I love my sisters and the only thing that is better than visiting with one of them is getting to spend time and visit with more than one of them at once. The next day we went up to a water tower and hung out with the animals on the farm.
Image
That night I got to go see and have dinner with Jen and Curt and their boys in their new house. Beka and her family also came. Clara, Jen's Cache and Beka's twins were all born within a month of each other (Clara in December, the twins in January and Cache in February). It's fun to get together with old friends and visit and laugh and watch our kids play together.
Image
The following day (I think we're up to the 3rd), we went to a Children's museum at Thanksgiving Point. It was really awesome, minus the seemingly thousands of other people that were there. It was pretty crazy. The kids still had lots of fun.
Image
Lucas and Clara are little cousin lovers and I love it. It's so cute, especially since I feel like they could be siblings based on their looks.
Image
That night Rachel, Angela and I went to dinner at Communal. I don't think I can visit her anymore without a visit to Communal. We love it so much and every time we have gone, the food is absolutely incredible. Of course being with sisters makes it that much better.
Image
On the 4th of July, I went and picked Jason up from the Provo airport first thing in the morning. We figured it'd be better if he just flew out for the holiday weekend and didn't have to miss so much work. That day was a lot of fun. We went up to Silver Lake Flat with Don, Rachel, their kids, a few of their friends, Kiri and Aaron and kids, Daniel and Ashley. We rode the RZRS, the kids played in the lake and we just soaked up the beautiful sights. It was really gorgeous.

That night we went and watched fireworks from the grass at a church. The weather was beautiful, I was with so many people I love and I was feeling so grateful for our country, my family and my life.
Image
These little sweeties top the list of things I'm grateful for. They had so much fun playing with cousins and being outside.
Image
Image
The following morning (I think we're up to July 5th now...), Rachel, Angela and I hiked to the Mount Timp Cave. It was oh, so pretty and once again, fun to be with my sisters. That will never get old.
Image
Later that day we rode Trax up to Salt Lake to wonder around and explore. We found the coolest mural of books downtown.

|||Not a great picture, but I wanted to capture this sweet moment: Micah, without being asked, went and pulled the trash barrel in, whilst carrying Clara on his shoulders. He's a really great kid. |||Clara and Lucas wanted to "build a table" so they got to work in the shop. |||I got to go visit Brittany. I love her, no matter how much time passes between our visits. |||Jason was super excited about his DC. Too bad the one that said Ana was really for him and not me. |||Sunday afternoon we went and drove past the Draper Temple, then went to see some nearby views. |||Casey looks so much like Rachel in this picture. |||Hazel really getting into Emma's Kindle. |||We had another firework show of our own. |||Lucas and Clara being cousin lovers. Again. |||Clara with Micah.
Image
And then of course it was time to go home. On our way we stopped at Navajo Bridge. It was so beautiful! Oh yeah, we also stole Casey Anne and she rode home with us. We all loved having her along.

Image
We also stopped at this look out. The blue sky and red rock always looks so beautiful to me.
Image
And now all these pictures make me want to go to Utah. Good thing it's summer and I'll probably be going to Utah within the next few months!

Ventura, CA 2014

We were grateful and excited to be able to return to Ventura, California in June with our friends. This will definitely be one of my most cherished memories of this time of my life. The weather, being on the beach, etc., is so wonderful. But I think what pushes the experience over the edge is the company. I feel so incredibly grateful for the friends we've made since being where we are and I've commented several times that I feel like our friendship is meant to be.

We ended up heading over on a Friday this year, which meant we got to go the famer's market on Saturday. We didn't get to do that last year and the fruit was so amazing and delicious.
Image
Sunday we went to church. There was the big debate of whether or not to stay for all the meetings. I feel like if I don't stay for all three hours, when I am sitting around doing nothing later in the day, I think, That was a waste, I could've been at church doing what I was supposed to. So we stayed. And so did everyone else and I was happy we did. The guys enjoyed Henry Weinhartd's in the parking lot after and we took tons of pictures by the giant tree. I'm so glad we did because apparently they put a fence around it since.
Image
When we got back from church, there were some very small tide pools and they found octopus. Clara wore them like jewelry. I love wildlife.
Image
The week did not lack ice cream cones. Or naps. Or relaxing.
Image
Planking. Ice cream cones by the fire. Oh, and the little big wheel car that Hazel LOVED. She took her driving so seriously and was always very serious driving around. She nailed a three-point turn and took advantage of it every time she got.
Image
Us, the Fillmores and the Welches were there the entire week. The Lindbloms were there the first half of the week and the Bennets were there the second half. Here are the kids (all but Chloe and Maren) getting ready to go to the beach in their wet suits. I think I mentioned last year, little kids in wet suits is pretty adorable.

One day we went to the Pier. This was another thing new from last year. It was fun and I loved taking pictures of Clara. Her little outfit just seemed to belong on the Pier on the windy, overcast day. She also loved to read everything we walked past.
Image
Here they are, the 15 kids that were with us the first half of the week (Tyler F. brough Benji P. along).
Image
One day the girls went shopping. In GAP, I found a price tag in Yen that I thought was really funny. Also, Jason came shopping with us. :) He likes to shop when he needs something and he pushed the stroller around after Hazel fell asleep and then patiently waited for us to finish up. Last picture: sisters and early morning bed head enjoying the waves.
Image
Jason spent a lot of time fishing. He did last year too and didn't catch anything so this year he was determined. He did more research and talked to the neighbor. This year, he was much more successful. He caught perch and a few different types of shark. When he took the hook out of the first perch he caught, a string of baby fish came out with it. Then, when he went to filet the fish, he saw many babies, each in a different phase of development, in the tummy. Between that and the fact that he didn't have a good filet knife, he opted to throw all the perch he caught back. Come to find out, they are an anomaly of a fish and give life birth. Interesting.
Image
One night in particular, Jason had an extra exciting night that provided great entertainment for everyone else. He was fishing at night, off the wall, in the high tide and had something huge on his line. Chet had everyone come out so we all went out to see what was on the other end of the line.
Image
Soon enough, Jason pulled in this beast. It's a shovel nose sand shark (if I remember correctly) and we put it in the kiddie pull for a size reference and also so everyone could check it out. It was really coo.
Image
Everyone wanted to touch it and get a picture with it. And then we tossed it back into the ocean. He caught another one that wasn't as long, but was a bit wider. It was definitely the biggest thing he has caught. Maybe next time he can catch something that big that we can eat. :)
Image
Image
We used the kayaks this year. Last year a few guys took them out, but this year we let kids go. I was worried I'd tip so Kristin took Clara for me. Also, Jason, Chet and Benjamin took one pretty far out to go fishing. I was hoping for some halibut, but they didn't have any luck.
Image
So a few of these pictures are my favorite. Not because they are perfect quality or the perfect picture, but because I feel like they are a perfect reflection of this group of friends we get to spend so much time with. The top middle picture: Ryan Bennett holding Clara's hand taking her to jump waves with the other kids. These people are mother and fathers to my kids without being asked, without thinking twice. It's like we're one gigantic family and I love to watch it play out.
Image
Last year one of my favorite things about the trip was the tide pools. This year, that might be true again. We found a lot more this year. Last year we seemed to only find starfish. This year, we found no starfish but lots of octopus and lots of sea slugs. We found a handful of crabs too. I guess it just depends on the time of year.
Image
These two .
Image
After tide pools, we get donuts. It's an early, early morning, but the lighting is so great and getting a glimpse of the exposed ocean floor is just fascinating to me.
Image
We went to the candy shop, Rocket Fizz, again. We put pennies on the train tracks, which is something we didn't do last year. One night, the adults went on a date. All the older kids helped watch the younger kids while we went boogie boarding and then out to dinner. Boogie boarding was cold, but I caught so many good waves. Jason doesn't love the ocean (he kind of hates being in it), but he went and enjoyed it for a bit until he got pummeled by a wave. All in all, it was really fun.
Image
The men built another "sand castle" (giant pile of sand) that the kids played on and jumped on for a while. Hazel preferred sliding down the hill on her belly as opposed to jumping, so she was full of sand by the end of that day. Jason fished off the shore and let Clara catch a few fish too.
Image
Our last night there was spent eating ice cream cones around the fire, s'mores and visiting. The kids went to bed and we got to visit a little more. We were on the porch at the Faria house and the moon was full, or pretty close to it, and was reflecting on the ocean. Seeing this, listening to the waves and having light conversation with the Fillmores was a moment I tucked away into my long term memory. (Similar to now as I type this, we're in the middle of an unusual May rain storm, my door is open, the cool air is occasionally wafting in and I am listening to the rain just pouring down while my family sleeps. The rain is so loud that I can barely hear the rumbling thunder.). These are moments that I feel are glimpses into Heaven; they're all sorts of wonderful. This isn't a great picture, but I knew it would help me remember how beautiful the moment was and how great it felt.
Image
Our last morning there, I woke up early and took just my girls to check out the tide pools. We didn't find much, except one giant starfish, lots of sea anemones and lots of bright green, moss-covered rocks. I loved how it all looked. Oh, and I haven't yet mentioned how awesome Hazel's hair was all week. The humidity really does wonders to her hair and the humid, salty ocean air gave her these perfect curls all week long. It was great.
Image
And then we headed back home. I never tire of driving past the windmills and I loved the little paper Clara wrote about them as we drove past.
Image
I will always cherish the memories we made this week. Such a fun opportunity that we were so fortunate to enjoy.

June 2014

I suppose one good thing about blogging/journaling nearly a year after events take place is that looking back through pictures is so much fun. It's amazing how much changes in less than a year.

In the beginning of June 2014, we went to Ventura, CA again with some of our favorite people. That trip will get it's own post. The rest of June was less intimidating, so that's where I started.

Before going to California, we got new tires|||Clara and Hazel's reaction when we attempted to clean our church building but no one showed up (in case it's not obvious, they were NOT happy)|||my to do list before CA - I worked quite a bit at Jack-in-the-Box leading up to the trip so it made everything seem crazier|||I hitched a ride to JITB the day we went to CA with my dad, so then I met Jason and the girls at DI|||dressing up is fun to do|||swimming and playing at my mom's|||I opened my computer up to work and found this little note from Clara. Kids are the best.
Image
fancy glasses|||bandaids on faces - never a good idea|||corn on the cob... messiest thing we eat I think|||cute kids|||make-up artist|||I can't even remember what I bought all this junk for... clearly I have no self control at times (I think it was our Passey family reunion)|||sushi with some of the Penrods
Image
We went to Avery's ladybug party. The lady bugs were really cool. After that, we played at the park and I forced the girls to let me take a few pictures. It's funny how dominant girls are on both mine and Jason's side.
Image
Trying to take work selfies. You can see how well that worked out for me...
Image
We took a day trip to Canyon Creek to scout out a spot for the upcoming Passey reunion. It was such a beautiful day and it brought back a lot of memories from when I was little and played at this same spot. We were all annoyed with the bridge they built over the creek which made playing less fun and harder for the little ones. It also made us realize we would need to find a different spot to camp since big trailers wouldn't be able to get by.
Image
Lucy and Elsa got baptized. Little girls and fresh flowers are hard to beat.
Image
And just some Sunday pictures of these little goofballs. I love to dress them alike when it comes to church clothes. I love their silly personalities and how they are so different, but I can love them equally. I love that they love each other and play so well together. Every single day I am grateful for them and that I get to be their mother.
