Happy Chinese New Year! Bring on the Rabbit Year!

K wanted to spend Chinese New Year with his family - so we loaded up and went down to LA for 5 days. We went to the Chinese temple and saw some fun stuff. I don't have pictures of it all because at some point I was so worried that we had lost s. Then he was found and I was able to enjoy the day. My favorite part was the dragon that dances. It is so beautiful and amazing how the men make his body move. Alas I don't have a picture of it. This is part of the temple we were at.

Here is the wishing tree. Spencer wanted to get the red ribbon but didn't want to throw his wish in with the others. It hangs in his room - hopefully to bring him good luck all year.

Then we waited in line for some STINKY TOFU!! That is some disgusting stuff, and the line is LONG. The boys tried it and liked it (we bribed them with $1) Even the Bizarre Foods guy thought it was nasty. I did try some and it was like cow dung exploding into my mouth and nose. Then a couple of hours later it would just pop back up in my nose. Never again.

On the walk back to the car..

We went to the parade in Chinatown, but I think I took pictures with k's sisters camera. Oh well. Here is Sushi in her Valentine's Day party outfit - so cute.
Image Two stories I have to record.
The other day the boys were getting in the car after school. J looked like he had won the lotto, and s looked like he was going to cry. Here is a little of the conversation
J - laughing, laughing - oh that was so funny
Mom - what was funny? and why is s so sad?
J - Oh it was so funny to me, but not to him
Mom - (insert. short lecture on the not-so-niceness of this attitude) so what happened?
S - head down, and some tears in his eyes
J - oh we were standing there when some girls from my class came up to s and said "you're so cute!!" (some more laughing)
Mom - speechless (and inside kind of laughing too)
Poor boy - These little ladies have been bugging him all year.
On the same note. K was going through j's valentine loot from school when he started to laugh and said "no way".. Well - yes way - there were some Valentine's in j's box from his class - for s. A little crazy, but funny - these are some persistent ladies.

And then he was 9

Where does the time go? Another birthday - but a different theme. Aliens was what J wanted and K had to deliver. Notice the chopsticks holding up the mother ship. They didn't prove to be strong enough. They lasted just long enough for the pictures.

Image I am noticing a trend - there is never going to be another birthday where someone doesn't bite the cake. I get it - they are boys. What they don't care about is tainting the whole cake with their nastiness. Seriously - save me some dang cake. There was barely any left by the time J and S had at it.Image

Here is the Sushinator showing everyone what she thinks of bows. First she finds it.

Image
Then she pulls on it.

Then she discards it! What a butt!!

We were at my new little niece's baby blessing when Sushi saw her pain as she lay asleep in my arms. Sushi knew she had to rescue Penelope from the annoying bow on her head. She did all she could to get it before I could stop her but I am too fast! Sushi is looking out for all the little ladies who hate the bows.
