Returning to Singapore

Returning to Singapore after years abroad should feel like a homecoming. For many, it’s a chance to reconnect with familiar roots, shared language, and cultural belonging. But for some returnees, the experience is far from comforting. Instead of warmth, they are met with cold efficiency. Instead of community, they find themselves thrust into a relentless rat race.

Singapore’s pace is undeniably fast. The streets are crowded, the schedules tight, and the expectations high. Even in moments meant for connection—family dinners, walks with friends, shared commutes—people are often glued to their phones, more present in digital spaces than with one another. The city may be physically familiar, but emotionally, it can feel distant.

This raises a deeper question: What does it mean to come home, if home no longer feels human? When shared spaces become transactional and social interactions feel performative, the sense of belonging begins to erode.

Singapore’s success story is remarkable, but true progress must include compassion. A nation is not only built on infrastructure and innovation—it is built on how people treat one another.

A Prayer

Lord,

For those returning with hope but finding only hurry,

Bring comfort and clarity.

Teach us to slow down, to look up,

And to value people over performance.

May we not be swept away by the race,

But anchored in Your peace.

Let Singapore be a place not only of success,

But of soul.

Amen.

Koreans tend to be more welcoming toward white people

The below is extracted from this article -

“Koreans’ social distance toward people from different countries has not changed greatly in the past 10 years,” wrote Kim Seok-ho, a sociology professor at Seoul National University, in a 2019 report.

“Both in 2008 and 2018, Koreans were most inclusive toward Americans and Europeans, while they considered being most distanced from the Chinese and Southeast Asians.”

Koreans tend to be more welcoming toward white people from developed countries but disregard those from countries with lower economic status, Kim wrote, adding that studies indicate this general perception is subject to change depending on how much interaction the individuals have had with foreigners.

“Those with high economic and educational background are very much favorable of Japanese, European and Americans, but those in lower brackets are very negative toward people from all countries,” Kim added.

A popular explanation for favoritism toward white people is that Korea has absorbed ideas about racial hierarchy from the US military forces stationed in the country, and that as a developed country Korean looks down upon those from economically weaker countries.

A survey of 207 foreigners in Korea by a local media outlet called the Segye Ilbo showed last year that 66.3 percent of respondents said Black people faced the greatest discrimination in the country, whereas 30.4 percent said this was true for those of Asian descent.

Jesus is the Way

Jesus is the Way and the Truth that will set you free. John 14:6 tells us everything. I am very surprised that, in Myeongdong, South Korea, there are so many people spreading the gospel. They gave out flyers with messages or comics to tell people that death is real and that Jesus is real as well. Nothing in Seoul gives me a deeper impression than God’s creation, which includes the beautiful white snow and godly people who are spreading the gospel.

Only Jesus saves!

John 8:12 I Am The Light Of The World

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
and all these things shall be added to you.
