With the explosion of popularity with music videos becoming a new norm, multidisciplinary artist Derek Jarman’s venture to collaborating with pioneers like Pet Shop Boys, The Smiths, Marianne Faithfull and more, demonstrated music videos provided an alternative short form synthesizing the traditions of the television commercial with experimental film and avant grade practices. Pleasure Style Attitude presents Director’s in Focus: Derek Jarman’s Music Videos, a discussion celebrating Jarman’s artistic integrity alongside his friends in the underground scene actively inspired and inspiring outsider subculture.
We’re partnering with Houston Cinema Arts Society to present a free week-long virtual screening of seven films by Sky Hopinka & Simon Liu.
Beginning May 10th at 10am and extending to 10pm on May 16th, those who register can view the program via a shared vimeo link. And on Wednesday, May 13 at 7pm CST, we will conduct a live virtual Q&A with both Sky and Simon on YouTube Live, moderated by programmer Michael Sicinski.
