Fast, nimble, and itching for a fight

Image

My thanks to John Dossett for sharing this stunning aerial view of an unnamed PT moving briskly over the water. With her flag flying full, her throttle pushed to the max, and her weapons poised, she moves powerfully ahead. My guess is that this brilliant photo was snapped late in the war, probably 1945, somewhere in the South Pacific.

This PT boat reflects the changes that began, possibly in 1943, when PT skippers like John F. Kennedy were transforming the PTs into heavily armed gunboats to go into the shallows and go directly at enemy shore batteries and surface craft. There are no torpedoes evident on the deck of this boat–it’s all about speed and the firepower for close contact fighting.

Some photographs speak for themselves. This is one of those photos. Just looking at it makes my blood run faster.

Our nation now engages in a mighty struggle against an oppressive, tyrannical regime that murders its own citizens. We are currently under a government deploys cosplaying thugs who are executing citizens. The cost for exercising First Amendment rights can now cost an ordinary citizen his or her life. This is what we are seeing in the streets of Minneapolis. We no longer have the luxury of pretending that fascism has not been unleashed on the citizenry of the United States of America.

My father, George “Red” Stahley, took an oath in 1943 to protect this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. He fought the Nazis in the Mediterranean in 1944. He fought the forces of Imperial Japan in 1945. He saw action; he saw fellow sailors die on dark rivers. He came home with a case of PTSD that was never diagnosed but found expression in harmful ways over the remainder of his life. It is now 2026 and the enemy waging war on our nation occupies all three branches of the Federal Government. We no longer have the luxury of neutrality. The future of America now hangs in the balance.

The fighting spirit of the US Navy’s Mosquito Fleet inspires me to do everything in my power to repeatedly say “NO.” And I am saying “NO” every damn day to the corrupt, homicidal administration that is bent on crushing dissent, that is murdering citizens in the streets, that is kidnapping children, and that attempts to distort the truth in every possible way. A political party that has been transformed into a protection racket for an international pedophile ring now seeks to impose its will on every facet of American life. This will not stand.

The PTs were small boats manned by large men–men large in boldness, large in courage, and large in the determination to win at whatever cost. May their spirit light the way for all American citizens of good will who are committed to the ideals expressed in the founding documents of our nation. The Mosquito Fleet showed us just how the battle must be waged–stay nimble, stay on offense, and always, always give as good as you get.

I am a fortunate son, bequeathed a legacy of Navy moxie and an indominable spirit. And I am in very, very good company of fellow citizens across the country who will never back down in the face of evil, cruelty, and hatred. A sleeping giant has been awakened and it will not be going back to sleep anytime soon.

The Mosquito Fleet never backed away from a fight. And neither will we.

Chickenshit bullies — ICE

Image

My father, George “Red” Stahley, came home from his Navy service in WWII with a chip on his shoulder. He had entered the service as an idealistic teenager and returned a seasoned, battle-tested veteran. As much as he detested Imperial Japan, Red’s loathing of Nazi Germany only grew more intense as he absorbed the horrific news about the crimes against humanity committed by the Third Reich, especially the heinous work of Hitler’s Gestapo. The years between 1946 and 1950 were years of hard adjustment for Red. Like many WWII vets, fitting back into the routines of civilian life was no small task for him.

The hard edges of that chip on Red’s shoulder lasted for decades, softening only near the end of his life. His short fuse and a penchant for raw-edged sarcasm made family life a bruising experience for me well into my teenaged years. Leaving home at age 18 was both a necessity and the most important decision I’ve ever made.

My father detested bullies and, in his own way, he schooled me on how bullies are to be handled. Growing up as his only son, he managed to put a chip on my shoulder–and that chip has served me well. Combined with the 90 proof Irish blood I received from my mother, Rita Marie O’Neill, I was given the tools I needed to survive as a child who was always among the smallest kids in the classroom, on the playground, in every athletic contest, and on the streets of Philadelphia.

My aversion to bullies shaped my character, sharpened my instincts, and gave me more than one black eye over the course of my life. Over time, I came to savor my encounters with bullies and the more physical the encounter, the better.

And now, like a plague of flying, filthy monkeys, I see ICE “agents” unleashed on communities across our nation. Let’s be clear, these overfed, low IQ, poorly trained, over-armed punks are nothing more than chickenshit bullies. While they are fond of utilizing Gestapo tactics–like shooting unarmed people at point blank range in the head–they are too scared to show their faces or identify themselves. At least the real Gestapo of the Third Reich had enough self-respect to show their faces. These chickenshits can’t even do that and take delight in overpowering citizens often just because of the color of their skin or the accent in their voice. They’re so pathetic, they can’t even measure up to the real Gestapo.

The ICE chickenshit brigade has pushed American citizens too far. You may be sure there will be pushback. Bullies never fail to overplay their hand. When reprisals come–and they will–it will not be a pretty picture. ICE has awoken a sleeping giant and that giant is pissed.

Abiding bullies has never been a defining characteristic of Americans.

And it’s not about to start now.

ICE — the American GESTAPO

Image

My father, George “Red” Stahley, hated the Nazis. And he REALLY hated the Nazi SS. And what he THOUROUGHLY HATED above it all was the NAZI Gestapo–Hitler’s secret police who did the dirtiest of the Nazi dirty work. In the above photo, a GESTAPO henchman is seen doing what the GESTAPO did best–executing innocent civilians at point blank range. Anything here sound familiar?

Red’s first posting as a young radioman was with PT Squadron (RON) 15 in the Mediterranean theater. In August of 1944, the PTs assisted in the invasion of Southern France–an operation that was overshadowed by the D-Day invasion of Normandy which occurred two months earlier. in June of that year, RON 15 utilized several bases, among them: Bizerte (Tunisia), Maddelana (Sardinia), and Basta (Corsica). I distinctly remember hearing those names from my father when I was a small boy–and they etched themselves into my memory.

As part of the Allied invasion of Southern France, Operation Dragoon, the PTs helped to maintain tight control of the coastline, harassed Nazi shore batteries, transported liaison officers, and engaged enemy vessels. The PTs relayed messages when radio silence was required. The frontline work of the PTs helped to make the operation what some WWll historians have described as a “nearly faultless amphibious operation.” The PTs also conducted search and rescue missions throughout the invasion.

While I know much more about my father’s service in the South Pacific in 1945, I know that one of his experiences in the Mediterranean involved a strafing run by Nazi fighter planes on one of those bases where he was stationed in the communications center. Coming under fire from enemy aircraft on one of those bases was a dramatic reminder for Red of how serious things could get in the blink of an eye. By the time he was transferred out of RON 15, he was very familiar with the enemy he was fighting, the goals of National Socialism, and the strategy they were using to achieve it. His intense hatred of Nazis only grew stronger from that point on.

In the years immediately after the war, Red learned of the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps, the hideous treatment of the Jewish people, and the evil infrastructure of the Third Reich. The workings of the SS and the Gestapo enraged him as did few other things. The very sight of a swastika set him off like a rocket leaving a launching pad.

My father hated the Nazis, their SS, and most especially their vile Gestapo. And I hate them all as much as he did. He stood against the cruel brutalities of fascism in WWII and I’m standing against it now.

How tragic to see an American version of the Nazi Gestapo – ICE – unleashed on our beloved nation. The recent murder of an unarmed civilian in Minneapolis clearly demonstrates that a favored technique of Hitler’s Gestapo — executing unarmed civilians at point blank range — is a method now employed by the homicidal, poorly-trained, and shameless storm troopers employed by our federal government. The crimes they are committing every day, in our name, are shocking reminders of what the Nazis did in Germany. Are we not better than this? How long will we endure the shoddy remake of the Third Reich being carried against us by a racist, violent, thuggish regime that worships at the altar of Adolph Hitler?

Tomorrow, I will be joining forces with millions of other American citizens who will rise up all across this nation to say ENOUGH. And we’ll say it like this: ICE OUT FOR GOOD. I would urge the current administration to pay attention–their behavior is intolerable, cruel, and deeply un-American. We beat the Nazis in 1945 and we’re going to beat them again.

And still we rise.

Just another day at work for Hitler’s Gestapo in WWII. Maybe ICE uses this as a training photo for their new recruits–why not learn from the best?

George “Red” Stahley at 101

Image

A happy 101st birthday to my father who was born on this day in 1924. He passed away a few weeks shy of his 75th birthday, on November 13, 1999.

It was only in the final few years of his life that Red began to open up about the darker side of his experiences in WWII on the Navy’s PT boats in the European and South Pacific theaters. Through his military records, old photographs, and the recollections of some of his fellow PT squadron mates, I have been able to piece together a few of the elements of those pivotal years between 1943 and 1946 when Red served our nation with integrity, valor, and pride.

While there remain many missing pieces to the full story of his WWII navy service, there is one thing I know for certain. My father’s determination to step forward and serve his country took root in the days immediately following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. At the time, Red was a junior at Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia. That unshakeable decision determined the arc of his entire life.

Red kept his plans to himself, knowing the worry it would cause to his parents. He was a beloved only son. By the time he graduated in 1943, his path was set; Red went immediately into the service. And from 1943 until he left the Navy in 1946, Red grew from a skinny, Philly teenager into a young adult who had become a seasoned veteran, a man who had seen action in jungle warfare, and a young man who knew the toll that war takes on all who experience its fearsome, bitter fire.

In ways I do not entirely comprehend, I know that my father prepared me well for the life I’ve been privileged to have. Many of the lessons I received were painful and hard-edged. As I look back over the years, gratitude swells in the core of my being and I grasp with ever greater clarity that I was raised by a man who was a true patriot, a highly skilled radioman, a loyal crewmate, and a proud sailor. I can still remember as a young boy how I wore his white sailor’s cap everywhere–even putting it on my head to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night. The feelings of love and towering admiration were overwhelming.

I am a fortunate son, indeed. I was brought up by a man who took citizenship as seriously as death. He gave me an example as strong as steel and as deep as the ocean.

In the photo, Red stands with an unnamed crewmate in 1945 in the South Pacific.

PTs fight back at Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941

Image

In the midst of the overwhelming horror of the surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the first US vessel to fire back was PT 23 of Squadron (RON) 1. The squadron duty officer, Ensign N.E. Ball, saw the first enemy bombs explode in the attack. He then gave the order to fire back. When the twin .50 caliber machine gun on PT 23 drew a bead on a Japanese torpedo bomber, it was the first enemy plane to burst into flames and crash near Halawa.

What the PTs began at Pearl Harbor, they would help to finish in the South Pacific in 1945. My father, George “Red” Stahley was a junior at Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia in December of 1941. In the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor, he made the decision to enter the US Navy after his graduation from high school. And he did just that, becoming a highly skilled radioman who served in the Mediterranean with Squadron 15 and later in the South Pacific with Squadrons 27, where he was when Imperial Japan surrendered in 1945.

From the beginning to the end of WWII, the PTs were in the middle of the action. Their fighting spirit and willingness to take on the enemy, regardless of the odds, will inspire me until the day I die. How proud I am that my father stepped up and did his duty, determined to avenge what happened to his country on December 7, 1941.

Sixty two years ago – a long wait for truth

Image

Friday, November 22, 1963, was the day everything changed in America. The young president and his beautiful wife were in a motorcade travelling through the heart of downtown Dallas, Texas, when he was brutally murdered in a hail of bullets coming at him from multiple directions.

Sixty-two years have passed since that horrific day and we are only now beginning to come to grips with the truth of what transpired. There is ample evidence that the Warren Report was a compendium of lies. The assertion of a lone gunman – Lee Harvey Oswald – has been shattered by medical evidence.

Image

A documentary film released by Paramount Plus in 2023, “JFK: What the Doctors Saw,” by Barbara Shearer, presents shocking medical observations about the wounds sustained by the president as his limousine made its way through Dallas. Seven doctors who were in the emergency room of the Parkland Memorial Hospital on the day of JFK’s assassination are reunited to describe what they saw in the ER on that day–and what they were forced to suppress.

Among the bullets coming at the president on that afternoon, there was clear medical evidence that one of them entered his neck and, as it exited, the bullet blew off the back of Kennedy’s head. That truth alone is enough to explode the package of lies that was foisted on the American public and rigidly reinforced for years. We’ve been fed lie after lie after lie for decades.

The current revelations regarding the Jeffry Epstein international sex-trafficking operation and the web of rich, privileged deviants who participated in it, as well as the rapidly disintegrating coverup of the criminal enterprise by Donald Trump and his bungling cronies, pale in comparison to the sophisticated web of mendacity that surrounds the murder of President John F. Kennedy.

Don’t take it from me.

Check out the superb documentary made by Barbara Shearer and listen to the doctors who were young, skilled healthcare professionals working at the Parkland Memorial Hospital on November 22, 1963. Listen to the evidence they present as well as the story of what happened to them on that terrible day at Parkland and the days that followed. To say it was shocking is a massive understatement.

Epstein, Trump, and their ilk are just the latest entries in a long parade of malevolent fiends who have tried to subvert and destroy our nation. Like those who murdered JFK and then went on to plunge our nation into the Vietnam, War, their lies have caught up with them.

But we will survive them and reclaim our nation. Just like we’re doing right now.

Proudly ANTIFA — like the best of my family

Image

On a cold and windy Veterans Day, I was proud to wave the flag in honor of all our great veterans. I was especially mindful of my great grandfather, George Young (Spanish American War/Rough Riders), my father, George “Red” Stahley (WWII/USN), my Uncle Ed O’Neill (WWII/Army), and my Uncle Frank Morris (WWII Army). From them, I learned love of country, the pride of citizenship, and the responsibility of every citizen to do their duty. To a man, they despised fascism and were willing to step forward and put their young lives on the line for our nation. You could say I learned how to be ANTIFA from the very best–and damn proud of it.

Image

So as I step out and exercise my First Amendment rights as a citizen, I honor the memory of my brave family members. And it is high time to call things what they are: the current Republican Party has become a toxic cancer on the American body politic. The party of Lincoln has become the party of brutal thugs sweeping innocent people off the streets, filthy insurrectionists who assaulted the US Capitol on January 6th to overturn a free and fair election while assaulting police officers and causing the death of several of them, builders of concentration camps on American soil, and vicious enemies of the poor, disabled, and vulnerable. It is time to remove this toxic cancer before it destroys our nation.

Republicans in Congress have sworn fealty to a convicted sex abuser who is now clearly implicated in a massive, global child sex trafficking ring. With each passing day, the extent of Trump’s voluminous crimes against young girls are pouring out like filthy water from a busted sewer pipe. These are not my opinions–they are facts.

The current Republican Party has become as dangerous to the United States of America as the forces of global fascism that were unleashed in Europe and Asia in the first half of the twentieth century–the very enemies that my father, Uncle Ed, and Uncle Frank fought with valor and unimaginable courage. The Republican Party protects, enables, and defends a man who ordered his reprehensible mob to attack the Congress, suspended food aid to the poorest Americans, and even demolished a part of the White House.

Image

Bringing a lawless, child-sex-trafficking, demented president to justice is only the first step. His vile enablers must also be brought before the bar for their crimes and cruelty against the American people. The Republican Party is now the party of lawlessness, grifters, Neo-Nazis, and sex offenders. They are racist to their core. The GOP is now the party that protects the ringleader of a global child sex-trafficking network that exploited young girls for the benefit of rich and powerful men over several decades. The truth about this hideous criminal enterprise is galloping across newsrooms in every part of the globe.

I am proud to stand with my fellow citizens here in West Virginia and loudly say, “HELL NO” to the reign of terror, crime, and vulgarity that has been let loose on our beloved country by Trump and his Republican enablers. I owe at least that much to my amazing family members who stood tall for our nation when they faced the crisis of WWII. We are not about to surrender our nation to a party that stands for crime, cop-killing, sex-trafficking, harming the poor and vulnerable, and celebrates racism.

Thank you, Vets! You are the best of us. And we are proudly ANTIFA.

With gratitude, respect, and admiration we honor all those women and men who have served our nation in the armed forces. Our veterans are the best among us. As we mark Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, we pause to remember their willingness to step forward and serve, regardless of the cost. Their example and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Citizen soldiers and sailors — ANTIFA ALL

Image

Like my father, George “Red” Stahley, my uncle, Ed O’Neill was an enlisted man who stepped forward to serve in the US military in WWII. In this September 1943 photo, Ed poses with his sister, Rita Marie, who was 18 years old at the time. They are standing in the driveway of their home on north 3rd Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eight years later, Rita Marie would become my mother and Ed was selected to be my Godfather. They were children of proud Irish immigrants, Barney O’Neill (Derry-and don’t dare say “Londonderry”) and Nellie Sheehan (Cork). I am fiercely proud of the heritage bequeathed to me by my Irish family and my American CITIZENSHIP.

As part of the Allied Invasion force that stormed the beaches at Normandy in June of 1944, Ed O’Neill was targeted by a German sniper and lost half of his right leg. And in June of 1944, Red Stahley was preparing to deploy to the US Navy PT base in North Africa where the American PT boats would take part in the invasion of Southern France in the late summer of that year. Both Ed and Red placed themselves in harm’s way in service to our nation; both came very close to death. Ed carried his physical reminder of that proximity for the rest of his life.

It cannot be overstated that Ed and Red were CITIZEN warriors who stepped forward as teenagers and grew into adulthood through the furnace of combat far away from home. They left their homes and all that was familiar to them to serve. They were both committed to defeating FASCISM. in Europe and Asia. In today’s lingo, they were full-on ANTIFA and damn proud of it.

I shudder to think what Red and Ed would make of the authoritarian fascists who are now attempting to subvert our government, destroy our cherished institutions, rewrite our history, dispatch masked thugs to sweep ordinary people off our streets and celebrate shameless vulgarity in public discourse. My father and my uncle would not hesitate to state that they were only doing their duty in the 1940s. They thought of themselves, first and foremost, as CITIZENS who took that title seriously. They stepped forward to enlist because they were American CITIZENS and they knew what that entailed.

As I continue to do the daily work of resistance here in West Virgina, Virginia, Washington DC against the vile fascists who are now running rampant across our nation, disgracing the proud heritage of the United States, and attempting to trash all that we hold sacred–like the East Wing of the White House–before our very eyes, I am inspired by my father, my Uncle Ed O’Neill and my Uncle Frank Morris who served in the India-Burma theater to get out of bed every day, look for new ways to resist, and lay claim anew to the title that I was fortunate enough to inherit at birth–CITIZEN of the United States of America. My CITIZENSHIP compels me to act.

This is no time to sit back, cower, and pray that things will get back to normal. That’s not how it works. That’s not what CITIZENS do when our very nation is under attack. CITIZEN, for me, has always been more of a verb than a noun.

It’s time to get busy.

Ukraine strikes Russians in Crimea

Image

Glorious news from the continuing struggle against Russian imperialism in Crimea as Ukrainian pinpoint drone strike brings massive destruction to oil refineries in occupied Crimea. Earlier this month, the intrepid Ukrainian military pulled off a devastating attack against the vile, murderous Russian occupiers by delivering a powerful hit on yet another vital infrastructure nexus.

Just as America’s PT boats shredded the transportation network of Japan’s Imperial Navy in WWII, the Ukrainian Special Forces are ripping apart the energy and military infrastructure of Russia one piece at a time. Perhaps one day soon, Ukraine will begin to punish Russia’s civilian population with massive destruction to their energy resources as Russia has inflicted on Ukraine. My fervent hope is that the noble Ukrainian military will give as good as they get to an adversary who wants to remove their country from the global map.

With ingenuity and bold strikes, the Ukrainians are demonstrating that there will be no surrender, no quitting, and no end to the torment that they will bring to Russia until they vacate Ukraine. Putin’s homicidal, demented, merciless invasion of Ukraine cannot match the unbreakable determination of the Ukrainian people to be free, democratic, and sovereign.

Glory to Ukraine! Thank you for the inspiration you continue to give us.
