除夕
Finally~ we had our long awaited reunion dinner.. the steamboat party!! (jade and I had been talking about it for a long long time) =D The preparation was fun! Michelle and I started cooking the soup in the afternoon. It smelled really good (and taste good as well)! We had lotsa random stuff inside our soup, pork bones, sweet corn, wintermelon, dates and wolfberries etc. We washed the vegetables, thawed meat and brought everything down to our common room. I sorta overestimated the amount of food but well.. it is always good to have more food than less, right? But the assorted meatballs here are quite interesting, some even have cheese fillings!! my fav =D
Overall, this steamboat reunion dinner was a success! yays!!~

Happily eating away~

Guess what we use as our steamboat?? Rice cooker =)

We had leftovers from the steamboat. Oops, 初一supposed to eat good food but well I guess we had to finish the noodles, meatballs and vegetables before they turn bad!

In the late afternoon, we went to Tsim Sha Tsui to watch the parade. Well, it was so-so only. Perhaps it was because we stood too far away from the "stage" so we didn't get to watch their performance. It was quite a disappointment for us.

After the parade, Shing invited us to his house because he lives at tsim sha tsui. This is the second time i'm going into a hong kong apartment. The first time was the apartment Wenting and her mum was staying at when they came. But shing's apartment is more interesting because...we got to take the classic hong kong lift that i always see in tvb dramas!! We had to pull open the gate manually but it will auto-lock after it is closed completely. i always thought that it is so unsafe. But according to Shing, if you try to pull open the door, the lift will stop moving. It sounds pretty safe, isn't it? I don't know why I'm so fascinated by it but I think its so cool to live there.

Its fireworks time!!!! We took a bus down to Wanchai pier in the late afternoon and met shing and his friend, Justin there. There were so many policeman, security guards and first aid people patrolling. Seems very safe=) We walk along the sea and found a really good spot with a ledge for us to sit on =D Tsim Sha Tsui will be a better place to watch the fireworks. Jo went there but we wanted to avoid the crowd so we decided to go to Wanchai. We were a little far away but it is still a very enjoyable 30minutes fireworks show =) They have interesting fireworks in shapes of the digit 8 and 元宝..

This little girl is so cute~ she keeps pointing and shouting something
like 船 and 惊 and calls us 姐姐 in cantonese.. so cute=D
(look at hyun soo in the background)

After the fireworks, there was actually a boat on fire! I didn't even realised it. I thought it was just fireworks. Luckily it wasn't a big fire and it was put out quickly.

I set my alarm at 830pm instead of 830am!! so I woke up late!! Rushed out of Patrick Manson in a hurry to meet Scott & co for my first hike in Hong Kong. We took a bus to Stanley and walked towards the start of Wilson trail.
Initially, the steps looked ok. I was like thinking, it is just steps and tracks, not dangerous mountain and rock climbing so it should be managable.

However, I was super unfit and weak so I was panting so hard while trying to climb up the steps. Jade and I were the slowest in the group and we stopped several times to rest. In order not to waste the resting time, I snapped alot of pictures =D

We finally came to a rest point!! HAHA.. We were so happy. The view is really beautiful and the wind was sooooo strong. I was perspiring like mad so I felt so cold when the wind blew against me.. brrrrr..

We FINALLY made it to the 1362nd step!!!! hurray!~ BUT that was not the end, we were not
even halfway through..

There was still a long way to go but no more steps so it was much easier.

I had an even harder time going down after climbing so high up. Because the path was rocky and steep. I was so afraid of rolling down. HAHA.. I think I am just humji lar. I was shaking as i slowly and cautiously walked down. Anyway, I finally understand why you must experience the downs before you can appreciate the ups, literary.
Acting!~

After going up and down a few times, we went to a level trek. Phew.. I survived =D And finally we went out to the main road where we bid goodbye to our hiking group. Jade and I hopped onto a bus to wanchai to meet others for KTV.
KTV was very cheap. I think it was 60HKD each inclusive of a very good lunch. But too bad they were singing alot of English songs that I don't know. HAHA because Kathy don't understand chinese. So we sang her the ABC song. ABC haih ngor haih ngor.. men tai deen tai douh haih ngor. okok.. i dunnot how to spell the cantonese yale romanisation but it sound something lidat. =P The Kathy will tell us mouh chou to tell us to shut up =P

After KTV, we took teng teng or issit ting ting (the tram on Hong Kong island) to Causeway Bay to do some shopping~ In the end, shing and the locals ended up buying instead of us, the non-locals. hahaha..

Macau trip!~ We met in the morning to buy ferry tickets from the Macau Ferry terminal. It was a long and tiring day! When we reached Macau, there was a guy standing at the bus terminal, telling us you can take this bus, you can take this to where and where. So we got onto the bus, but it seemed like it wouldn't bring us to where we wanted to go. We followed the crowd and alighted when everyone else alighted. Asked around for directions and finally reached the Senate's Square. It was very very crowded but I managed to buy one Portuguese egg tart and tried a free almond biscuit along the way.
I think picture speaks a thousand words. I shall post pictures for macau trip.
We arrived at Largo do Senado =)

Power of globalisation~

Largo de S. Domingos (church)

大三巴 (where i had portuguese egg tarts and almond biscuit)

Ruins of St Paul's

Museu de Macau

We took a bus to Taipa village. They were playing firecrackers and mini-fireworks there.
You can buy your own and light it there.

small 观音庙

Then we took a bus to Coloane Village and our dinner at Hac sa, 黑沙.

Acting gangsta at the basketball court. Hardcore Shing pulled a dustbin from afar to put his camera on it. HAHA. We were seen by a security guard and we thought he was going to scold us. But he was kind and asked us if we want him to help us take a photo =D

Took a bus back to the main island. On our way we saw The Venetian, which looked magnificient but fake. HAHA.. but still it was the most beautiful casino we saw that day. I didn't managed to capture it on my camera though..
Back in Largo do Senado, the streets looked different at night. a different feel =)

empty, quiet and more peaceful..

Casinos! How can we not go to casino when we are in Macau!? haha.. But we didn't gamble. We walked to many casinos but Jonathan didn't like the feel of the poker tables..

Beautiful interior design of the casino, even the restroom look luxurious. Trying to make you feel rich and induce you to spend more there.. HAHA..

Finally we took the ferry back at 12.20am and took a cab back to our halls.. tiring day!~

Woke up really late.. I think I went mongkok to shop with Eunjoo. Went to the Langham Place to look for Zee's bracelet. Nothing much done.

We went to Lantau Island~! First we took the MTR to Tung Chung to meet Yipei, Shing and Justin. We took a bus that brought us to Tai O, a fishing village on Lantau Island.
We took a boat ride around the area and took a look at the peng kuk. I don't know how to write that in chinese.

After that we went out to the open sea, saw a cliff that resembles a general's face.

The driver sped up when we were at the open sea and Jade was screaming so loudly. HAHA.. It was kinda scary and bumpy. haha.. Shing as usually put his camera on tripod for a group photo.

After that, we walked around the village.

some of them bought shrimp paste, good for cooking~

Along the way we had alot of snacks =D like some white colour kueh kueh (i don't know the name), bbq dried fish, and
雞蛋仔.. The uncle who sells
雞蛋仔 look so cool in his shades and he use charcoal to cook his 雞蛋仔.. haha.. supposedly taste better. We queued up very long to buy it lor!! his business was so good. haha..

Anyway, we went back to Tung Chung and then headed to Discovery Bay. On our bus trip there, we were exclaiming and ooh-ing at the buildings around us because it looked so much like Singapore!! For a moment, we thought that the bus took us back to Singapore. HAHA.. Discovery Bay wasn't very interesting. Nothing much there but the whole place looked very modern and clean with lotsa foreigners, just like Singapore. Quite a nice place to just chill and have fun on the beach but I wouldn't go there again.

Woke up late again and went to wellcome with Jade. We bought food and cooked our own dinner. Nothing much done.
That was the end of my longest Chinese New Year break ever. Not much cny 气氛 I feel but enjoyable in other aspects. Maybe because I didn't go visiting and didn't eat the chinese new year goodies and never receive any ang baos. Hahaha.. Was craving for pineapple tarts! I saw some in wellcome but it didn't look good so I didn't buy it. I'm trying to catch up with my blog posts.. but now I should start studying!!! Because yiiean is coming to find me in a few days and I'll be going Beijing for a few days so I wouldn't have time to study for my mid-term tests!! =D I must jiayou these few days!!
