Hands-on Django with PyLadiesBCN

In this workshop for non-experienced women and LGBTIQ+ people, organised by PyLadiesBCN, we’ll learn how to code our own blog with Django using HTML, CSS and Python. Throughout the whole day we’ll learn how web technology works, with the help of mentors that will guide us during the workshop. No previous knowledge required. Just bring your own laptop and be ready to learn and have fun!

About PyDataBCN 2023

We are thrilled to announce the creation of PyDataBCN, our new annual event dedicated to bringing together the Data Engineering and Data Science community working with Python in Barcelona. PyDataBCN aims to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and learning for professionals, enthusiasts, and students alike.

PyDataBCN will offer free hands-on workshops, lightning talks, and lots of fun activities. The workshops will be conducted by community members and will cover a range of topics related to data science, data engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn new skills, get insights into the latest trends and best practices, and interact with like-minded individuals. The lightning talks will feature short and impactful presentations by speakers from academia and industry, who will share their experiences, insights, and perspectives on various topics related to data science and engineering. We are excited and glad to announce that we are organizing the second edition of PyDay in Barcelona!

PyDay Barcelona 2018 is going to take place on November 24th at PuntMultimèdia (Espanya Industrial, Sants), full of FREE workshops, talks and contests for the local Python community and an opportunity to spread the word of its existence to other people that could be interested in Python.

What is PyDay Barcelona 2018 about?

PyDay Barcelona 2018 has the aim of expanding the local Python community. It will be a whole day event, consisting of different level workshops focused on people with a variety of interestss levels and interests. There will be two tracks: beginner and intermediate. Each workshop will be about 80 minutes long. There will be networking opportunities amongst attendees and the sponsoring companies: coffee breaks, open spaces, etc.

I’ve worked on large, multinational projects for nearly 30 years, beginning as a developer (with COBOL, VB, and Java) and transitioning to Database Engineering over the last 20 years, where I started my DBA career with Oracle and SQL Server. In 2015, I shifted my focus primarily to PostgreSQL. From 2017 to 2021, I led a team responsible for migrating thousands of Oracle databases from a vast, global “private cloud” environment to PostgreSQL in the “public cloud,” spanning multiple data centers in the US, EU, Singapore, Australia, and Korea. In February 2021, I joined Adyen at their headquarters in Amsterdam, focusing on some exceptionally large PostgreSQL installations. In Sept 2022 I joined Gartner in Barcelona to lead multiple DBA teams based in US, Europe and India, this was a very exciting role and I loved living in Barcelona. However after a year, I had to move to Madrid for family/health reasons and so decided to return to Adyen who have a new Tech Hub in Madrid.

Guillermo studied Physics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) where he did his Bachelor’s Thesis about Skyrmions in the superconducting group, where after graduating, he kept researching them and collaborating as an Associate Professor of Computer Modelling. Oriol discovered his passion for computational statistics and open source during his MSc in Astrophysics and has been working the topic since then. He started contributing to ArviZ and PyMC (two Python libraries related to Bayesian modeling) in 2019, joining their core teams not long after that. He started working in academia but he left after some years in order to be able to work more freely and collaboratively on open source, software and knowledge sharing. His main areas of interest are data visualization, model and inference diagnostics, model comparison, and prior elicitation.
