SEATTLE- AUGUST 21-24 2008

Image This picture is out of order, thought I had this posting thing figured out :) Here's me and Sarah at Pikes Place with the Seattle skyline beind us.
Image Robbie, Jake, and Sarah have been in Seattle, WA since May selling security systems. They are leaving for Houston this week and we haven't seen them all summer. So Robbie surprised Rob and I with airline tickets and a rental car for this past weekend so we could have a little fun together in Seattle. It was so much fun...THANK YOU ROBBIE! This is our first day having a little breakfast at IHOP and then off to Lake Washington for a TEAM activity with the rest of the ICON gang. Not sure why Jake looks so short in this picture :)

Image The day was beautiful and started off with some sand volleyball. You can see Robbie in the blue shorts and Rob in the dark blue shirt. The game was bound to be very competetive and sure enough it was...almost good enough for the Olympics I'd say.

Image
Here's Sarah and Jake going after the ball together. Looks like Jake got it.

Image
Way to serve Robbie! That's Darren in the picture too.

Image Rob and Sarah on the dock at the lake. So cute.

Image The 2 Lawrence Robert Readers :) I sure love these guys!

Image Then off to Pikes Place. What fun!! There are beautiful flowers everywhere for sale. This entire bunch was only $5! It smelled heavenly with every kind of flower you can imagine, and then some.

Image We found some fruit flavored honey sticks. We had mango and watermelon, cherry and cinammon. So yummy. You bite the end of and suck the honey right out of the straw.

Image Pretty Sarah with more wonderful flowers. She carried her ICON notebook all around so that she could be with us while we we were sight-seeing and still work.

Image
This is the first STARBUCKS Coffee ever, right at Pikes Place. You can find great musicians playing on the streets all around.

Image This is the famous Gum Wall down an alley at Pikes Place, kinda gross but interesting. By the way, we are not really touching it!

Image

Image Late that night when some of the team got back from selling we ate at Olive Garden.

Image We went back to Pikes Place again the next day after we called our good friend Diane Lefrandt. She used to live in Seattle and told us that we needed to go back and try some really yummy food that we hadn't even seen. We started out at the Doughnut Company. They have delicious little bite sized doughnuts that you can watch them make right there.

Image Then we found this place...oh wow...so incredible. It's called Crepe de France. They have all kinds of crepes and you watch them make your crepe to order. We had the spinach with provalone and mushrooms and topped it off with a fresh peach crepe with vanilla cream and powdered sugar. Honestly, Rob and I and Sarah felt guilty eating it because it was so good and Jake and Robbie weren't able to go with us that day. A pure delight, mmmmm.

Image
A picture of the Crepe menu.

Image Rob and I couldn't believe how green everything was there. These gorgeous flowers hung from street light poles all over the city, unbelievable!

Image Me and my favorite guy.

Image Another picture of the Seattle skyline.

Image
Sarah and Rob in front of the harbor, Puget Sound. If you look carefully behind the bridge you can see the snow-capped Mt. Rainier. It's just so pretty.

Image This trip was such a perfect get-a-way for Rob and I.

Image Sarah and I were lucky enough to get to go to church with this group of handsome men!!

Image After church Robbie took us to the neatest Sushi restaurant called Oean Sushi (I think). The food comes by you on a conveyor belt and you choose what you like. There are so many dishes. First you'll see a little sign describing what dish is following and each dish is covered on a color-coded plate. The colors indicate the price of the dish. If you see something you like you just take it off the conveyor. When you are all finished, the server comes and counts up the empty little plates at your place and totals it up for you. It was delicious and so fun! I really would like to go back again because there are so many places we didn't have time to see. It was just such a good time to hangout with our kids and play. Thanks again Robbie!

FHE Bowling

Image Tonight for Family Home Evening we went bowling. Dallas came with us and so did Westin and his friend Paige, but they had to leave before we took our picture. The high score of the evening went to ME!! 180 baby! Paige won the first game and gave Westin a slice of humble pie :) We bought the family pack and they gave us popcorn and soda while we bowled. Rob started us off with a short lesson and a prayer before we started so I'm sure that's why I bowled unusually well. So fun. I'll have to photoshop Paige and Westin in here, if only I knew how!

Ashlyn's Sealing

Image hee hee, this picture is out of order but oh well. This is Rob at Barro's Pizza holding a gift from my sister Kim and her husband Richard. They were in Washington with Michael visiting his mission and they found a hot sauce store so they chose a fun sauce to give Rob for his Collection in his office.
Image My brother Paul and his wife Marisa had their sweet little Ashlyn sealed to them for eternity at the Mesa, Arizona Temple on August 9. It was such a wonderful day to have our family there together in the sealing room and watch this beautiful family be sealed. Ashlyn looked like a little doll when they brought her into the room in her pretty long white dress. Not many dry eyes. I'm very sure Mom was there and it felt so good to feel her near. What a blessing the restored Gospel is.

Image Paul and Marisa treated the WHOLE family to a delicious all you can eat lunch at Barro's Pizza afterward. It was great because we were in the back room with all the toys and tv's for little kids so everyone was entertained, full, and had a great time celebrating our new addition, Ashlyn :)

Proud Parents

Image
This is a post for me to get to brag a little on our BriAnne. She has such a driven spirit and loves to achieve new and exciting goals, she gets this from her Daddy for sure. She started her own Mary Kay business a few months back and is doing so well. This is a picture of her being recognized for her outstanding achievements at the annual Mary Kay convention in Dallas. Way to go Bri!! You look beautiful. "Anything you can conceive and believe, you can achieve". (the first picture is Bri and a friend at the recognition dinner)Image

"TINT MY RIDE"

Image Westin decided he'd like tint on his truck but didn't want to pay someone to do it. So he went and bought the tint, hired some cheap labor (me...very cheap), and went to it.
Image We actually had a really fun time doing it, even though it was really hot in our garage.

Image
My very important job was to spray water continuously while Westin cut and squeegied, sometimes I "accidentally" sprayed my boss!

Image
This is the trickiest part of my job, pulling the tint away from the sticky backing all the while spraying it to keep it wet, whew!!

Image
It turned out really good too! We thought we should think about starting a little business...check out our video below :)

Our little "commercial" :)

July Fun

Image Kelsey and Dallas at the parade in St. Johns for the 24th of July Celebration.
Image We went to St. Johns and the Whiting Homestead this past weekend for the 24th of July and a Benson Reunion. This picture is of Rob and me and Westin with my Grandma and Grandpa DeSpain at the parade in St. Johns.

Image Westin and his girlie friends, lovin' summer!

Father's Day Suit/Missionaries

Image Rob got this beautiful new suit for Father's Day- it was long overdue. He looked so handsome! Rob is a loving, involved, fun, and endearing father. He loves to be "in the know" with all the kids activities and their lives. He makes EVERYTHING fun and memorable. When we get together as a family and remnisce about old times, there are always lots of fun Dad stories. I am so thankful we found eachother 27 years ago! :)

Image
Sister DeMille and Sister Dudley have been serving in our ward and this is Sister Dudley's last Sunday here before she goes home to Michigan. We are fortunate to have them in our home alot because of Rob's calling in our ward and I have had the fun experience of teaching with them many times. They are very dedicated and such a joy. We will miss you Sis. Dudley.

Lake Pleasant

Image Yesterday Pat and Amy Shipp took us out on their boat to Lake Pleasant. We played all day and then at night they had their huge Fireworks show. We just anchored the boat near the dam and watched it. It was so nice and cool and it looked like a little city on the water from all the boat lights. It was the most fun we've ever had watching Fireworks on the 4th (well the 3rd). Thanks Shipps!

My Dad

This is my Terrific Dad with me on Father's Day. He is sitting in "his chair". For as long as I can remember, he's had "his chair". My sisters Kim, Denise, Katy, and I would spend many Father's Days and Birthdays rubbing Dad's feet and his neck and head redeeming "coupons" we'd given him. Dad is a wonderful example of steadiness...in life, in parenting, in the Gospel. He has always taught me to shoot for the best because he always told me I could make it. He's lonely now without my sweet Mom. Nearly everyday she would share "his chair" with him and watch tv or just snuggle-my Mom is tiny :) Now that she's gone we are trying to take good care of him and keep him happy with foot rubs, neck and head rubs and lots of pies. I love this good man.

Westin's New Adventure!

Image Westin is thinking he'd like to be a helicopter pilot! So, of course, Rob jumped right on it and found out what needed to be done to get started. He arranged for Wes and the flight instructor to have a test flight and see if Westin likes it and if he has a knack for it. Westin did amazing. The instructor told Rob that he's never had a better first flight with anyone- no surprise to me- Westin is great at this kind of thing. Guess all those years of riding quads and motorcycles are coming in handy. Good Job Wes! Westin thought it was fantastic :)
Image

Yikes, I can't believe he actually went up in this little thing!
