I'm back. I think.

BREAKFAST 10-2 Restaurant quality French toast.

10-1 Dried basil mini-tortellini w/ crimini mushrooms and parmesan cheese. Green salad.

10-2 Quesadilla w/ fresh mozzarella; homegrown red and yellow cherry tomatoes. Mexican chocolate for dessert. I had the emergency dinner yesterday. So today was the emergency emergency.

10-3 FT beef shawarma and sarmas, my green salad and pilaf. Paklava for dessert.

10-4 Juarez. The Cinco: cheese enchilada and chile relleno, rice and beans. And Jamaica.

10-5 Spinach and eggs; leftover pilaf.

10-6 Top sirloin sauteed in olive oil and white wine; romanesca cauliflower w/ vinegar and oil; Yukon Gold potatoes boiled, w/ olive oil, peeled because they were looking a little green.

10-7 Lentils w/ parsley, rosemary, lemon peel, onion, carrots, and chicken broth, w/ garlic yogurt, olive oil and lemon juice on top; naan w/ butter. This was all fantastic.

10-8 Egg noodles w/ crimini mushrooms, purple onion and parsley cooked in olive oil and sherry, w/ parmesan cheese.

10-9 Top sirloin w/ wine and olive oil; romanesca cauliflower w/ wine vinegar and olive oil; (peeled) boiled Yukon Golds w/ olive oil (the skins looked a little green).

10-10 Riverview lunch. I had the fried clams. Mom had chicken strips, with kind of a rerun at dinner of chicken, fries, and some added parsley and I think some other vegetable.

10-11 Juarez. We had the beef taquito dinner.

10-12 Falafel town wraps-- I had a falafel wrap, Mom had a beef shawarma wrap.

10-13 Sliced cold (Riverview) chicken strips, yellow corn, spinach, fried sweet potatoes and onions.

10-14 Beef shawarma w/ onions and zucchini (not nearly as good as peppers); pilaf (regular Mahatma rice).

10-15 Sawadee Thai dinner. Fantastic. Beef pho, pad thai, vegetable spring rolls, beef satay.

10=16 Quesadilla w/ rotisserie chicken and queso fresco (on a Juarez tortilla); homegrown red and yellow cherry tomatoes.

10-17 Spaghetti w/ Mezzetta roasted garlic sauce and parmesan cheese, romanesca cauliflower w/ vinegar and oil.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape Some serious enabling, all around.

Kedi Wonderful. I finally just ordered it.

Splash I'd never seen it. Pretty good, kind of stock; Daryl Hannah made the movie. I think they could have made her mermaid body a little more attractive-- what was with the giant red tail? She looked like a salmon.

Doc Martin This was NICE Doc Martin.

Doc Martin and The Legend of the Cloutie Still nice Doc Martin, but kind of stupid and amoral and clichéd and slow-paced and a little boring. But still ok.

Moonstruck Can there be a more perfect movie? I could watch it a hundred times. I have watched it a hundred times.

Heidi Looked like a good cast, but was pretty uninspiring. Heidi herself was just, not, Heidi, and rather stilted. A head the size of a basketball, and do you think they could give her a decent haircut? Obnoxious, intrusive score. I love this story, but this definitely wasn't it.

Desert Dancer Ayiiii, this went from clumsy and mediocre, but marginally worth watching because of the subject matter, to a skin-crawling final scene where I actually WANTED them to beat him up again and put him in prison forever. It didn't even make sense-- like, he defects onstage in Paris, and nobody else gets in any trouble? like the guy who gave him his forged passport, or the entire theater company who knew he wasn't who he said he was?

The dance scene in the desert though was kind of moving. But that's it. And I thought it was going to be about kids secretly learning hip-hop or something, so at least it had slightly more substance. But not much. Go watch a real Persian film.

The Ten Commandments Because it's there.

BREAKFAST 4-4 WWbran buttermilk pancakes w/ maple syrup. Those were Mom's; mine were made w/ sour milk and vinegar. Hers were better; she thought they were fantastic. 4-7 Cream scones. 4-13 Cream scones. 4-21 WWbran buttermilk pancakes w/ maple syrup. 4-28 White flour pancakes (with malt powder) and maple syrup. They had baking powder AND an egg, for once, but they weren't fluffy. Good, but not fluffy; have to work on that.

DESSERT 4-8 White pudding w/ almond extract and rosewater-- delicious. Used cornstarch. 4-15 Chocolate fudge. 4-17 Penuche.

4-1 Chicken breast w/ red peppers, onions, oranges, black olives, honey spices and a little wine (mmmmmm); boiled Yukon Gold potatoes; homegrown arugula salad w/ walnuts.

4-2 Eggs w/ kale and onions; Raley's baguette and butter.

4-3 ZamZam shish kebab sliced, w/ onions, red peppers, coriander, cumin, sumac, oranges, prunes, honey and red wine. Pilaf.

4-4 Fusilli w/ butter, onion powder and romano cheese; kale w/ olive oil. Mom thought it was really good.

4-5 ZamZam falafel w/ tomatoes and parsley, ZamZam white sauce and my yogurt sauce. Unfortunately they were really HOT, although good.

4-6 Angel hair w/ yellow onions, fresh oregano, chopped tomato, olive oil and parsley (added at the end),and romano cheese. This came out delicious: I didn't overcook the angel hair, and I forgot to add the pine nuts I meant to, but in the end was glad I didn't. If I manage to actually grow some tomatoes, it will be wonderful with something that has even more flavor (this was a store "on the vine" tomato-- serviceable, but not that flavorful).

4-7 Quesadillas w/ homemade WW tortillas (they came out dry for some reason! Usually they're perfect. Still tasted good.), queso fresco, olives, parsley, mesquite turkey, chili powder and onion powder, tomato. Very good.

4-8 ZamZam chicken kebabs, couscous w/ onion powder and butter, chard w/ butter.

4-10 Omelet w/ chard and onions; Raley's baguette and olive oil.

4-11 Split pea soup (onions, carrot greens, homegrown mint, homegrown sage, coriander, carrots, split peas veg/pasta stock). Those damn 25 pounds of split peas that Nomi bought and were old/dried. They don't cook properly; I cold-soaked them w/ baking soda, but apparently you need to hot-soak them that way. Finally used the hand blender-- that worked, but then it was Andersen-style. Homemade white bread w/ butter.

4-12 Juarez. The Cinco. I gave her the chicken enchidlada and some rice; I had the chile relleno etc. Root beer, split.

4-13 Ditalini w/ fontina, onion powder and romano. Broccoli w/ lemon and butter.

4-14 Tortilla soup (onions, chard leaves and stems, broccoli stock, a whole can of chicken broth, tomato paste, a little red wine, Juarez chips, queso fresco, and sour cream). It was quite delicious, actually.

4-15 White mushroom and red pepper omelet. Homemade herb bread (white flour; homegrown sage, oregano and rosemary; chopped onion-- excellent).

4-16 Giant quesadilla (Juarez tortilla, olive oil, Yukon Gold potatoes, yellow onion, fresh mozzarella, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes; sour cream and Cholula sauce); lima beans w/ olive oil and chili powder. Delicious.

4-17 Chicken (flour, salt, onion powder); broccoli (vinegar, oil, onion powder); buttermilk biscuits; milk and Worcestershire sauce gravy in the pan-- pretty good.

4-18 Fusilli w/ Mezzetta wild mushroom sauce and white mushrooms; sliced broccoli stems aauteed in olive oil.

4-19 White bean soup (homegrown sage, homegrown oregano, tiny bit of real onion, onion powder, garlic powder, broccoli stems, red pepper, carrots, corn, YG potato, white beans, a little white wine, cream, pasta and vegetable stocks--I mashed it a little). Good.

4-20 ZamZam chicken kebabs w/ onions, pilaf w/ pasta stock, cumin and onion powder, ZZ baba ghannouj and pita; paklava. Everything was excellent tonight.

4-21 (Easter) Brisket w/ caramelized onions; red potatoes; salad. At Naomi's of course.

4-22 ZamZam chicken kebabs sliced w/ red peppers, yellow onions, spices and white wine; pilaf (leftover-- still good!); zucchini sauteed in olive oil.

4-23 (Leftover) brisket and onions, boiled sweet potatoes w/ butter, lacinado kale (or laocoon, or whatever).

4-24 Campanelle (?) w/ butter, garlic powder and parmesan cheese, asparagus sauteed in olive oil-- so good.

4-25 Easter Egg egg salad (sour cream (I went back and forth on the slightly expired mayonnaise, finally tried this-- it was good!), onion powder, black olives, salt and pepper and paprika and in mine, expired mustard), homemade white bread, carrot salad.

4-26 Naomi's pork chilaquiles, or whatever it was, and flour tortillas.

4-27 Quesadillas w/ fresh mozzarella, onions, and zucchini, and a little Cholula sauce.

4-28 Naomi's pork again, and flour tortillas.

4-29 Mini-ravioli w/ butter, garlic powder and parmesan; zucchini and onions sauteed in olive oil; lacinado kale w/ butter.

4-30 Egg salad w/ olives, parsley, onion, mayonnaise and homemade sage-onion-cheese bread. The last of the Easter eggs :(
rebec: (Default)
The Passion of Bernadette Always up for Bernadette, and I like Sydney Penney. Like to see the first one where she learned the lines phonetically.

306 Hollywood Was this a movie? A POV. It was awful-- really bad. If their grandmother was still alive, she'd kill herself.

The Great Alone about Lance Mackey. Good.

About A Boy wonderful

Notting Hill Please. I like Hugh Grant, but this was Hugh Grant playing a bad imitation of Hugh Grant. With the added irritation of Julia Roberts.

Song of the Sea Quite lovely; a little boring.

Ali's Wedding really good

Jane Eyre The old one. Good, but they sure made free with the classics, back in the day.

rebec: (Default)
BREAKFAST 3-5 WWbran pancakes w/ maple syrup. 3-14 WW pancakes w/ maple syrup. 3-17 Toaster over Irish soda breads w/ golden raisins, walnuts, coriander AND cardamom. Not like in the real oven but pretty good. 3-21 WWbran buttermilk pancakes w/ maple syrup. 3-23 WW pancakes w/ brown sugar syrup. Not quite as good as before; the half and half wasn't sour enough to use baking soda. But good enough. 3-25 Becky's Highland Oat Cakes-- this was the evil twin version. It's official: sour milk or cream from refrigerator is not enough to raise baking soda.

DESSERT 3-25 Vanilla brown sugar pudding. I used the leftover brown sugar syrup from Sunday: it was delicious. 3-28 Halva. I didn't have enough of the Mideast semolina left, so I used part einkorn flour: the texture was very chewy, possibly also because I've started beating it more to make it set up. It was interesting, and good, but I still like all semolina best. 3-29 Candied orange peel, and orange fondant. This is the third batch I've made. Really mad because I forgot to try cream of tartar in the fondant.

3-31 Fresh mozzarella slices, Raley's baguette slices w/ olive oil; homegrown arugula salad w/ walnuts, apples, and honey vinaigrette.

3-30 ZamZam shish kebab; ZamZam leftover baba ghnnouj and Raley's baguette slices; kale w/ tomato and onions; ZamZam paklava.

3-29 Super burrito (carnitas) from Guadalajara. Good, nice fresh ingredients, overpriced, served in a stupid paper-lined basket, what a mess. Mom tried to eat the paper. Not worth ditching Three Marias or Juarez.

3-28 Red lentils (w/ onions, cumin, turmeric, chard stems, carrots, cauliflower, chard stock and white wine) over rice, w/ yogurt sauce and homegrown mint.

3-27 French bread w/ olive oil, melted mozzarella, black olives and tomato paste (Mom had the Raley's baguette; I had the leftover Riverview bread). Homegrown arugula salad w/ walnuts and honey vinaigrette.

3-26 An omelet. ANOTHER OMELET. Maybe we'll just have them every night. Tomatoes, onions, queso fresco. Fried boiled potatoes (leftover, obviously) w/ green Tabasco.

3-25 ZamZam chicken kebabs sliced w/ onions, spices, oranges, honey, a little wine, pine nuts-- great; leftover cous cous; ZamZam baba ghannouj and pita; chard w/ olive oil.

3-24 Ravioli and vegetable soup (leftover mini-ravioli, onion, homegrown oregano and sage, carrots, cauliflower, assorted vegetable broths, pasta broth, chicken broth and leftover corned beef broth, a little wine, romano cheese). Could have been a little more rich/complex, but it was pretty darned good.

3-23 ZamZam chicken kebabs, baba ghannouj and pita; couscous w/ pistachios; chard w/ tomatoes and olive oil.

3-22 Omelet w/ sun-dried tomatoes, queso fresco and a little chili powder; homemade WWwhite tortillas w/ butter.

3-21 Mini-ravioli w/ butter, (too much) garlic powder, cream, and romano cheese; homegrown arugula salad w/ opal apples and walnuts, honey vinaigrette.

3-20 Leftover from Riverview: Mom had turkey and bacon from her club sandwich, and onion bagel w/ butter, and carrot-apple salad; I had scallops, the French roll, and carrot-apple salad.

3-19 More corned beef, cabbage, Yukon Gold potatoes boiled by me.

3-18 Bacon, fried Yukon Gold potatoes, fried apples and onions. FRIED FRIED FRIED.

3-17 Corned beef and cabbage, carrots and potatoes. Made by Nomi, obviously.

3-16 Minestrone. My version. At one point I thought it was going to be horrible, but it turned out great. (Onion, bay leaf, homegrown oregano, homegrown rosemary, carrots, frozen peas, leftover sweet potatoes, cauliflower, kale, kidney beans, dittalini, frozen veg stock (next time unfreeze it first-- it took FOREVER to melt), pasta broth, garlic powder, a little white wine. Romano cheese on top.)

3-15 Mom had a fried egg and fried sweet potatoes. I had a fried egg and a leftover pancake. Not the greatest dinner, but we had a great lunch (switched-up baleadas).

3-14 Angel hair w/ butter, garlic powder and romano cheese; homegrown arugula salad w/ Opal apples, walnuts, and honey vinaigrette.

3-13 Baleadas! ( the Rod Dreher template: homemade refried beans (light red kidney beans), Trader Joe's flour tortillas, scrambled eggs, queso fresco, sour cream and avocado because Georgía said so)-- plain but really good.

3-12 Vegetable cream soup (kale, carrots, onions, homegrown sage, crimini mushrooms, light vegetable stock and cream, blended-- mild but very good); baguette and butter.

3-11 Rotisserie turkey w/ a little white sauce; boiled sweet potatoes; frozen corn.

3-10 Kale and eggs, w/ onions and a little romano cheese; baguette and butter.

3-9 Rotisserie turkey and red bell peppers; Yukon Gold potatoes.

3-8 Farfalle w/ butter and romano cheese; crimini mushrooms w/ white wine and a little garlic powder; homegrown arugula salad w/ walnuts and honey vinaigrette.

3-7 ZamZam shish kebab sliced by me and sauteed w/ their onions and peppers, cumin and little red wine; pilaf; ZZ baba ghannouj

3-6 Manicotti (made by Naomi); rainbow chard w/ olive oil.

3-5 South North pan-fried noodle chow mein.

3-4 South North wonton soup and broccoli beef, plus my rice.

3-3 Floured fried chicken; mashed potatoes; mashed rutabaga.

3-2 Juarez! We had a dinner with a chili relleno and a tamale. Nice Lady substituted it for the enchilada on the cinco.

3-1 Quesadillas (homemade WW tortillas and queso fresco)...

We're not watching too many movies any more. She's disconnected almost completely, at least a lot of the time, and she's suddenly forgotten what television is. But every once in a while she pays some attention to one.

We watched "Song of Bernadette" on February 11. I completely forgot I'd bought the DVD on a super sale before she went into the hospital. She did respond a bit to this one.

Also watched "To Sir With Love" for old times sake. They took me to see it in '68, or maybe '69. And we watched "Everything Is Illuminated," which I love so much; she paid attention to that one. I think slow pacing makes a difference, even more than before.

BREAKFAST 2-5 Corn fritters w/ maple syrup. 2-14 Oat flour pancakes w/ cherry jam syrup. 2-17 WWbran pancakes w/ maple syrup-- she ate 14 of them. 2-21 Uh, Becky's Highland Oat Cakes. 2-24 Becky's New and Improved Highland Oat Cakes-- OMG.

2-28 Black beans (homegrown sage, oregano, cumin, allspice, paprika, onions, bacon, carrots, beans, vegetable stock-- it started as soup, and could have been, but I decided to save the soup phase for next time-- really good) and (long grain) rice.

2-27 Macaroni and cheese (little macaronis, grated fontina and cheddar, onion powder, a little pasta broth-- honestly, this was great, about as good as any of the more elaborate methods); homegrown arugula salad w/ honey vinaigrette.

2-26 Turkey quesadillas (mesquite turkey, queso fresco, green olives, homemade WW tortillas).

2-25 Kale, onions, romano cheese w/ eggs, Raley's baguette and butter.

2-24 Steak w/ white mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce, Yukon Gold potatoes and butter, carrots w/ butter and dill.

2-23 Broccoli w/ lemon butter and beautiful long noodles w/ butter and romano cheese (from Naomi; Mom had a sandwich for lunch).

2-22 WWtortillas (homemade, but fast-tracked) quesadillas w/ queso fresco, green olives and sun-dried tomatoes; afterwards a little fruit plate w/ raisins, dried figs and pears.

2-21 Kale and fontina omelet; (Raley's baguette) French bread and butter.

2-20 Red lentil and rice soup (carrots, fresh parsley, onions, thyme, cumin, turmeric, red lentils, long grain rice (leftover). Water. I didn't have any veg. stock unfortunately. It was pretty good though. Barely qualified as soup, but I say it did.) w/ yogurt.

2-19 Pork chow mein from Wong's. We also had egg rolls, but I ate both of them, because they were awful.

2-18 Roxanne's chicken and rice (white mushrooms, onions, dill, savory, fresh parsley, shredded chicken, milk, cream, half and half, paprika); long grain rice; broccoli.

2-17 Farfalle w/ minced onions, white mushrooms, a little garlic powder, broccoli and pine nuts, and romano cheese. I made it very plain, but it was good.

2-16 A matzo ball soup rerun. Fabulous except for this rancid matzo meal: Manischewitz, I'm coming for you.

2-15 Virginia ham, creamed corn, chard, fried Yukon Gold potatoes.

2-14 Matzo ball soup (onions, homegrown sage, fresh parsley, carrots, chard stems, white mushrooms, vegetable stock, chicken broth and of course matzo balls, a la me).

2-13 Rotisserie chicken w/ milk gravy; chard; sweet potatoes (boiled).

2-12 Pork chow mein from LT drive-in. I added tofu to mine, gave her most of the pork.

2-11 Quesadillas (flour tortillas, queso fresco, green olives and sun-dried tomatoes); homegrown arugula salad w/ honey vinaigrette.

2-10 Chinese food from Lone Tree Drive In: Won ton soup, broccoli beef, Silver Pearl rice (made by me, obviously). We saved the chow mein for later.

2-9 Fried eggs, buttermilk biscuits, sliced pears.

2-8 Some kind of turkey, cheese and tomato sandwich that Nomi got from Raley's. They left off the jalapenos so it was pretty boring. Chicken broth and vegetable stock w/ string beans. It was one of our worst dinners, but adequate.

2-7 Chicken w/ Worcestershire sauce and crimini mushrooms; Yukon Gold potatoes and butter; homegrown arugula salad w/ walnuts.

2-6 Green beans and onions w/ eggs; homemade White/WW bread and butter.

2-1 Quesadillas w/ queso fresco and sundried tomatoes; avocadoes.

2018-- not quite complete

10-1 Curious George Really beautifully done characters/animation. But even this had to have endless slapstick chase scenes etc.: nothing escapes it. Loved the ship "H.A. Rey."

10-2 Return of the King Run, Shadowfax, show us the meaning of haste.

10-5 Eyyvah Eyyvah 3 I don't know what happened to Eyyvah Eyyvah 2, but we really enjoyed this one.

10-6 Star Trek: First Contact Zefrem Cochrane is just stupid in this. We tried to watch Insurrection too, but we were too tired.

10-7 Halloweentown YAY.

10-13 Young Frankenstein I love it so.

10-14 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

10-27 Close Encounters of the Third Kind

7-1 My Life As A Zucchini Beautiful.

7-2 Beynelmilel Like a stab in the heart.

7-3? Novitiate (just me) A piece of utter trash.

7-6 Good Ol' Freda Awesome. Really beautiful.

7-7 Surfwise Fascinating. Horrifying in a lot of ways. Really riveting and well done.

7-14 Lars and the Real Girl Unbelievably good. So glad I finally saw it.

7-17 Sense and Sensibility Again. Because as often as it comes on, I'll watch it.

7-19 Star Trek Beyond This cast is so great.

7-21 Arrival Aliens sure love Montana. Wow! This was amazing. And it had Amy Adams. And it was a Ted Chiang story.

7-22 The Little Hours Weird; funny. Fred Armisen is always funny.

7-23 Eyyvah Eyyvah We really liked this one. Not deep, but endearing.

7-25 The Last Jedi Heartrending to watch; pretty good; I think it could have been a lot better. We need you! Grrr I'm not coming. You're our last hope! No go away. Really. The whole movie.

7-30 Ekşi Elmalar This one was really good. Quite beautiful and interesting to look at, scenes of traditional life, another idiot demonic father, great cast and story.

7-31 We were 2/3 of the way through Barbershop when it just cut off; no matter how many times I restarted it, it cut off at the same point. Because Comcast produces nothing but junk on every level, all the time.

BREAKFAST 7-2 WW bran biscuits. 7-22 Chapatis? not really; I snuck in some olive oil and they were made w/ spelt flour. But they were good. 7-28 Khorasan chapatis. Tolerable. But so far that flour is not best for anything.

DESSERT 7-1 Chocalate white chocolate chip cookies. 7-2 Raspberry meringues. 7-5 Ice cream w/ chocolate malt sauce. It's a work in progress. 7-16 Rhubarb shortcake. 7-19 Vanilla ice cream w/ homemade chocolate sauce. 7-23 Chocolate/white chocolate chip cookies. Doubled, with a whole egg. Very good, but spread out like crazy. 7-31 Chocolate/white chocolate chip cookies, whole egg, 3 trays this time.

7-1 Quesadilla (3 Marias tortillas, ranchero cheese); Juarez salsa for Mom, Juarez green sauce for me, sour cream).

7-2 Juarez tamale, redux. Green salad w/ green olives and parsley.

7-3 Shish kebab, yalanchis. ZamZam, obviously.

7-4 We split a Cali Club sandwich at Denny's. Pathetic. And they forgot the bacon.

7-5 Chicken (floured and fried); fresh white corn off the cob w/ butter; green beans w/ rice vinegar.

7-6 Shish kebab (leftover) sauteed w/ cumin, coriander, vidalia onions and red wine; couscous w/ dried parsley and pistachios; green salad w/ green olives.

7-7 Egg noodles w/ Raley's marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. I can't afford the good sauce any more-- they never put it on sale. Green salad.

7-8 Fried rice w/ egg and vegetables (brown rice, vidalia onions, green beans, carrots, red pepper, cashews). I'm really not able to make it restaurant style, but it was good.

7-9 Tortilla soup (pasta broth, vidalia onions, green beans, red peppers, chicken, Juarez chips, panela cheese... I did it ♫♪ my way).

7-10 ZamZam shish kebab, couscous, green salad, paklava.

7-11 Chicken (the last of my famous boiled chicken) in white sauce, lima beans, corn off the cob w/ butter.

7-12 Leftover shish kebab w/ vidalia onions and red peppers, eggplant (just for me), bulghur.

7-13 Mesquite turkey sandwiches (French bread, avocado, turkey, lettuce and tomatoes).

7-14 Juarez chile verde dinner (rice and beans).

7-15 WW spaghetti w/ Raley's marinara sauce; green salad w/ walnuts and olives.

7-16 Salad (red leaf lettuce, mesquite turkey, grated cheddar cheese, avocados, homemade ranch dressing).

7-17 (Leftover) chile verde w/ lime; rice w/ salsa; sliced avocado.

7-18 Semi-composed salad (red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, Yukon gold potatoes, fontina cheese, capers, parsley, mesquite turkey-- yogurt/mayonnaise/olive oil ranch-type dressing). I thought it would be really good, but it was just ok.

7-19 (Leftover) chile verde; frozen corn w/ cholula sauce; (leftover) rice w/ salsa; sliced avocado.

7-20 Potato salad (Yukon golds w/ a mayonnaise/buttermilk dressing); homegrown arugula salad w/ Opal apples and walnuts.

7-21 Mini-raviolis w/ marinara sauce and romano cheese; lima beans w/ vinegar and oil, chopped parsley and a little garlic powder.

7-23 Cheese omelet (panela cheese) and 3 Marias salsa; boiled Yukon Gold potatoes; green salad.

7-24 Turkey sandwiches (Raley's French, mesquite turkey, lettuce, tomatoes). Root beer floats.

7-25 Tortilla soup (potato broth and a little potato, vidalia onions, chili powder, red wine, tomato paste, a bit of tomato, 3 Marias tortilla chips) w/ a bit of fresh mozzarella. Good but not great. Lettuce leaves w/ a little rice vinegar.

7-26 More turkey sandwiches. It's too hot to cook! Mesquite turkey, lettuce, tomato, on sesame kaiser rolls.

7-27 Angel hair w/ dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds and homegrown sage. Green salad.

7-28 Lentils (vidalia onion, homegrown oregano, cumin, carrots-- delicious) w/ yogurt sauce, lemon and olive oil; green salad.

7-29 Three Marias. Chicken mole dinner. Exceptionally salty, for some reason.

7-30 ZamZam shish kebab, sauteed yellow squash and delicious caramelized purple onions, sliced homegrown (Mick's, not mine) tomatoes w/ vinegar and oil, paklava.

7-31 (Leftover) chicken mole, 3 Marias flour tortillas, green salad, sliced homegrown (Mick's)tomatoes w/ vinegar and oil.

6-2 The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Nice Australian locations. Reeked of despair.

6-3 Sideways My God, what a bunch of lying sociopathic pathetic losers. Sickening.

6-5 Sense and Sensibility I could watch it forever.

6-6 Hükümet Kadın 2 Apparently Turkish sequels are as bad as all other sequels. Waste of a good cast.

6-8 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Great if you're seventeen. Still had its moments; loved Knives Chau.

6-9 Avatar Every movie ends up the same, no matter how it starts. Wack wack wack explode. Nice blue green planet.

6-12 Star Trek III and Star Trek IV Because they were there.

6-15 Dunkirk Two hours of people drowning.

6-16 The Thin Man

6-19 The Von Trapp Family: A Life of Music This was exceptionally good-- I didn't expect it to be that good.

6-22 Frida Beautiful to look at-- would have been entertaining even with the sound off. There was something not quite right about Alfred Molina's performance: every scene he was in ended up sounding... fake? clichéd? I don't know. It was uneven. My favorite part was when she said God had a lot of explaining to do. Because yes. On this we agree. Of course, she's probably going to want to explain about her and Trotsky.

6-24 Moana Just wonderful. We both really enjoyed it.

6-25 Visontele Tuuba I fell asleep and fell asleep and fell asleep dammit. What I saw was pretty good-- it was nice to see Crazy Emin again. Seems to be a basic plot device for these films: send something/someone out to a village where they have no context for the service.

6-30 Seven Brides For Seven Brothers Julie Newmeyer!
