Strawberry and Oatmeal Swirls

Ever since coming back for the holidays i've been going out for breakfast daily. if it's not hakka mee or wantan mee or char koay teow or nasi lemak any other carbo+fat-rich food with my parents, it's dimsum with Sharmaine. very typically Malaysian.

how fattening is that!

therefore today i decided to be HEALTHY and made my own breakfast which i learnt from who else but Nigella Lawson. it's really simple, trust me, ANYONE can do this... unless he/she is intellectually challenged. and it's delicious too =)

Strawberry and Oatmeal Swirls
(it is originally Raspberry and Oatmeal Swirls but i couldn't be bothered to go hunt for raspberries here so i substituted them with strawberries)

Ingredients :

  • 4 tsps icing sugar
Image
  • 250g fresh/frozen strawberries

Image

  • 3 oatmeal biscuits - crushed

Image

  • 500g Greek yoghurt

Instructions :

Image

  • Blend strawberries and sugar. Puree until they make a vibrant pink sauce.
  • Gather 6 glasses (approx. 150ml), spoon 1-2 tsps of strawberry puree into each glass.
  • Then dollop in the glass about a couple of tbsps of yoghurt, then sprinkle on a layer of biscuit crumbs on top of that.
  • Repeat and do 2 layers of each in the glasses.

Final product! Refrigerate for awhile to allow it to chill or you can eat it straightaway.

Healthy and guilt-free!

p/s : i know this is unrelated, but... MUST WATCH : this and then this.

The BORRRRRRRRRRING Red Carpet

I woke up early on the day of this year's Oscars to catch the Red Carpet show only to be disappointed after 2 hours of gluing my eyes to the tv in hopes of being awed by all the glamour.

seriously, WHAT glamour?

the guest list this year was dull! where were the interesting celebrities? where were all the mind-blowing gowns? and what was that annoying kid Miley Cyrus doing there?!

the Award Show itself was even more disappointing than the Red Carpet. i suppose that's why it entered the record books as the least watched Oscar telecast ever. can't blame the viewers, can you? i hadn't even heard of more than half the nominations before the show! besides, like other viewers, i was actually more interested in the Red Carpet... but NO, it had to disenchant us all.

first of all, most of the gowns were unflattering. we saw a lot of the same shade of RED this time. mind you i love red (as most of you should know), and i own a lot of red clothings, but after watching the show i think i will stop wearing red for awhile. it also seemed as though almost everyone came in asymmetrical dresses! i thought that was SO 2 years ago? why are we still seeing the same styles this year? *yawwwwwwwwwwwwn*

boring boring boring. i think most wanted to play it safe to escape criticism. but guess what, there is no such thing as playing it safe in the world of celebrities! safe = boring and boring = criticism. we want to see something different!!! thankfully, there were one or two who left their marks as best dressed.

Image

Anne Hathaway in a red Marchesa gown with rose detailed one-shoulder strap. I think she looked beautiful in this as the red was outstanding against her porcelain skin.

Image

Katherine Heigl in a red silk georgette Escada column gown with one-shoulder design and draped and pleated bodice. gorgeous as always. but again we see RED. ASSYMETRICAL. yawn yawn yawn.

Image

Heidi Klum in a red silk taffeta bustier gown with drape detail by Galliano. many fashion experts thought she looked the best. a majestic outfit indeed but somehow the Queen-Elizabeth-The-First look just didn't get to me.

Image

Miley Cyrus in red (AGAIN) Valentino. she's 15 and this was her first time at the Oscars so she's forgiven. in fact i think she looked really nice and THANK GOD she walked down the red carpet looking exactly her age. elegant, sweet, but still annoying. sorry =P

Image

Amy Adams in Proenza Schouler. urgh. don't like it. don't like the bag. it's like she stole the look off the set of Enchanted.

Image

Cameron Diaz in Dior. i like the dress but she could have done more with her look! hair was messy, as if she just came back from the gym and hopped onto the red carpet without taking a shower. shame! and she could have indulged in some jewellery and makeup at least.

Image

Hilary Swank in a black Versace gown. very dazzling. love her. don't like her hairstyle though.

Image

Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta. i don't like the ruffles at the bottom of the dress. but overall i thought she looked good as compared to most.

Image

Jessica Alba in a plum strapless Marchesa gown accented with feathers and draped empire waistline. it's a pity she's pregnant NOW! would have loved to see her in a gown showing off her curves as she normally does. but she still looks so stunning doesn't she?

Image

Best Actress Marion Cotillard in a Jean Paul Gaultier mermaid-inspired gown. never knew of her existence until the Oscars itself =P at first i was really impressed by her outfit until i saw the SCALES on the gown. gave me the creeps. don't like.

Image

Nicole Kidman in a Balenciaga dress accented with A HUGE CHUNK of L'Wren Scott necklace. WHAT HAPPENED?! she's usually on the best-dressed list at every Red Carpet event but this time around she disappointed all of us. i think the necklace was too much. it looks heavier than a cowbell. so sad, Nicole, so sad!

Image

Tilda Swinton in a black washed silk draped evening gown by Alber Elbaz. HATE THIS. HATE THE HAIR. my vote for worst-dressed. enough said.

unfortunately, my pick for best-dressed wasn't exactly ON the red carpet. she's Giuliana Rancic, Ryan Seacrest's E! co-host. i can't seem to find a picture of her on the net to put it up here but i can tell you i loved her dress. it was violet with a one-shoulder strap made of DIAMONDS. very gorgeous. great job.

Blog-warming

I know I promised never to switch blogs ever again when i moved to Tabulas, but here I am yet again under a new host. What can I say? I make empty promises. There. A lesson for you : never believe anything I say =)

OK just kidding.

There are many reasons for my decision in moving to Blogspot.

  • I desperately needed a break from the TV/staring at the ceiling/The Sims 2! So I decided to redesign my blog. Then I realized I have lost whatever patience I had in working with HTML and Tabulas needed me to work from scratch (with THEIR own specific HTML codes by the way)... hence I thought what better idea than to steeeeeeeeeeal someone's blog template? =) I kid again. This template was provided by pyzam.com. It's free, so yeah it wasn't stolen. It's nice, don't you think? Simple and sweet. And simplicity is bliss.
  • Tabulas doesn't allow categorizing my blog entries. As my blog entries pile up over the years, I thought it would be easier if I were to organize them into categories for future references.
  • Most of my friends use Blogspot. Peer pressure. Tsk.
  • I frequently get weird attention-seeking random people tagging on my tagboard over at Tabulas. They say stupid things like... TAG! Stupid, really. It's a hassle having to keep signing into my Tabulas tagboard to delete the tags, so... screw it once and for all! Here I am with a new blog and a new tagboard. No more weird attention-seeking random people flooding my tagboard with nonsense.

Sooooooooooooo.... yup! New blog! Update your links!
