it's the little things
May. 13th, 2014 08:30 pmIf, like me, you have been mournfully, and with ever escalating levels of rage, searching for blue jeans which are NOT made with the cheap stretchy-flex fit spandex cotton blend that wears out and stretches out and generally makes wearing jeans feel like slopping around wearing badly fitting sweatpants - I have found Real Jeans.
The drawback is that they're a "men's" style (so obviously, they're cheaper, better quality, and readily available. grr.) The plus is that they are 100% cotton, they're $15, and they fit and flatter my belly, hips, and thighs (all curvy) better than any of the various women's jeans I've tried in the last *fifteen years*. And they're from Costco (Kirkland brand). They're made in Mexico, but at least it's closer than China?
I am super happy to have found them, and I may get them tailored a little in the leg, though, since they're a straight cut and shade baggy at the knee. A big part of the fit is that they have a high - think dietrich pantsuit! - waist that doesn't gap, roll, shift, or slack.
It's the little things, but it's amazing how a well fitting garment makes your whole skin fit better.

May. 3rd, 2014 09:56 pmSometimes, grief is like breathing, and breathing, and never being able to fill the empty space in your chest.
Soon, it will be a year, and I'll be able to stop saying "It's the first birthday, holiday, anniversary since." and it won't be so hard. The first time's always the hardest, right?
It's not just that I miss her as my mother, I miss her as my friend.

Apr. 30th, 2014 06:46 pmOh, and also, I saw CA:TWS. Here is my indepth and insightful commentary:
Sebastian Stan. WHAT IS YOUR FACE, I CAN'T EVEN. *INCOHERENT KEYSMASHING*
Ahem.
I liked it. As I said to a friend, how can you not like a movie with a hot, morally ambiguous, emotionally tormented one-armed Russian assassin? NOBODY WHO CAME UP IN FANDOM THRU X-FILES, THAT'S WHO.
Ahem.
I liked it a lot.

Woke this morning suuuuuper crabapple about, oh, a multitude of things. Have full day of meetings, several hours of nitty detail work, work related volunteer event, and planning for another major work related volunteer event this weekend scheduled.
I am going to require ALL THE TEA and a goddamn chocolate doughnut to make this happen, ya'll.

Mar. 27th, 2014 06:37 amffs. Dad left to visit family a couple states over last Sunday, driving. This 'morning' - 12:20am - he texts to say "won't be back this weekend like planned, please let (people we had important plans with) know" AND NOTHING ELSE.
THANKS DAD. NOT THAT I'M GOING TO SPEND ALL DAY WORRYING UNTIL I HEAR FROM YOU OR ANYTHING.
I may have sent a slightly testy text message back at 6am (after my brother's at 5am) expressing 'people assume the worst with messages like that, please text us back you cryptic bastard and reassure us you're not in the hospital'
jfc. I hope it's just that he's staying to help the relative who had surgery, or problems with the car, or something innocuous, but who knows? NOT ME. Gah.

Mar. 21st, 2014 06:46 amOn my French word a day calender, today's word is 'bouger': to move
Today's *phrase* is "Comment veux-tu que je finisse si tu n'arretes pas de bouger?" - How do you want me to finish if you won't stop moving?
...surely I've read that fic somewhere? ;)
dubious etymology note; bouger as root of boogie? My family has always used the term as 'well, we better boogie if we want to get it done'.
