And There They Go...

We had a great summer, lots of playing, family time and friends.  But the time is here for school to start again, so off they go.  Sam is in HIGH SCHOOL!!!  I think I am more worried then him. And Elisabeth is an old pro in 8th grade.  They were too funny taking pictures this morning before their ride came, yup the big senior Blake Harsh is giving them rides, I guess I'm off the hook.Image

Look Who's Driving!

Joe was crazy enough to let Sam drive the Jeep up the road to the canyon.

Grandpa was even crazier and let Sam drive the '66 Mustang around the block 4 times.

Now all the kid wants is to drive!

Wer're Related... Some How...

At the Ree's cousin party Elisabeth made a knew friend, Noah!  They're cousins some how, let's see, both their grandma's are cousins.  Elisabeth's grandma (Penny) is the oldest grandchild and Noah's grandma (Robin) is the youngest Ree's grandchild.

Really cool art done by one of the cousin's kids.  The picture does not do it justice, each tile is made out of clay, long tubes cut into to tiles.  AMAZING!

Noah's grumpy face, but he's not really grumpy!

Look We're Oreos...

Apparently a white belly and tan arms make an Oreo!

Last Stop... Martin's Cove...

While looking at the map coming home I was beside myself when I saw that we would be passing Martin's Cove.  I would love to go to more Church historical sites and couldn't pass up a chance to stop at one.  The couple missionaries asked if we wanted to walk out to the cove, sure we said, then they asked if we wanted to pull a handcart, and I said yes for my family.  We were soon to find out that it was 2 miles out and 2 miles back and that even empty handcarts are heavy!  But a few primary songs and a few grumbles later we made it and we were all glad we had the experience.  Besides it made for tired kids for the rest of the long ride home.

Stop Eight... Lighting of Mount Rushmore...

We returned to Mount Rushmore that evening to watch the lighting. Wow! They had a film about why each President was significant and a talk about patriotism by the Ranger.  They lit the face while they played America the Beautiful and then everyone sang the National Anthem.   My favorite part was after that when they invited all the former and current military members to come to the stage.  A few of them retired the flag and then all 100+ introduced themselves and what branch they served in.   It was a great way to end our trip.
