DOCUMENTED PROOF THAT WE USED TO BE YOUNG!

Image
These are my jewels! How I wish I could hold those little kids again! Kids from left to right - Steven the oldest, Brian the youngest, Michael the third, Kristi the second. They all have kids of their own now. I really DID help produce those little blondies!
I thought dark hair was supposed to dominate.

HOLY HECK! We couldn't possibly be that old!

Image
That's us...we were 'down south' visiting our kids.

Don't make me call for backup!

I wanted to point out to my kids in California that those are REAL San Diego Police shoulder patches! (You can buy ANYTHING on Ebay.) The square badge says DAN (another Ebay purchase), and thanks again to Mike Dan for the use of his Mag Light (at LEAST a foot and a half long) and his handcuffs...I didn't ask.

"This is DEFINITELY a first, ma'am." That's what he said to me!

I dressed as a cop for Halloween and wore my costume to work. I passed our C.E.O. in the hall. I told him that I'd seen him speeding in the parking lot but that I was going to let it slide THIS TIME. He was grateful.

After work I had Mike come with me to the State Police station. I talked this officer into letting me get a picture by his 'vehicle', but he wouldn't let me wear his hat OR hold his gun. Geez! I wasn't going to shoot it.

Teva, Northern Flower tells me you're looking for a Spanish teacher. I'm your man, Teva. I'm your man.

How do I meet this 'Uncle Dave' guy?

Please pass the veggies

Image
Chocolate comes from a plant. Doesn't that make it a VEGETABLE? I believe we're suppossed to have 3-5 servings per day.

Welcome Dave!

Image
I just invited my brother to my blog.
We'll see if he visits. That's him with the Stewart hat on. Also, there's my son Steve. They're good buddies.

Tacky Tacky!

Don't you just hate it when people still have their ornaments up in FEBRUARY! This weekend for sure! No excuses!

The worst has happened...

Image I've had another birthday. This is starting to get out of hand!

Just call me Chloe. I’m a French woman now.

Image
I’ve been reading the book French Women Don’t Get Fat and it confirms what I’ve known all along…that the difference between thin people and round people is not so much about genetics as it is about our attitudes and feelings toward food. I’VE KNOWN THIS! I just didn’t know how to adopt those attitudes. This book reveals all the secrets!

Yesterday someone brought a plate of fudge to work. Fudge has always been a real weakness of mine. And this wasn’t ordinary fudge. No. It was the most delicious fudge I had ever tasted! Yet, I only took one small piece, about 1 inch square. I nibbled on it and savored it all morning long. In fact, I didn’t finish it until 1:00. And although there was plenty more, I never went back. I didn’t need to. What’s more, I didn’t feel the least bit deprived…no, quite the opposite! I felt like I had really indulged myself all morning and that it was PERFECTLY OKAY.

There ARE no forbidden foods! It’s all about portion size, presentation, tricking yourself, compensating, savoring and truly enjoying food. This book has the answers. Yes I know I said that last time but this time I really mean it!

So if the French are a little proud, a little arrogant, I can’t say I blame them. I’m feeling pretty smug myself these days over my new self-mastery!

My first viola lesson!

Image
This is definitely a journal entry day! Just for fun, a friend gave me a viola lesson. It was a little squeaky but I think after only 15 minutes it was clear that I have talent. HaHa!...so full of myself : ) Don't know yet if I'll persue it.

It's our 34th Wedding Anniversary! And trust me, we BOTH deserve medals!

Image
We have this little anniversary day ritual we go through every year. I ask Rusty, "So, are you going to keep me for another year?' And after a thoughtful pause, he answers, "We'll see how it goes." HaHaHa! He likes to play hard to get, but WE BOTH KNOW...

Showing off my quirky new plates!

Image
Yes I know Rusty said I'm not allowed in Pier 1 without a chaperone, but geez! They were having a HALF OFF sale! So that doesn't count, does it?
How could I be expected to walk out of there without a set of those quirky, misshapen plates I've been admiring for so long...the ones with all the darling imperfections? They're not even round! They look like they were made by 5th graders. And really, I've known all along that I'd have them sooner or later...it was only a matter of time.
They came in four vibrant colors. And, well, being a lefty, I didn't feel the need to make everything THE SAME...heck no! So I bought two of each. They coordinate beautifully!
Anyway, it went well. All I had to do was tell Rusty that maybe we didn't need to go to First Night after all. He was a happy man, and my table looks tres chic! Everybody wins!

Okay, here's my mug too.

Image
Bought this from a hippy at a farmer's market. Fell in love with the irregular rim and the handle so out of proportion to the size of the cup. Rusty just rolled his eyes. HaHa! He does that a lot.

The gypsy life for me!

Image
I say we sell everything and live like gypsies! Travel the world on scooters with backpacks on our backs and Viking horns on our helmets!

Of course I'd have to bring along my makeup; a butane curling iron; my MP3 player; pen and paper; and pictures of my beautiful daughter, gorgeous sons and darling grandkids.

I'd also have to have my Bird Watcher's Field Guide, Spanish dictionary, Roadside Geology handbook, and an assortment of pretty shoes (essential!).

I'm not leaving without a tube of lip balm, a few favorite rocks, and my Life Is Good tee-shirt with the moose on it. And I couldn't possibly go without my Bill Nye the Science Guy Way Cool Lab Book of Science that I won on eBay. No.

Lucky for me, Rusty's not going for it.

This week's hobby

Rusty says I start a new hobby every week. I say the man exagerates just a bit. This week I'm taking up blogging so I can say I've done it. Northern Flower is my screen name. I'm anxious to see what happens when someone leaves a comment...so please, someone leave a comment! (Behave yourself Michael Dan)

This will be a great Christmas!

This will be a great Christmas! My daughter Kristi and her family will be coming for a visit. We're hoping for snow...want to make snowmen with the grandkids. Also, we have a new grandson here in Hayden...little Mikey Jr. I love him so much! He's still a newborn so he's still snuggly...I LOVE that stage. I could hold him for hours! And sometimes I do : ) I usually visit him on my way home from work.

Darling Summer and sweet Dustin were also born this year. And Brian and EmaLee are due to have their first (a son) on Christmas day. My vote for his first name - Ericson - because (1) it's her maiden name, (2) both she and Brian are descended from blood thirsty Vikings, and (3) there's just something cool about having a last name as a first name and a first name as a last name...it breaks all the rules but you're still a good citizen.
