Winter is over

 Last week

Yesterday so just one week of a bit winter. In my memory it was a lot longer but I'm not sorry about it. The days when I used to skate are long gone.

Painting winter fun

 This painting from Hendrick Avercamp is from around 1615. You can see it and more of his work in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. He was a specialist in winter scenes. From the 17th century to the 21th century with other means but the same idea the header today. Winter fun.

After five years without snow, we finally had some snowfall this weekend. Well, the whole country has come to a standstill. Only the mailman still came by. No trains, no buses, and no planes. Maybe things will get going again this afternoon. Header: We are another year older, and you can see that on the streets.

A new one

 At the end of the New Foelie street a mural from Nils Westergard, an artist from a small town in Virginia.It depicts a skipper with his pipe who often roamed around here in the past. One for Sami's Colourful World here.

Fantastic winter light

We should take advantage of that. Header the bridge  over the Prinsengracht with al the tourists on it and the Wester church in the back shows how crowded Amsterdam is these days.

 

A walk through the city.

 

Today, I noticed how many dogs are actually transported in bags.

This beautiful white dog named Yuki was standing next to it, but what I hadn't noticed at all was the second dog.

 There's something about that explosion of color when it rains.

 The nice thing about this time of year is that it's already dark when everyone is still working. That makes for nice building photos.

First house in Almere

This house was the first inhabited house in Almere 50 years ago.

Efforts were made to establish a museum house as a memorial to this event, and here we see the initiator, Ans van Berkum, and the mayor, Hein van der Loo, in the house during yesterday's official opening.

A great deal of attention has been paid to the interior design from 1975/1976.

I was also invited to the opening because at the time I was working for architect Joop van Stigt, who had designed these homes and I had drawn up all the plans.

It was a nice reunion.

And on this wall in the living room, there are some old drawings I made and some photos of Joop v Stigt and, to my surprise, one of myself, but that one was only four weeks old... of work 50 years ago.
