Adam and I learned a great lesson on Memorial Day. It didn't have to do with those that serve this country, although we are very greatful to them. It had to do with the LDS Pioneers. Adam's brother invited us to go camping with them and we took them up on it. They bought a camper and wanted to try it out and we would sleep in our tent. However, even though Vernal is warming up, the mountains just above us are not!
The wind was blowing so hard our tent was 5 feet away from where we first laid it out. Then Cheznie was afraid of it because the wind was blowing so hard it was loud and blowing all over. It was too cold to just sit outside so we either sat in the loud tent, the camper, or snuggled by the fire. We should have taken that as a clue and just went home for the night. But instead I got the baby snuggled in warm clothes and thought as soon as we get into the tent and snuggle down for the night it will be fine. I wasn't worried about Chez being too cold because of her layers but we were freezing. After hours of dozing for a few minutes at a time and rearranging blankets a few times. Cheznie woke up because she was uncomfortable (because of all the layers on her she couldn't move) around 2 a.m. and we decided to just head home and come back later in the morning for our stuff. When we got in the truck it said it was 30 degrees.
Now for the lesson: the pioneers did not have the luxury of just jumping into a truck with heaters and driving to somewhere with nice warm beds. I had never thought of the pioneers sleeping before in the wind and the cold. They were probably much more exhausted than us from working and walking all day long but still it is soooo hard to sleep in the cold. And then how hard would it be to get up with a bad nights sleep and then have to keep going. My thoughts were always how hard it would be to have to keep walking and with standing the cold. But to me I think now the bitter cold nights would have been so much worse, than to have to keep going on.
Now on a lighter note here are a few pics of Cheznie's first camping trip
Lots of layers for the cold mountain weather
Adam size fire
Riding the 4wheeler (it was a bit jerky at first so she was a little scared)
Every time we sat down to eat Chez freaked out turns out we are getting more teeth
Flaming Gorge
Funny Brothers
At a look out point, such pretty scenery the other side is all brown and there is a mine
This is not camping obviously but Cheznie has a new dance move and it makes us laugh, not really sure where she got it from. Wait till the end to see it.
