Challenge yourself to apply data science skills to real-world problems, collaborate with like-minded peers, and network with industry professionals.

Event Details:

Any UofT undergraduates! From beginners to experienced data scientists, registration is open to anyone willing to test their skills. Our different award streams will ensure that applicants can be tested fairly across different dimensions.

Event Details:

  • Date: March 1st - 2nd, 2025

  • Venue: Bahen Centre for Information Technology 40 St. George St, Toronto, ON M5S 2E4, Canada

  • Team Size: 4 members (If you sign up with fewer than 4 members, we will randomly assign additional teammates to complete your team.) 

Prizes: Awards will be given to teams that demonstrate outstanding performance in categories such as:

  • Best Visualization

  • Best Business Insight

  • Best Model

Requirements

What to Build

  • Projects can be developed using any programming language.

  • All projects must run successfully on an external computer or PC.

What to Submit

  • Each team may submit only one project by the submission deadline.

  • Submissions must comply with the stated guidelines and align with the themes of the datathon.

  • Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.

  • Required files include source code, a README file, and documentation.

  • Teams must submit a short demo video explaining their project to be eligible for evaluation.

  • Submissions must be uploaded to the designated platform (e.g., GitHub, Devpost).

Language Requirements

  • Submissions must be in English.

  • If any project is developed in a language other than English, a full English translation must be included.

  • Presentations and documentation must also be in English.

Judging Criteria

  • Relevance
    Does the project align with the datathon’s theme? How well does the project address the problem statement?
  • Feasibility
    Can the solution be realistically implemented? Does it require excessive resources or unrealistic assumptions?
  • Creativity
    Is the approach novel compared to existing solutions? Does it offer a fresh way of solving the problem?
  • Code Quality
    Is the code well-structured and readable? Are there appropriate comments and documentation? Does it follow best practices?
  • Executability
    Does the project run successfully without major issues? Is the output meaningful and relevant? Are the results reproducible?
