today was absolutely perfect.
low humidity. sunny and breezy.
perfect for hanging laundry.

this morning we weeded our community garden plot and then walked into town for a croissant

now sausage from the farmers market is browning in the skillet and a cold beer has been poured.
time for some back porch sittin’

how was your day?

after dinner we ate popsicles and jumped rope.
we sang miss mary mack as we jumped.

we’re settled in now and the girls are up getting cold showers before bed.

the crickets are singing and i can hear the neighbor out skateboarding.

my eyes are feeling heavier than usual tonight.

we have 2 huge rhubarb plants at our community plot.
just in time for all of the picnics and parties this weekend.
we made a few strawberry rhubarb crumbles and 3 jugs of rhubarb soda.

it’s a hot one today.
i woke up early to get some garden work done before the heat started to really settle in.
i just came in and was about to turn the radio on when i started to really listen to my surroundings….
the hum of the box fans, the birds, the whirling of the sprinkler and the laughter of the kids running through it, and the clucking of the hens.
yes i think i will keep the radio off and tune in to my own station right here at second and edgemont.

had the pleasure of attending a kinfolk dinner at terrain last night.
it was a beautiful evening meeting new friends and hanging with old friends.
and the food was some of the best seasonal local fare i have ever had.

must go now. chris is shooing me off the computer to tell me all about falling water.

this girl of mine is growing up.
one of her girl scout projects was to make the family dinner last week.
she made a grocery list, collected her own money and off she went to the market alone.
yes i let her walk alone!
it’s only two blocks away and it felt so good to trust that it was all fine.
she was beaming as she walked out the door and beaming even more when she arrived home.
she couldn’t stop telling me how fun it was.
then she prepared and served us a ginger udon soup (her own recipe).

it’s fun watching her grow up and it seems as if she is doing it at just the right pace.

chris is away for a few days as a chaperone for the annual OC teen trip.
yesterday he spent the day here.
yeah i am a bit jealous.
he keeps sending me photos and texts saying how much he wants us all to go back.
he just sent me a text saying “architecture is my new passion.”

the girls and i have a few things planned while he is away but it’s all pretty low key.
our schedules are calming down and that summery relaxed feel is creeping in.

13 years ago on a foggy, balmy, rainy day we married.
i was so excited i forgot to wear makeup.
my mom handed me some lipstick in the limo.
i succeeded in soaking in as much as i could that day.
i danced my heart out. i ate my whole dinner and lots of dessert too.
i savored our cake.
and at the end of the night my cheeks ached from smiling so much.
it was a really good day.
and every day after has been pretty darn good too.
happy anniversary c.
it just keeps getting better.
i love you.

our 5th year going to assateague island.
a tradition.
this year there were 70 of us.
we took over an entire campsite loop.
it was windy and cold but that did not stop little people and big people from going in the water. (i was NOT one of them)
there was much laughter.
the one thing i always look forward to is laughing with my friends.
