Shaevitz Lab @ Princeton

Welcome to the Shaevitz Lab at Princeton University

The Shaevitz Lab studies how living systems turn physical interactions into organized behavior. We ask how bacterial cells build, move, and sense their surroundings; how groups of cells coordinate to create large-scale patterns; and how animals transform neural activity, body mechanics, and sensory information into behavior. To answer these questions, we combine quantitative experiments, custom instrumentation, advanced imaging, computer vision, machine learning, and physical theory.

Four papers already for 2025!

Congrats to Matt, Grace, Diana, and Endao, who had papers published/accepted in Nature Physics, PLoS Computational Biology, PNAS, and Nature Communications! See our Publications page to read more!!

A big congratulations to Grace for landing a faculty position at Wesleyan

We are so proud of Grace McKenzie-Smith for landing an Assistant Professorship at Wesleyan University. A great institution to carry out her fascinating work on animal behavior.
