ubuweb is back – fighting with us

UBUWEB

February 1, 2025

A year ago, we decided to shutter UbuWeb. Not really shutter it, per se, but instead to consider it complete. After nearly 30 years, it felt right. But now, with the political changes in America and elseawhere around the world, we have decided to restart our archiving and regrow Ubu. In a moment when our collective memory is being systematically eradicated, archiving reemerges as a strong form of resistance, a way of preserving crucial, subversive, and marginalized forms of expression. We encourage you to do the same. All rivers lead to the same ocean: find your form of resistance, no matter how small, and go hard. It’s now or never. Together we can prevent the annihilation of the memory of the world.

today’s the last day for submitting to “the art of memory”

Archivio Aperto 2024 – The Art of Memory – Call for entries. Deadline July 20th

Archivio Aperto is the festival dedicated to the rediscovery of small-format film heritage – private, amateur, experimental, artist’s cinema – and their reuse, organised by Home Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia.

Now in its 17th edition, the festival has since 2022 had a competitive section dedicated to documentary and experimental works that focus on the reuse of archives and family memories. This is accompanied by an extensive programme of festivals, meetings, workshops, live performances, and installations on the theme of memory, micro-history, autobiographical narration, family archives and small communities, where the interweaving of individual stories and public history is most dense. A true archive laboratory in motion, Archivio Aperto is the most important event in Italy for viewing, educating and reflecting on the public use of private memories.

The 17th edition of Archivio Aperto is called The Art of Memory and it will take place from October 24 to 27, 2024 in Bologna (Italy).

CALL FOR FILMS – The competition of the 17th edition of Archivio Aperto is open to films of any genre – found–footage, documentary, experimental, video-essay, crossing over into fiction and animated cinema – on any medium and of any length, that focus on the memory and the archive, through the re-use of images and research that narrates the interweaving of individual stories and public history.

Submit your film via FilmFreeway until 20th July 2024

skin, names, memories. the legacy of palestine / mg. 2023

Look at this video:

https://www.threads.net/@bad_pooky/post/C1Zlu9ouo6G/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

1) Palestinian people sometimes give their children the names of cities and places stolen by the israelis.

2) Many Palestinians in Gaza, now, under the israeli bombardments, write the names of their children on their arms or legs, in order to recognize them in case they would be disfigured by the israeli weapons and bombs.

3) The zionist government tries to translate or turn the names of Palestinian places into hebrew, in street signs and on maps. They want to cancel even the linguistic memory of parts of the Palestinian homeland.

The zionists believe in maps, in written rules (racist rules), mad bureaucracy, illegal walls and gates suffocating the actual life of a whole population in the West Bank too.

This population, the Palestinians, in Gaza, write their names and words and sentences on the body of their beloved ones: they preserve their memory not through paper or (unjust) laws, signals, barriers and hate signs, but with the very existence of their bodies, despite of individual deaths and the whole genocidal praxis they are forced to face.

Skin, names, memories. Thanks to these doors Palestine will live and will pass on its values and light.

(To all the Jew true friends, truly suffering for what’s going on in Palestine: don’t these written names remind you the numbers on the forearms of people in concentration camps?)
