ILYICH ILYICH is a musician and artist from Kherson, Ukraine. In live performance, from solo to ensemble, and vinyl releases, ILYICH’s work is grounded in jazz, electronics, and spoken word traditions, with a focus on listening. It takes shape in radio, scoring and theatre through performances, installations and commissions. After seeking asylum in Germany in 2000, the middle name Ilyich was erased during the migration process and later reclaimed. Spanning sonic experimentation and genre-based forms, ILYICH works through intention, agency and listening within a practice they call 'Sonic Antifascism'. Their work continues to unfold in multiple contexts, from documenta14 to Roskilde Festival and Sophiensæle, with broadcasts from Lot Radio to BBC 6 Music. On Refuge Worldwide, ILYICH hosts Listening Hymns, a performative spoken word archive and live series. They founded Grounded Outer Space People, a nomadic music ensemble and artist residency working between cities through site specific collaborations.
