This last June (Yes, that said last June...I am a little behind on my blogging) we took a trip to Wallowa Lake in Oregon. Danny and I stopped here on our way to our honeymoon...many, many years ago, but we hadn't been back since. It is a gorgeous place and we were excited to take the kids. Danny remembered going here as a boy and loved all the fun things they had to do. He had some vacation time to use up so we took a little trip up north. (I warn you now....I took tons of pictures!) It was SO beautiful!
The city of Joseph is just up the road and is just as cute as can be! They received some sort of grant that helped them improve their city and they did a great job. There are beautiful flower boxes and awesome statues all over town. We spent one of our first mornings in town. It was a fun place to explore.
The town was nice. They even made empty lots into garden spots...
And outdoor eating areas.
I loved the mountains! The town has quite a backdrop!!!!
As we headed into town one morning we stopped at a historical site. The kids enjoyed running up the hills that the indians once lived on.
We also stopped to visit Old Chief Joseph's grave.
There were pretty wildflowers all over. When I spotted a whole meadow of these periwinkle beauties I made Danny pull over so I could snap a few shots of them. (By the end of the trip each time I said, "Hey...." He would follow up with an "I know, I know...you want me to pull over.") :o)
We were so excited to see some deer when we got into camp....Only to figure out that we would end up see ing a LOT of deer. You actually can get a fine if you are caught feeding them. They are so comfortable around campers that they are trying to keep them out of the campground.
Our first couple of days we had foggy weather, but it cleared up nicely by the end of our trip. :o)
The kids had fun throwing rocks in the lake.
And playing in the meadows...and hiking up the trails to find "vampire bears". (Something Jamey made up.)
There was even a big playground right in the middle of camp.
There are quite a few things that you can do right near the campground. We wanted to ride the tram up the mountain, but decided we could fit in more things if we skipped that one. So first went to drive the go karts.
Next we went to the arcade and mini golf place.
I spotted this little birdie taking a shower in the waterfall.
Danny...hiding from me...at our campsite near the lake.
We enjoyed all the animals we go to see on our trip. Even these cute chipmunks.
They were pretty friendly. Danny got one to eat right out of his hand.
And of course the deer were fun. They were all over. These two came into camp and decided to stay a while.
The kids loved going down by the lake. Here's Kaylee...writing in the sand.
Danny bought a little raft for them to float around in. They thought this was cool...even though they were only barely off shore.
We had quite a lot of fun. Josh decided not to come "camping" with us and stayed at his grandparent's house. We'll have to take another trip here soon and drag him along. I think he will enjoy it just as much as we did!
