Weekend Recs: Foxtrot, Lucifer, NCIS, The Old Guard
Hi, folks. Sorry I forgot about last weekend. I've been absolutely riveted by a 300+ page Old Guard story. But I can't just read it, oh no! I'm absolutely compelled to pretty it up with fancy divider bars, add pictures of all the foods mentioned (each of which has to be searched, selected, cleaned, and cut for the page), and edit the SPaG -- which is actually pretty good. But some common writing habits irritate me, and things I can ignore in an average-length story really start to grate after 50 or 60 pages. <shrug> The things we do for fandom.
Also, Cindy is slowly but surely dragging me into Lucifer fandom. Every visit, we watch an episode or two, then read a fic or two -- in between chatting and just plain visiting, of course. I'm not feeling super fannish about the show, but I figure it's just a matter of time; it's cute and fun, and I can definitely see the draw. (*rolls eyes* Like I need another fandom to follow.) When I asked for recs a couple of weeks ago,
But before I get to the fic recs, how about a comics rec, passed on from

Summary: Lucifer pulls Chloe away from packing and treats her to a good time on All Hallow's Eve.
Reccer's Notes: Lucifer wants Chloe to share his enjoyment of the best holiday of the year -- Halloween. Chloe is much too busy at home... so he kidnaps her for what turns out to be a day of pampering and (part of) an evening at LUX. Marvelously in character for both Lucifer and Chloe, with Lucifer being his usual arrogant 'I know best' self -- but all in the service of his detective. And Chloe accepts because... well, really, who can resist a force of nature? I smiled and chuckled the whole way through; totally engaging and satisfying.

Summary: A murder case. The team undercover. DiNozzo posing as a womanizer wasn't that much of a stretch, but what's with Palmer and pickles? McGee's in charge of the op and he'd better be right, or Gibbs will kill him because FLET-C never prepared them for this.
Reccer's Notes: As far as they can tell, the killer is hiding within the venue of the annual Renaissance Fair -- and the only way to get in without raising suspicion would be as participants, before it opens to the general public. Fortunately, Tim has a years-long, established persona, as well as a variety of costumes for the others and the necessary information the team needs to learn to be accepted as realistic in their roles -- although not necessarily the roles they'd play if they had a choice. With the help of his sister and Ducky, the whole team is able to infiltrate the ground in search of the killer.
This is my favorite kind of NCIS team fic -- everyone working well together with a minimum of canon-style snarking and all supporting each other 100%. Bonus -- Tim gets to shine instead of being a secondary character as in some stories. This story is a lot of fun, with a good helping of action and h/c along the way.

Summary: In Apartment 3B, Joe pulled back the final concealing layer, revealing at last the contents of the mysterious box. Wreathed in a froth of crinkled black tissue paper was a box, emblazoned in white with the words, Anal Massage and Education Kit. “Huh.” Joe flipped the box over and read the information on the back. “I definitely didn’t order this.”
One floor up, in Apartment 4B, Nicky opened up the new message on his phone to find a “delivered” notification text, despite there being no package in sight.
Reccer's Notes: Rocky beginnings -- the setup and first few meetings are total crack, as in, 'What can go wrong will go wrong'. But soon enough the unfortunate first impressions change to mutual attraction, then a 'one-time' hookup to 'get it out of their system', and then much more. Nicky is awkward, Joe self-confident and and caring enough to help him in his journey of discovery, and together they find more than either expected. Just a fun, delicious -- and hot! -- story.
