The Moore You Know

Day to Day with the Moore Family

In Our House!!! January 26, 2011

We have moved into our house, actually we’ve been here since last Thursday.  But… you know.  Actually we still don’t really have internet.  Currently I’m streaming off of my parents’ so I have to sit right next to the window with the computer facing just the right way and then I get a slight signal.  So there won’t be any pictures yet because our Mac can’t be moved, thus no internet.

We love our new house.  We have almost everything put away, yay (though my Kitchenaide is still MIA, AHHHH!)   The kids are loving having all their toys back and having a space that is all their own.  Lance and I like having a room that no one has to go through.  (To get to the playroom at my parents’ house the kids had to go through our bedroom.)

Though, I have to say a huge thank you to my parents for being such hospitable hosts.  Bringing four kids into a home can be quite a disaster and my parents took it in strides and still love us!  The kids miss having them around all the time, luckily they’re less than a minute away.  I miss having my parents around the house too.  It was so nice to be able to go places while Rory was taking a nap.  I could leave Dax and Rory at the house while I went and picked up the boys from school.  So thank you Mom and Dad, you guys are awesome, and we love you!

The Woman With Nine Lives January 22, 2011

“I’m going to fight it.”  That is what my Grandma told me so many times over the years.  And fight she really did!  Whether it was her battle with Lupus or Lymphoma, she did everything she could to make sure she was here with her family.  Though, early Thursday morning, she lost the battle.

She was a wonderful Grandma.  When I was younger I remember her and my Grandpa picking my sister and I up once a week to take us out to dinner for Chinese food or Mexican food.  We would go swimming all the time at their community pool.  They owned a cabin up in Northern Arizona, at Mormon Lake and we would escape up there as often as we possibly could.  She loved card games and taught my sister and I how to play and whenever we had a chance we’d set up a game of Skip-Bo.  She loved the holidays.  But first and foremost always, she loved her family!  She had her “girls,” my mom, my sister and me.  And the four of us would have our days out of shopping and lunch.  Those were perfect days.  But lately she’s loved her great grandkids.  She always wanted to know how they were doing, hear their latest exploits.  She stayed here just long enough that she was able to hold all her great grandkids, which truly meant the world to her.

Even though she was ready to go, it doesn’t make her passing any easier for us that miss her already.  Grandma, we love you and we’ll see you again!

The Small Green Egg January 19, 2011

This gave “Green Eggs and Ham” a whole new meaning to me.  Who would of thought that there were chickens that actually lay green eggs.  The rooster we used to have was a “rare breed,” but we never knew for sure what species he was.  But now we have two hens from him and one of them is laying green eggs.  It’s cool, weird and maybe a little unsettling.  : )

Just in Case I Need a Reminder January 15, 2011

I want this to go down on the books, I want to be reminded of this in a few years.  I can’t wait until the kids want to sleep.  I don’t care if they want to be lazy teenagers and sleep until noon.  I feel like I’ve not gotten a good nights sleep in about seven years.  Okay, I know that’s an exaggeration, there’s been days mingled in there some where, but nothing that I can remember today.  : )  Lance and I were talking this morning at 6am, thank you Rory and Dax, and I’ve made my decision, I will not complain when my kids want to sleep in on the weekends.  I will enjoy it!

Last night as I was laying in bed I realized I never wrote anything about Dax’s birthday.  We celebrated Dax’s birthday this year but it didn’t go according to plan.  Right around my birthday everyone started getting sick.  He was feeling better by his big day, but unfortunately I wasn’t.  I had this awesome pirate cake planned but I couldn’t do it.  So Lance went and found an ice cream cake.  Unfortunately, his cousins couldn’t come over because we didn’t want to spread germs so it was just a family affair.  Dax is a happy go lucky guy so he was excited about what we could do.  But next year I owe him big time.

Dax is a kid that is always really eager to learn.  Early on in his third year he got really excited and wanted to learn how to write his name.  Lately though he’s been obsessed with letter sounds and spelling.  He knows almost all his letter sounds.  I can’t count the number of times a day he asks me how to spell something.  Just yesterday he sounded out “cat” and spelled it for himself.  He loves preschool and can’t wait to go to the elementary school with his older brothers.

He’s always saying he’s older than he is.  He knows he’s four but always tries to say he’s older so that he can do more things.  (That is except when it’s time to put socks on!)  He loves playing with his older brothers.  And for the most part the three of the play really well together.  He loves to make his sister laugh.  If he gets her to laugh he’ll sit in front of her and do the exact same thing to keep her laughing.

He loves to copy phrases.  So things are, “so cool,” and “awesome.”  But his favorite lately has been, “bootay.”  We’re working on when it’s appropriate to talk about someone’s “bootay.”

He loves pancakes and would eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

He’s ornery and likes to talk back but he’s also completely sweet and loves hugs and kisses.  He still loves to cuddle up with me.  He’s become my best pal over the last couple of years as I’ve dragged him around doing errands and watching Backyardigans and Spongebob when I busy around the house.

We love our little guy so much!

Eleven Years! January 7, 2011

Not many things can trump celebrating eleven years of marriage (I love you honey!) but I found one this morning in a very round about way.  I got a call from Dish Network this morning saying that we need to update our address in their system.  I said well, we’re not really going to have a good address for a couple more weeks.  And he said there was someone wanting to use our address at 1803 Oak Drive.  Then an alarm went off in my head!  Oh my gosh, we’ve got squatters.  So I said no the house is vacant there shouldn’t be anyone there that would need service.  Then he said that “Timothy” is renting the house as of today and wants TV.  I put the DN person on hold and call our property manager.  He said, that they’re doing some final paperwork but that everything was good for move in.  I decided to ignore the fact that this was the first I’d heard of it because OUR HOUSE WAS RENTED!  I call Lance all excited and he said,”how did you find out?”  So I explained the DN phone call.  He’s known for a while now and was saving it as a big surprise for dinner tonight.  I can’t even get mad about being out of the loop.  I have a permanent smile for today, we rented out our house!!!!!!!!

And a Happy New Year! January 5, 2011

I hope our year isn’t going to continue the way it started off.  We have all been sick over here.  No fun!  If it ended with the virus I’d better be able to deal with it, but it never does, it goes to ears and breathing.  But since my hope is that the year is going to get better, I’m going to talk about a funny Xander moment.

We got our first request for a cell phone the other day in the car.  Yes, six years old!  Xander said that if we gave him a cell phone he’d be able to call me after school so that he can go over to a friend’s house.  Does he even know my cell phone number?  “No, but we can put it in the phone for him.”  I thought it was crazy that at the beginning of the year one of the rules the kids brought home from school was that they weren’t allowed to have cell phones on at school and if they bring them then they need to stay in their backpacks.  While I don’t know if any first graders do, I’ve heard other moms talk about how their older kids (still in elementary school) have cell phones.  CRAZY!
