She Might Be Cute But She’s Still Two February 28, 2011

Rory is our little sweetheart.  She’s been a pretty easy baby.  She’s content just hanging out, she never felt the need to be demanding.  Until two…  Rory has lulled us into a sense of security and now the gloves are off.  : )  Okay, it’s not that bad, but I can definitely tell she’s turned two.  She’s now very vocal in what she wants and we know when she doesn’t get what she wants.  She’s officially started throwing fits.  She’s started talking a little more (thank you tubes!) and she is constantly making noise.  Sometimes it’s words but for the most parts she just walks around pretending to talk.  I guess there was really no hope in the quiet category with her brothers the way they are.  But a girl could always hope.

It Will Go By So Quickly Though! February 22, 2011

People tell me all the time, “Enjoy the kids when they’re at this age because it goes by so quickly.”  I’ve never really felt it, until recently.  Knowing that Rory is my last child I sit back a little more and enjoy the moments.  So much of the boys’ early childhood was so busy.  When the boys were to an age that they could take care of themselves a little more, I had Dax.  When Dax was to an age he could start taking care of himself a little, I had Rory.  But just the other day I was looking at Rory when she was doing something ornery and thought “Wow when did she get so big (and ornery!)”  Then I looked around to my boys who truly are getting big, reading, playing together, listening, getting a conscience.  That’s when I finally knew what the people meant, time does go quickly.  I don’t have any babies anymore.

They Can Hear! February 14, 2011

Dax and Rory are home from getting tubes in their ears this morning and they are both doing great!  Dax was my super trooper this morning.  Last time when he came out of surgery he was screaming.  This time I saw him and his chin quivered a little bit, he felt a little “dizzy” but then he was completely fine.  Rory was a trooper too.  She definitely wasn’t screaming, just kind of fussy.  The surgical center was nice, they gave each of the kids a teddy bear and popsicles at the end.  Dax’s ear was completely full of fluid so now that it’s out he’s already hearing a lot better.  Rory had two ear infections and hers was full as well.  So here’s hoping these tubes will be our last.

Not to be Left Out February 11, 2011

These last few months have been months of ear infections.  Between Rory and Dax we have about two infections a month.  So when we decided to get Dax tubes, we decided we should get them for Rory too.  She always has fluid in her ears, which means it’s just a matter of time until an infection develops (and as our ENT always said, “No fluid is good.”  We got her an appointment for the same morning as Dax.  Come Monday morning I expect there will be a couple of kids in our house that will finally be able to hear well again.

Rory turned into a toddler yesterday.  Well, she’s been acting like one for a while, but now it’s official.  We celebrated with my parents and Sam and her kids.  Rory probably thought it was a pretty crazy, fun, day with people singing to her all day and getting new baby dolls.  And any excuse for cake and ice cream…

She has a very happy personality.  Her new favorite thing is table dancing she gets up there as often as she can and laughs and laughs until I get her down.  She loves music, her favorite song to be sung to is “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.”  It never gets old to her.  She loves to spin and dance about the room.  She’s starting to talk more, but wouldn’t call her a talker.  She’s still pretty easy going.  She doesn’t care what I put on her and most of the time she’ll still be happy to come up and cuddle with me.  (Though I see that ending soon.)  She loves to play baby.  She has baby dolls but anything can be a baby: soap, a box, itouch, a pen.  All you have to do is put it on your shoulder and pat and there’s your baby.  It is so cute.

She is such a light in our home.  We love her so much.

What Did You Say? February 3, 2011

Dax has been having a hard time hearing lately.  He is asking me to repeat things all the time.  I’m not a new mom to four year olds, I know their “I can’t hear you” games.  But I would cover my mouth so that he couldn’t see my mouth moving and asking him if he wanted a cookies.  And he wouldn’t respond at all.  He’s had a few ear infections over the last few months (both tubes have fallen out.)  I took him into his Pediatrician and he had double ear infection and she said that his eardrums were really bulging.  So I took him to the ENT yesterday and we’re working toward another set of tubes for him.  It won’t be a Happy Valentine’s Day for him.  Poor guy.

That’s Not What Happens February 2, 2011

My boys play well together, most of the time.  The twins almost all of the time and when Dax is involved it about 60, 40.  But when they fight they fight about their imagination.  They pretend to be super heroes, their stuffed animals turn into Mario character, Pokemon characters, etc.  They are just always using their imagination.  So this is what I hear all the time, “No, I was talking!  The elephant didn’t do that.  The elephant went across the room.”  Or yesterday Xander came downstairs all upset that Chiler wouldn’t let the Zsu Zsu pet “fly” across the room to save another animal.  I’m not even sure how I’m supposed to police this, I’ve been working on them taking turns on who gets to pick what they play, but I’m not sure I can tell the other boys what they can pretend.
