The Moore You Know

Day to Day with the Moore Family

Livin’ La Vida Loca April 26, 2011

When I wrote the last post I thought well I’ve already talked about Lance and I’s song, “Fools Rush In.”  But I just remembered the song that was Lance when we dated and got married and that was Ricky Martin’s “La Vida Loca.”  He knew all the words and had dance moves to go along with it!  He dance it for me at our wedding.  Now that I’m thinking of it I should try and locate that footage and if I do, you’ll see it!

Music for the Ages

Filed under: Uncategorized — Stephanie @ 8:24 am

I’ve written before how I love music though I’m no musician.  When I hear songs I think of certain people or events that have happened in my life.  I love it because I’m constantly reminded of all the people that I love.  Hearing Goo Goo Dolls I automatically think of Erin and driving around campus our first semester of college.  Lindsey, there are so many songs because she loves music but anytime I hear show tunes or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, I think of her.  My friend Whitney I will always think about when I hear the Faith Hill song, “This Kiss,” which she blasted while driving her brown pick up truck. My parents, it’s 70’s music we used to listen to the car, Fleetwood Mac, America, Beach Boys, and Elton John.  My Grandma and Grandpa driving to Mormon Lake, KT Lang.  Recently, my niece Kelly and “Little Lion Man.”  Emma, and in turn Alicia, “Pocket Full of Sunshine.”  Kiersten, “For Good.” Tara, soundtrack of “About a Boy.”  I’ve shared so much music with my sister but the song that I will always treasure with her is “More than Words,” which we sang karaoke when we were at a water park when we were visiting Utah as kids.  And with the loss of my grandparents this past year when I hear the song, “Slipped Away,” I think of them. Sometimes without crying.  : )

Just recently I heard a song that in 16 years I’m going to start playing for my boys because I love the message it’s “Sigh No More” by Mumford and Sons.  It has a slow beginning but in an age when boys are taught that marriage and women hold them back and are a “ball and chain.”  They need to know that women really help complete them.  Here are the lyrics that I love.

Love, it will not betray you
Dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be
There is a design, an alignment, a cry
Of my heart to see,
The beauty of love as it was made to be

The second I heard it, I thought of my boys.  That some day they are going to be men.  I hope they can love and appreciate the women they bring into their lives.

If you want to hear the song, it’s below.  It does have a very slow beginning.

Happy Easter! April 25, 2011

We had a really fun Easter this year.  And to make everything completely wonderful, none of us were sick!!!  Yay!

We celebrated our secular Easter all on Saturday.  The boys got their Easter baskets, went on a couple of Egg Hunts and ate lots and lots of candy!  Does life truly get any better than that for a few young kids?  Why yes it can!  My parents neighbor put up a zip line in their backyard and so the boys got to go down it.  That was the first thing the boys talked about Sunday morning.  They wanted to go there and go down the zip line again.

Sunday we had dinner over at my parents house, went ziplining next door, played Xbox 360 Kinect (which Xander is sure we need now!) and spent time with family.

And to top all the fun off Erin (Hardy) Mindes was up in Utah for the weekend so we went out to dinner as couples and she brought her family over the next day to see the farm.

It was a great weekend.  And no Easter is complete without remembering what it’s all about.  That we have a loving brother in Jesus Christ!  That He not only died for us but he’s paved the way for us all to live with our families and Heavenly Father forever.  It’s just so wonderful!

Farm Fresh Rooster April 19, 2011

Last Sunday we ate our first farm fresh chicken (actually it was a rooster.)  I had to not think about how I saw this rooster from the time the hen started brooding, to the day it was hatched, and all throughout getting tail feathers and cockadoodle dooing.  The rooster started getting mean so we knew it was time.  My mom and I couldn’t quite dealing with the slaughter or defeathering yet.  Though I worked with the chicken while it was still on the bone.  Which is a huge step for me!  The meat was great and it was awesome knowing they were hormone/drug free.  We knew what the chickens have eaten and how they were treated and they had a great life, until…

While we were in Phoenix we had Rachel give Rory her first hair cut.  We didn’t want anything drastic, just even it up a little in the back.  I’ve been nervous about taking her anywhere because she hates when I do her hair and definitely doesn’t like to sit still for any length of time.  So having Rachel do it at Grandma’s house was perfect!  We turned on a cartoon she liked and kept her distracted. And all in all I don’t think Rachel had too hard of a time and it turned out super cute!

He Scored!!! April 14, 2011

Last fall Lance coached Dax at soccer and Dax wanted to be there, but really it was mainly for the snacks.  But lately he’s been loving to kick the ball around and play with his brothers and just enjoying playing more.  So Dax started playing soccer on Tuesday night and Lance really wanted to go because but just didn’t feel up to it.  Right before I left he said, “I’m going to miss him scoring his first goal.”  I thought his expectations might of been too high.  But they weren’t.  Dax got right into the game.  He went after the ball and he scored 3 goals (and 1 for the other team!)  After every goal he came up to me and gave me a big hug and kiss, he was soooo excited.

Here’s a picture of Dax enjoying what USED TO BE his favorite part of soccer.  Now it’s scoring goals!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. We are finally starting to see the end of the tunnel. I went to the doctor on Monday and he did a strep test but he said since I don’t have tonsils it’s a lot harder to see Strep. So he sent it to the lab and the next day we found out the three of us have Strep Throat. Lance and I can’t remember when we have been this sick. My poor kids have had this a few times since we’ve been here. I will definitely have a lot more empathy for them next time. Everytime Xander is sick and takes a nap I always take a picture because it never happens otherwise. So here’s my pic from Tuesday.  My poor little boy!

So my goal for today: Disinfect my house!

When the Kids Rule the Roost April 12, 2011

I started running a high fever on Saturday evening.  I was just down for the count.  I don’t think a million dollars would be able to get me out of bed.  Then Sunday evening Lance came down with a high fever.  Four young kids and two sick parents that really doesn’t make for a good combination.  The kids got cereal for dinner (not that they minded,) they got to play Wii games as much as they want, we kept a steady stream of TV that kept them occupied, the dishes, and household duties were left totally undone.  It’s not been a good sight.  My mom came by yesterday just before I was headed to the doctor and saw that the kids were truly survival of the fittest and saw Lance dead asleep on our bed and thought it would be best to take Rory with her while I was going to be out of the house.  I was hoping I was nearing the end but I still woke up the morning with 101.8 degree fever.  And poor Xander came down with it too yesterday he’s so sick for the last two days I can’t even get him to get off a bed or couch.  Anyone that knows Xander’s energy knows how sick he must truly be!

This is for Kelly! April 7, 2011

We’ve spent the last week in hot, hot Phoenix.  We couldn’t believe it when we looked up the weather before we left it was almost going to hit 100 degrees when we were there.  It’s only March.  But I have to say, it was a nice break from the rainy, cold weather in Utah.  The boys were so excited because they got to wear shorts.  That was one of the first things they would tell people.

We stayed with Lance’s parents and Rachel and her kids were there and our neice Kelly.  We ate tons of good Mexican food, always a requirement, played with cousins, enjoyed the warm weather, played with the eight week old cute chihuahuas, went swimming for a few seconds (water was still cold,) and had a lot of fun.

What really brought us down was the stupid stomach flu… again.  Luckily, the twins can make it to the toilet most of the time.   I couldn’t believe it when Chiler started throwing up.  We got one week off.

I’ll post a few more pictures later, but the one that is here I took with my phone so it was a lot easier to get.  Right now I’m going to go cuddle with my tired two year old and spend time with our neice Kelly who travelled up to Utah with us.  She’s going to be to BYU in the Fall and is playing Rugby there.  So she’s here to meet the coach.  We’re excited to watch her games, though I might be watching through my fingers.  : )
