My Grandpa came for a couple of weeks and we had fun.  One day Chili’s had free kids meals so we braved a restaurant visit with my sister and her four kids, my mom, grandpa and me and my four kids.  We thought we were crazy for going but we actually had fun and the kids behaved!  It’s nice as the kids keep getting a little older to see what new things we can do.

Book Festival November 13, 2011

Myself and Ally Condie!

This past month I’ve been missing Maryland.  I’ve been missing all of the many things to see.  I miss being able to take a couple hour car ride and be able to see some really neat historic site.  Or going to DC for some fun event.  I miss all my girlfriends out there, you ladies are awesome!  I’ve just been antsy!

So I’ve been looking for something fun to do and I came across the St. George Book Festival.  Ally Condie, a YA writer for the Matched series was going to be there for a lecture and book signing.  And to top it off you could purchase her new book a few days early.  I asked a couple of girls here, last minute if they wanted to take a road trip with me but they were busy and I was kind of bummed.  But Thursday night Lance said, “You should just go.”  I’ll be honest, I’m not a person that does things by myself but the more I thought about, the more excited I got.  So I did it!  I got in the car, drove the four plus hours, and stayed at my friend Kristee’s guest house.  (Thank you so much Kristee!!!  It was so dang cute!) When I got to the book festival it’s like a little slice of Heaven.  All these people together celebrating books!  It was so fun!  Though I have to say this festival skewed toward older people.

The Matched series is a New York Times bestseller so I thought that there would be tons of people there.  But it was actually really small.  There were probably only thirty people there for her lecture so it made for a nice intimate discussion and she was so dang genuine, nice and real.  She talked about what inspired the series and the character and answered questions about the publication process.

After the lecture she signed books and took pictures.  It was great.  One of the things that drew me to the series was the characters’ names, Ky and Xander,my twins’ names (with my Ky spelled, Chi.)  Again, she was so nice!

It was exactly what I needed for my antsy little self.

We had a great Halloween this year.  The weather was beautiful!  We were able to comfortably do trick or treating.  It was amazing!  This year Chiler dressed up as a Storm Trooper.  My Aunt Sandy recently went to China and sent the kids back an outfit and Xander and Dax wore those.  (They are so beautiful, thank you Sandy!!!)  And Rory was our Cowgirl princess.  Though after putting her in pigtails I see Pippy Longstocking in our future.  It was a great evening and we love our little neighborhood!
