Susan Boyle dreams her dream

A lot of people would always say that, “Life begins at Forty.” However, some people stops dreaming at age 40. They just work, whine, relax and whine. Not Susan Boyle. At age 47, she confesses that she’s neve been kissed and is only living alone with her cat named Pebbles. Despite that, she never stopped dreaming. At age 47, she even had the guts to join a big competition called Britain’s Got Talent. Admittedly, when I read the story at Y! Buzz, I thought it was another case of the usual American Idol hopefuls who are not afraid neither ashamed of exposing themselves on TV. These are the ones who are usually mocked by thousands of people.

Amazingly, like the judges (especially Simon Cowell) and the rest of Britain’s Got Talent audiences, I was surprised. Totally surprised. Watching Susan Boyle’s video would make you realize two things: 1. That it is certainly wrong to judge people by their looks. 2. And that no one is  too old to dream one’s dream. Marriage: A life filled with beautiful imperfections

A close friend gave me a link to a video that dramatically changed my perspective in marriage. As a wife for almost four years, I would oftentimes complain about the imperfections of my husband and our not-so-perfect married life contrary to what others think. However, like everyone would say, there aren’t any perfect individuals neither perfect marriages.

Watching this video made me think twice and reflected on my imperfections as well. Truth is, I felt guilty watching this TV commercial. I know that like my husband, I have a lot of imperfections too. And these imperfections somehow made us unique, reason enough why we are now together living an imperfect life and trying to make things perfect.

Watch this TV commercial and learn more about marriage and family. Now is the time for you to embrace your beloved husband/wife and realize how beautifully imperfect he/she is.

Exciting and inexpensive ways to spend Summer in the Philippines Part 1

It’s summertime once again! Filipinos and tourists alike flock to different places in the Philippines for a short vacation. 4. Subic Adventure.
If you’re looking for some real adventure, Subic is the place to be. The Subic Bay Freeport opens its jungle to the public and named it as Zoobic Safari for a one of a kind exotic wildlife experience with tigers and other animals. The tiger habitat experience is the most awaited and exciting activity because it allows guests to get close to the tigers through an enclosed jeepney that enters into a tiger habitat. Feeding tigers are also allowed but you have to pay an additional Php150 (about $3.13) for the chicken. Aside from tigers, Zoobic Safari also features snakes, lizards, crocodile and other animals for viewing. A day tour costs Php2,000 ($41.67). If you’re tired of the jungle experience, take a swim and interact with friendly dolphins at the Ocean Adventure. 5. Reflecting in Sagada. Going to Sagada will take you about 12hrs long drive. There are three options to choose from. You can either take the Manila-Baguio-Sagada, Manila-Banaue-Sagada or Manila-Bontoc-Sagada route. Fares range from Php680-800/pax ($14.16-$16.66) while  guided tour rates depend on the type of package that you would choose. Packages include cave connection (Lumiang to Sumaguing cave), basic caving in Sumaguing Cave, trekking in Bomod-ok falls or Mt. Ampacao, or trekking in Mt. Polis, sight seeing and rock climbing. Accommodation would cost between Php200-250/night which is only about $4-5. A trip to Sagada can be tiring but it’s all worth it. Once you’re there, you’ll realize that the journey is more like a soul spa experience. For more rates and packages, visit Sagada online.

Boyet Fajardo’s camp has an appalling video response

Amidst the controversial discrimination of a fashion designer Boyet Fajardo (who is he again?) over an employee of Duty Free Philippines held recently, one irresponsible man posted a rather ridiculous video. Obviously, the nutty individual came from the fashion designer’s camp hoping he could somehow save the designer from a mere embarrassment that drove the entire Filipinos mad.

Meanwhile, here’s the video of what really happened. For those who didn’t know the real story(yet).

Will Abu Sayyaf release Red Cross hostages?

It has been more than two months since the abduction of three voluntary workers of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) by the Abu Sayyaf group in Mindanao, Philippines. The said group was fierce to behead one of the hostages if government troops will withdraw from their operations saying that they also want to resolve this amicably (did I hear it right? Abu Sayyaf wants what?)

DILG Secretary Puno said that it was decided yesterday during a meeting with Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Armed Forces Chief Gen. Alexander Yano, Philippine National Police Chief Director General Jesus Versoza and Sulu Gov. Sakur Tan that government troops will pull back from a jungle area in Indanan, Sulu today. It was also said that this will lead the way to a no-beheading and release of one of the three Red Cross captives.

I certainly hope that Abu Sayyaf group is serious in resolving this issue in an amicable manner. Like millions of people praying, I also pray for the immediate release of the 3 victims Filipina Mary Jean Lacaba, Swiss Andreas Notter and Italian Eugenio Vagni. Meanwhile, a prayer rally will occur today at the Plaza Miranda for the protection and release of the Red Cross workers.

The Graduates of Year 2009: What’s in store for them?

Many years ago, I composed a poem specifically for students– especially the slackers type. Back then, I had a group of students in mind. Although I must admit that the first part of the stanza is about “yours truly.” Here’s the Filipino version of the said poem.

lakwatsa do’n, lakwatsa dito…
Absences hindi mabilang, tunay na nakahihibang!
Kodigong inihanda, sa quiz na nakatakda
minsang nakatsamba, salamat at pumasa.
Ako’y isang estudyante, nungit maraming nagtataka
Estudyante nga ba? Tanong ng iba.

Baon nauubos, sa yosing nauupos
tambay sa bilyaran, talo sa pustahan
kasama ang barkada, diretso sa Ayala
Labasan alas-singko, umuwi ng alas dose
Buhay Estudyante, Iskul Bukol ang dating
Ako’y isang estudyante, nungit maraming nagtataka
Estudyante nga ba? Tanong ng iba.

Itong estudyante, nagpipilit mag aral
gawaing pangongopya, ngayo’y wala na
Hindi na tsamba, salamat at pumapasa
dala ng tiyaga at pag aaral nya
Ako’y isang estudyante, nungit marami na ang nagtataka
Estudyante nga ba? Estudyanteng talaga
Kayo, estudante nga ba?

Na-drop sa subject, itong estudyanteng pa-intellect
problema sa bahay, kawawa ang nanay
Bagsak sa Chem, uulitin next sem
Itong estudyante, wala sa sarili
Ako’y isang estudyante, nungit maraming nagtataka
Estudyante nga ba? Tanong ng iba.

More than 10 years had passed and with that, our economic situation is now in deep slumber. Companies are closing down and lay-offs are now an option. And what does this mean to a fresh graduate? Sometimes I wonder, does a College diploma nowadays still matters? Is there a bright future for our College graduates? What do you think?

Pacquiao back to Solar Sports. What about GMA 7?

With Manny Pacquiao’s decision to ditch Solar Sports and sign up with ABS CBN, and finally to go back to Solar Sports again because of a lawsuit in the offing. Especially when Solar Sports president William Tieng, chief operating officer Peter Chanliong and lawyer Enrique dela Cruz flew to the U.S. to a private conversation with the Filipino Champ.

Solar Sports lawyer later released a formal announcement saying that Pacquiao is acknowledging the contract and has no intention to work with other media partners for the exclusive coverage of the Hatton-Pacquiao fight. Since the contract with Solar ends 2011. With this, Pacquiao apologized to everyone for the confusion and although he’s not admitting it, he appeared to be quite indecisive at this point in his life. Perhaps, he just got into a sticky situation because of other people’s influence on him.

Now that ABS CBN is out of the picture, Hatton-Pacquiao fight will now be seen at GMA 7 since they had previous talks with Solar Sports. If you can recall, the only reason how GMA 7 got the exclusivity to air the Dela Hoya-Pacquiao fight was when the said network bought rights from Solar Sports. And as we all know, Solar Sports and ABS CBN got into a disagreement before when ABS CBN decided to exclude Solar’s cable channels from Sky Cable.

Pacquiao is trying to distant himself from the media especially ABS CBN. Even Diane Castillejo, who always get exclusive interviews with the Pound for Pound king, couldn’t get anything from him. His bodyguards are always on the way. Well, this is also a good move to help him focus on his up and coming fight.

Moral lesson: Wag pacquiao-in lahat. Do not be greedy. Hehe. 🙂

Nasty Drawings… NOT!

I found this video while searching for some sketches of makeups that I need to add to a bunch of cosmetics articles that I’m doing. I thought they were nasty but they turned out great. The artist indeed has a creative mind. It’s just so amazing how he can do such art. It looks offensive in the beginning but he has turned it into a fab piece of art. I wonder how he does that.

Manny Pacquiao chooses ABS-CBN (Is it all about the money?)

Pacquiao chooses ABS-CBN over GMA 7

Pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao anounced this evening that he just reunited with ABS-CBN by formally inking a deal with the said TV network. He also announced that Hatton-Pacquiao fight slated May 2, 2009 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas will be exclusively aired on a delayed telecast via ABS-CBN Kapamilya network. Manny Pacquiao even confessed that he is now a kapamilya and is always proud to be one, saying that the fight is again dedicated to his fellow Filipinos.

When he signed an agreement with GMA 7, I only thought of one thing. It’s all about money. And clearly, it showed that it was all about money. GMA 7 was not able to deliver what was expected of them. They showed too much TVC’s that it took them more than 3hrs to air a fight that happened only in a few minutes. It was totally frustrating. Last year, he fought with the Golden Boy Dela Hoya. GMA 7 tried to limit the TV commercials but still, something was lacking. This year, the prodigal son goes back to ABS-CBN for the exclusive coverage of the much awaited fight of the year. Was it because of the money? Positive. Dealings with television networks are always on a bidding system. The higher the offer, the higher your chances to win the coverage.

On the other hand and in all fairness, I think ABS-CBN will give much justice to the coverage of Hatton-Pacquiao fight. The said network is proven to be an expert in featuring LIVE boxing shows without limiting their airtime on the fight alone, by featuring seasoned journalist Korina Sanchez and bigtime boxing analysts for a one interesting boxing conversation. Not to mention ABS-CBN’s winning sportscaster Dianne Castillejo who (eagerly) manages and never fails to snatch a good interview with the Filipino Boxing Champ. These and more make ABS-CBN a qualified (and better) network to exclusively cover an exceptional fight like that of Hatton and Pacquiao.

I could be wrong but these are based on my creative judgment as an avid viewer of the countless Manny Pacquiao fights aired on national television. What do you think?

Francis M’s shirts are selling like hotcakes

gold-microponoFrancis M. Clothing Company or FMCC is a company initiated by the late Francis Magalona himself and 3 other buddies. With its unique Filipino concept dubbed as 3 stars and a sun, the group revolutionize an idea that no one ever thought would sell. Now that the master rapper is gone, 3 Stars and A Sun shirts are selling like hotcakes. A friend told me once that FMCC Alabang branch ran out of stocks. That’s not really surprising because the shirt is now a collector’s item.

What came as a shocking thing was that other people, especially his fans, would proliferate the shirt. There had been news (sad to say) that pirated copies of the shirts are already out and selling at a much affordable price (of course). I hope that the government will do something about this (could they?). I only hope that somebody could put an end to this. People are only riding with the idea for one very simple reason: to gain profit! I hope that Kiko will be given the respect that he deserves. Give the group some respect for their creative idea, hardwork and effort put into the shirt, 3 Stars and a Sun.

One advice: Patronize. Don’t proliferate.

Here comes the bride… all dressed in (what?)

Weeks ago, I published a blog about Kamikazee vocalist Jay Contreras and his beloved wife Sarah Abad who tied the knot on a very different (and strange) setting. It was so strange but people still liked it. A few days later, my husband sent me another set of photos of the couple. I’m not talking about the honeymoon. Hehe. These photos were supposed to arrive earlier but since I am not the bride neither a friend of the bride and just a plain blogger, I am one of the lasts to know.

With this, I would like to give credit to Mango Red. It’s high time that I blog about them coz they are truly deserving of this page and my time (and most certainly, yours as well). I am not only blogging about Jay and Sarah’s photos; but Banjo Albano and gorgeous Sara Meier’s; and Barney and Baby Bop’s too (Archie and Sansan, sorry)! If you’re going to visit the site, Mango Red didn’t talk quite a lot about themselves. Because Mango Red walks the talk. Clear enough, their photos are living testimonies behind the wizards of the  company. Their creative juices are simply amazing to digest. It’s quite a surprise that they’re doing something innovative… something that others had not done yet.  They took the risk to be “something else” and provide out of the box ideas.

One of the most important event in a woman’s life is her wedding. Being that, Mango Red believes photos should be more than extraordinary. It should reflect an elegant taste of the couple combined with Mango Red’s creative solutions and ingenuity. Photos, as Mango Red reckons, should tell a thousand stories. And theirs are more than a conversation. It’s like a BUZZ, quite difficult to resist and be unmindful of. It’s like a SCANDAL that people love to talk about. They’re simply… irresistible.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes with brilliant and exceptional photos.

Thanks, Ricky Lo

Ricky LoMy heartfelt thanks to Ricky Lo, Philippine STAR’s Entertainment Editor. The said editor published my letter to Francis M. in an article entitled, Pia: A Pillar of Strength, dated March 9, 2009.

Again, thank you for publishing my letter. I wrote it in memory of Francis M and to help motivate others as to what kind of a man he was– a strong willed person who remained positive even at the most crucial times of his life.  He embraced death the way he embraced our country. He embraced death the way he embraced our Father. To his will, he submitted himself.

Sir Ricky Lo, mabuhay ka!

Postscript:

The said letter was also published on PhilSTAR’s and Yahoo! news’ websites.

Eraserheads’ The Final Set concert: The Chronicle

Is it a sticker? No, it's a ticket. I mean, yes! Well, just stick it on your shirt for an entry to the Final Set.

Is it a sticker? No, it's a ticket. I mean, yes! Well, just stick it on your shirt for an entry to the Final Set.

March 7, 2009 – The weather was good. Everyone was still reflecting on the death of Francis M but eagerly and patiently await for the Eraserheads’ Final Set concert. After all, it’s a tribute to the master rapper. Traffic was already building up when we arrived at the SM Mall of Asia grounds past 5pm. There was a long line leading to the parking lot and it took us almost 30mins to park. But it wasn’t that bad at all. We were all set to rock and reminisce the good ol music that we once loved in the 90s.

Like everyone else, we kept a tight grip on our tickets. Boy, we were so glad that we got the nice spot- Gold, which is next to VIP (courtesy of Smart Communications). A rough estimate of 180,000 Eraserheads fanatics flocked the SM Mall of Asia grounds to witness the final set. And yes, they were back to settle an unfinished business that they left during the reunion concert in 2008, which was postponed due to Ely Buendia’s heart condition that led him to undergo an angioplasty surgery. Somehow, people think if Ely can still manage the pressure especially that his longtime friend Francis Magalona passed away a day before the Final Set. With fingers crossed, we were looking forward to witnessing the best of their best shows.

Patiently, we waited for the group (despite the countless AVPs and TVCs of sponsors). MTV VJs Anne Kurtis, Kat Alano and I dunno who else, came on stage to announce a long list of (again) sponsors. Anne Kurtis even did an ad lib, “So exactly where is the tindahan ni aling nenE?” Totally pissed, the audience booed and shouted, “Eheads! Eheads! Eheads!” Then a group of Eheads fanatics began a countdown that actually stopped the vj’s from talking. Kat Alano could only utter, “Enjoy the show!” Soon enough (well after 3 more sets of sponsors’ avp’s and commercials and boy, we were so tired of seeing Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin on screen), the lights turned off and an avp of Eheads was shown on big screens. A video rerun of a brief chronicle of the Eraserheads- how they started, how they formed as a band, and how millions of Filipinos embraced their songs. Truly, it was a trip down memory lane. To start the event, alphabet letters were shown on reverse starting from the letter Z and ending with a big creative E.

The Final Set's creative stage

The Final Set's creative stage

Flashes of the creative letter "e" and Eraserheads photos appeared before the 4 huge screens above the stage set the crowd alive before the final appearance of the popular rock band

The final stage began with a powerful introduction of the band through creative avp's and blasting effects that rocked the house down

Flashes of the creative letter “e” and photos of Eraserheads that appeared before the 4 huge screens above the stage set the crowd alive and shouting before the final appearance of the popular rock band. The Eraserheads opened the event with a song Magasin. Everyone couldn’t help but shout and sing along. Admittedly, it took me quite some time publishing this blog because YouTube won’t upload the videos I took. 😦 Quite unfortunate coz most of them are way better than the videos I found on YouTube. But these videos are good enough esp that the ones who took it are obviously from VIP and Gold spots. 😉

The audience was also treated to a reggae yet funny version of Wag Mo Nang Itanong Sa Akin, Marcus Adoro’s own rendition. Come to think of it, it was cute and everyone loved it. Raimund Marasigan was even laughing as he was shaking his marakas.  The Eheads drummer took time off his drumset to deliver punk songs like Alkohol, Insomnia and Slo Mo. Everyone thought that this hyper number was specifically done for Ely so he would not tire easily.

A 15-minute gap was allowed for the band to be able to rest and change set. After which, Eraserheads came back with a more comfortable set. With bean bags around and a sofa chair, the frontman Ely even jokingly said, “Do you like our new home? Kung may mga request kayo, just write them on a 1/4 sheet of paper, lengthwise (huh?) and give it to the waiter.” This is where they played their accoustic and slow rock songs like Julie Tearjerky, Fine Time and more. After that, Ely then wowed the crowd with the classic Pare Ko leaving everyone cursing as we sing the chorus, “Di ba, t#%? ina, pinaasa nya lang ako. L3%!ng  pag ibig to woohhh ohh…”  The group obviously want their audience to shout “more” so Ely had to say “Thank you very much.

Following was the tribute to the man, Francis M. Ely, being the master rapper’s long time buddy, encouraged the crowd to shout “Francis” while Raimund clapped his hands as they played the song, Superproxy. He also sang Kiko’s Kaleidoscope World plus a hair-raising Eraserheads’ Alapaap, that were both rendered to pay tribute to the one and only Francis M. I particularly liked Alapaap and Minsan especially that the latter deals with friendship.

To wrap it up, the Final Set really lived up to the expectations of more than 100,000 Eraserheads fans who hailed from different places. Colorful fireworks and confettis worked great as they ended the song with Huling El Bimbo. Ely even drenched the piano with a lighter fluid and set it on fire. If you can still recall, that was the same piano that they used on their Sticker Happy album cover. The Eheads lead vocalist then began kicking the piano like most rockers did back in the 90s. Or perhaps a signal that this is the final reunion and the end of the Eraserheads? We hope not because people certainly want more. As they exit the stage, Ely threw away his pair of sneakers while the crowd wrestled to snatch the Eheads memorabilia.

The Eraserheads pose with the piano during their 1997 Sticker Happy album

To which, everyone assumed the show actually ended there. We were already on our way home when the group came back and Ely uttered, “Bitin pa kayo? Three for the road!” The Eheads finished the Final Set with three songs: Ligaya, Sembreak and Toyang. Ely embraced the crowd by going down the stage and joined them, encouraging his fans to sing with them. Supreme Editor Tim Yap was caught in a tricky situation singing “pen pen pen de sarapen…” Truly, it was an awesome show. And I really have to say this in our native language, “Astig! Ganda sobra. Panalo!”

This what we did during the 15-minute break. Haha!

This is what we did during the 15-minute break. Haha!

I call them "they who are blessed..." They were supposed to get bronze tickets from me but got promoted to Gold tickets. Soooppperrrr lucky!

Francis M: God bless the man

The legendary Francis M. God bless the man.

The legendary Francis M. God bless the man.

Dear Francis,

When I learned that you died today,
a sudden gush of blood ran through my veins
It felt sad and I mourned quietly
I asked why and how
You must’ve gotten tired of staying at the 14th floor.
Did you die in pain? I hope not.

Your friends, kababayans and fans think it’s too soon
And you made us believe that you were okay
You have such an intense valor that kept everyone going
But was it all just an act?
The pain must’ve gotten you all worn out
Did you ever want to go? I understand why.

More than a decade ago,
You sang “Meron akong Ano”
It was only a year ago when you announced,
“Meron akong cancer”
We were all sad and we prayed
Did you get sad too? I didn’t think so.

You took us by surprise with your TV guestings
You were busy here and there, despite your condition
You managed to be stable and move forward.
With high hopes, we thought you could manage.
Did you have high hopes too? I certainly thought so.
And how wonderful it is to be like you.

You passed away on a hot summer-ry day
Yet it feels like a cold summer night.
Your absence left everyone in awe
Much to our surprise, you were gone.
Did you ever want to leave on a summer day?
So we could mourn and sing your song?
I know you didn’t mean to.

Like your three stars and a sun
You shine the brightest.
You were a talented creature
Your hopes and passion
Has put you to where you were.
A man with a free mind, gone too soon.
Did it have to end like this? I don’t really know.

You said you knew that your journey
Is on full speed ahead
Yet your writings show that you willingly
Submitted yourself to our Creator
You must’ve known that death is on your way.
How lucky could you be, did you know that?
But how tragic it is for everyone who loved you so.

You were a devoted artist, a loyal friend,
a proud daddy and a loving husband.
It must’ve felt great to be one of them
We could only mourn and go on with our lives
Did you really go away?
Our heavenly father must’ve taken you.
But in our illusive minds, lie one man named Francis M.
Go in peace. Farewell my idol.

Chris Brown faces Felony charges

After the alledged heated argument between Chris Brown and Umbrella singer Rihanna on the night before the Grammy Awards, the male singer is now facing two counts of felony, including assault and criminal threat. The couple has not released any statement about the incident but LA cops confirmed that what triggered the argument was Rihanna’s fuming reaction after discovering a text message from another woman on his bf’s phone.

Chris appeared in court with his lawyer Mark Geragos and did not enter a plea. The Run It singer signed a waiver that would allow Atty. Geraros to act on his behalf and move the arraignment on April 6, to which the judge complied. However, he was ordered not to harrass or molest anyone at this time. Chris Brown was not ordered to stay away from Rihanna, upon the request of Rihanna’s lawyer.

Well, this may have been requested by Rihanna herself since the rumor came in that the couple had reunited at Sean “Diddy” Comb’s mansion. Most people were enraged after learning that the two got back into each other’s arms after the alledged incident that caused bruises and contusions on the Disturbia singer. Because if this is true, people fears that she won’t testify against Chris anymore. Reports said that Chris Brown’s lawyers are dealing with prosecutors on possible ways to a “no jail” arrangement.

Meanwhile, here are some photos that may actually change the minds of the prosecutors (or probably not because Rihanna may request his prosecutors not to reveal them) or the judge.

I was (offline) blogging (about the traffic) in the 90s!

While searching for some important documents, I found this paper inside my file box. It was an assignment I submitted back in College for a Journalism subject. Our professor asked us to take photos and key in a caption underneath the photo. My good buddy Geejay took time to take photos for me. Thanks, buddy! Because of you, I had an A or 1.5 (93%) and this paper came in as a top choice by our College professor. As you can see, the photo was too ancient because it wasn’t digital yet and I was still using a typewriter then. Haha! And oh by the way, this is how Glorietta 1 (Goldcrest) used to look like then. It’s never the same now because of the Glorietta bombing.

Anyways, this paper was all about the traffic/parking situation in Makati then. So here it is…

Read: NO PARKING. The drivers of these vehicles obviously ignored the sign. Otherwise, they have parked their vehicles in a parking lot. Unless these drivers are blind and great enough to drive like Helen Keller read. This is not an unusual sign in Metro Manila. This very rampant particularly in Ayala, Makati. The question is, why do authorities allow these cases? Traffic policemen should take care of this but they were nowhere in sight.

This was the paper I submitted in 1994. As you can see, I used a typewriter for this one because I was a traditional journalist that time. This paper got a 93% btw.

At present, traffic situation in Makati is still congested. Well, it’s even worse because the number of vehicles have increased. However, there has been a great improvement when it comes to parking. Passengers are no longer allowed to alight their vehicles anywhere they want. There are designated loading and unloading zones for vehicles to avoid traffic congestion. And parking? Vehicles are certainly not allowed to park anywhere. There are a number of parking lots around Makati area, but the question is how much? It’s about Php40.00 for every 4hrs and additional Php10/hr for the succeeding hours. You must allot Php100 if you’re planning to park all day especially for those who work in Makati. Sounds like business to me. Hehe.

Do you think traffic nowadays are better? How about parking? Are they really overcharging? Should there be a standard rate for parking? Is Php40/4hrs too much? Or is it the Php10.00 per succeeding hour that needs adjustment?

Parking lots are everywhere so no reason for drivers to park their cars at non-parking areas

A Black Wedding for Kamikazee’s Jay Contreras

Billy Idol once sang White Wedding in the 80s. Kamikazee lead vocalist Jay Contreras on the other hand, opted to do the opposite as he walked down the aisle to meet his ultimate fantasy, Sarah Abad. When my husband told me about the wedding, I thought it looked awful. But since it was Jay, I also thought it was cool. On the contrary, it lived up to the expectations of the “creative” people and it looked really elegant (and playful too).

Jay Contreras was dead set against the traditional wedding so he asked all his friends to come in black and attend a wedding held in Paco Cemetery. Well, since he couldn’t marry Sarah at the Paco Cemetery, he and his beautiful wife exchanged vows at the Paco Church. Reception was held at the said cemetery. The wedding was of course, attended by famous rock personalities like that of Parokya ni Edgar (well, it’s not a secret that these guys are good buddies).

Photos were practically assembled on tombs as if they were (dead) people from the past. Bright red roses and ivory white chairs jazzed up the reception area that revealed the elegant and discriminating taste of the couple. I thought it looked gothic but it didn’t. It looked cool. Sarah was dressed in white embellished with a black waistband, which to me was a good color combination. It just didn’t accentuate her shapely figure.

All in all, it was a cute wedding. Kaye Abad looked perfectly fine too. I wonder if she and Chito Miranda were inspired by all these and would be the next couple to get “hitched.” Hmm… If that happens, Jay and Chito will take their friendship to the next level as “in-laws.”

Anyways, here are some photos from the said wedding.

My heart goes out to ADMU student, Amiel Alcantara

One of my closest friends, Angel asked me this question, “Why haven’t you been commenting/blogging about the Ateneo student who was killed in a car crash?” I told her I would but I was just searching for some videos. Truth is, I wasn’t. I didn’t even have the intention to.

As a mother of a 22-month old Zoe, I couldn’t imagine losing her to a senseless accident as such that happened to Amiel, who was pinned by a van inside the campus of Ateneo de Manila. I’m really not good telling stories about a death of someone. I certainly do not want to recount the details of his untimely and gruesome death but I found a blog site where you can read more about the incident told by a Filipina mom blogger and I’m going to link it here– Noemi’s blog.

Noemi would be a better person to tell everything in details because she is a recovering mom who lost his son from a similar (?) incident. I cannot imagine her pain and what she went through. On the other hand, I am happy to know that time had allowed her to mourn, grieve and move on through positive resolutions. However, like her, I pray for the death of Amiel Alcantara. May his family find justice that they deserve. May his family recover and find healing in God’s comforting words and the fact that Amiel has now joined our creator. It won’t be an easy thing and it will take time.

Meantime, here’s a video of Amiel’s story told by a relative or a concerned citizen. Either way, it is a reminder to each one of us to drive carefully and be mindful of others, especially the children. This incident happened inside Ateneo de Manila University and kids are supposed to be safe inside the school premises. Before I end this, ADMU received a lot of petition to provide safety measures along the campus before another incident like this happens again. Let’s mourn for Amiel and support his family through prayers. May justice be served to them.

Vicky Belo-Boy Abunda: Let The “Games” Begin

Let the Games Begin– a line we usually hear from The Olympics where olympians battle for olympic medals, especially Gold, in honor of their homelands. This time, I feel that the line is fitting for the persons concerned in this blog.

The Philippine showbiz has yet another sizzling controversy to offer. Boy Abunda is now on the hot seat while Vicki Belo remains to be grilled when the latter expressed a harsh comment, which everyone thinks is quite an un-called for remark. When asked about the competition in the industry of cosmetic surgery, particularly that of using showbiz endorsers, Vicki Belo told Mo Twister that she started the trend, quoting her exact phrase:

“If you want to look like Boy Abunda, go to Calayan. But if you want to look like Dingdong Dantes or Piolo Pascual, go to Vicky Belo,” to which a senseless Mo Twister laughed and agreed on saying, “That is really true.”

This issue led Boy Abunda’s friends and supporters to come to his rescue. A furious Ricky Lo was quick to note that Vicki Belo was not only lacking in tact but her manners reveal her being an unprofessional doctor, saying that she is more aptly branded as a “trying hard nymphet.” In the defense of Boy Abunda, Ricky Lo even turned the tables on by ending his column with a sarcastic comment:

“If you don’t mind looking like Vicki Belo, go to her clinic. But if you want to look gorgeous lik Ruffa Gutierrez, Pops Fernandez and Rufa Mae Quinto, by all means go to Mikaela!”

Vicki Belo, you just woke the sleeping giants with your tactless remark! Bring it on, girl and let the games begin. 😛  Meantime, here’s the video of the said interview of Vicki Belo at Showbiz Central.

Vigilance Theme: I like it… and I’m lovin’ it!

Vigilance Theme

I’m going back to my old header– PINK! My sibling once told me that she thinks my pink header was really hot. Unfortunately, I had to change it because that particular theme wasn’t giving me options for additional widgets. So when I switched to a different theme, the colors didn’t match my hot pink header. So I had to shift to a green custom header (design, courtesy of my beloved husband). Good thing that WordPress launched this new theme called Vigilance. I get to keep my old header back, customize colors for the background, border, et. al. I’m still learning though. But most importantly, I like it neat!

I really like this new theme. In fact, I’m loving it. Use it for your own blog as well. It has a custom image header, customizable colors and widgets. You can even choose whether you like a wide sidebar or two thin sidebars. Should you have an important announcement, just type in your message on the “alert box” and enable it. Visitors will be able to see your announcement first because they stay on top of your page. Try the new wordpress theme now.
