Developer with a Passion for Data, Design, and Problem-Solving

I bring over nine years of professional experience across industry, research, and academic environments, with a strong foundation in software development, backend systems, and data-driven applications. For more than eight years, I worked in industry roles where I contributed to designing, building, and maintaining scalable applications using Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and cloud platforms. These experiences allowed me to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and support systems used in real-world production settings. My professional journey has helped me develop a disciplined approach to problem-solving, clean code practices, and system design. I have experience working with cloud-based architectures, RESTful services, and enterprise applications, and I value writing code that is not only functional but also maintainable and reliable. Along the way, I have learned the importance of adaptability, clear communication, and continuous learning in fast-paced technical environments. Currently, I am further expanding my expertise through a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics. In addition to my studies, I have gained hands-on experience as a research assistant for nine months and as an intern in Tampa, where I applied analytical and technical skills in both academic and practical settings. These roles have strengthened my interest in combining software engineering with analytics and AI-driven solutions. I am motivated by opportunities where I can contribute my industry experience while continuing to grow academically and technically, and I look forward to working on impactful, data-driven projects.

I didn’t come into development just to write clean code, I came into it to solve real business problems. My background sits at the intersection of web development, design, and sales, which means I don’t build websites in a vacuum. Every project I touch is viewed through one core lens: how does this help a business grow, convert, or operate more efficiently? That perspective was shaped by working directly with business owners, running my own agency, and seeing firsthand how many technically “good” websites still fail to perform. A recent milestone for me has been building and refining conversion-focused websites for service-based businesses, especially in competitive local markets like Tampa. Instead of just delivering a site and walking away, I focus on structure, messaging, performance, and user behavior, often uncovering missed revenue opportunities along the way. I’ve learned that small, intentional changes in layout, copy, or flow can dramatically impact results, and I enjoy digging into that problem-solving process. What I’m most passionate about is bridging the gap between technical execution and business outcomes. Many developers can ship features; fewer can explain why those features matter. I bring strong communication, an eye for design, and a sales mindset to my work, which allows me to collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and deliver solutions that actually move the needle. Where others may focus purely on code, I focus on impact, and that’s what makes me valuable.

I'm a backend developer with a broad base of experience in software development. I have a solid foundation in using C# and Go, as well as some experience with Typescript. I enjoy learning about new programming paradigms; I've learned some functional programming techniques from languages like Haskell, such as separating pure business logic functions from functions responsible for I/O. I've used these techniques to improve testability and maintainability in Go and Typescript. As well as development, I'm also familiar working with cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS. I started my career as a DevOps engineer managing an AWS-hosted application, and I've maintained my skills and familiarity with AWS even after becoming a developer. This background has helped me with debugging and maintaining applications, as well as helping with infrastructure tasks when needed. My infrastructure knowledge helped me build a AWS-hosted web service at a previous job that helped with license management for our on-premise deployments; as well as writing the code for it, I was able to design the infrastructure to host it and write CloudFormation templates to manage and deploy that infrastructure. Finally, I'm a quick learner who can get up to speed on new environments and tools in a short amount of time, which I've done at multiple previous jobs. I'm very curious, I enjoy learning, and I'm happy to get up to speed and help out with tasks outside my immediate area of responsibility.

Full Stack Developer | Chasing Simplicity and Pragmatism with Every Keystroke

C#
Node.js
Python
React
TypeScript

Hey there! My name is Erick Martinez, I am a full stack developer with three years experience. I am familiar with all things JavaScript. I can cha-cha slide my way around REST and GraphQL APIs. I can fumble my way through a raw SQL query but prefer to opt for a good ORM. I have poked around GCP and AWS consoles but find serverless abstractions like Vercel, Firebase, and Appwrite much more welcoming. In the past year, I have picked up some Python in order to snake charm some AI APIs. In short, I know some code and I'm not afraid to use it. If you’re curious about my previous work experience, here’s a quick tour: I am currently freelancing for two different clients with my responsibilities including contributing to the RHLF lifecycle of emergent AI coding models and conducting technical software interviews. Before that, I worked with a startup that was creating a platform to leverage crowdsourcing and AI to build manuals and 3D instructions for mechanical machines. My role was to help them create POCs using foundation models to enable prompt-based generation and editing of 2D and 3D models. Prior to that engagement, I stopped for a spell at an IT consulting firm. There, I picked up a thing or two about UX frameworks and used those insights to help enhance their plans for expanding their workforce development services. In 2021-2022, I had the pleasure to work with a startup of custom enterprise software and general software support. My role was to support the needs of clients from healthcare, safety science, and railroad industries by fulfilling feature requests, prototypes, and bug fixes. I’d like to tell you more but we’re hitting the time limit on this tour so be sure to checkout my resume or LinkedIn profile for full details. When I’m away from my computer, I like to spend time outside playing basketball, soccer, riding my fixie, swimming, running, rollerblading or walking. I’m currently searching for my next opportunity. I am willing to work fully remote or in a hybrid setting and I am looking for a mid-size team that emphasizes mentorship, team collaboration, and learning opportunities.
