Lillian Yurie Bohman

Image

Welcome to the world, little Lily! Born on December 19, 2011 and weighed 7lbs 15oz, and 20 inches long! We love her so much, and there is so much love from her. I want to write all through the day and into the night to explain how much love I have for her, but time is definitely a hot commodity, and write now I have a small window to write a little bit while she and Daniel and asleep.

We love being parents! It's hard and tiring but it is definitely worth it. Every day there is something new to discover and we are all learning. I love it. Not much gets done besides staring, feeding, changing, crying, calming (attempting), and sleeping. But hey, we should enjoy every moment of it! Some things to note about Lillian.

  • We call her Lillian and Lily, so we don't know yet which one will stick.
  • We can't figure out whose eyes she has...they are so beautiful.
  • She has dark hair, but it looks like it getting lighter. She also has a little mullet...it's so cute.
  • She has my nose
  • We're pretty sure she has my big lips, but she likes to tuck in her bottom lip.
  • This is awesome: She has monkey toes just like her mamma! You can put your little finger under her toes and she will actually grab them! She also wiggles them around like I do.
  • She has my fingers...although she has pretty big hands and we don't know where she got them.
  • She has Daniel's body type
  • My face shape
  • Seriously strong legs...even right after birth she was kicking those legs around like crazy.
  • She is a huge cuddle bug, and her favorite place to sleep...on Daddy's chest.
  • She does not like being on her back (that could have something to do with reflux, still trying to work that out).
  • She eats like some creature that eats a lot...oh yah, a baby :) (within six days, she gained about a pound).
  • She makes the most adorable sounds while she's sleeping
  • She hates pacifiers or anything else that she can suck on but doesn't produce milk.
The list could go on, but my time is running short and I want to get some pictures in. More to come!

The Update

Today, I am 40 weeks and 5 days, which means that our little gal has not made her debut into the world. We are still super excited to see her and we tell her that everyday. My finals ended last week, and Daniel's ends today, so perhaps she will be here really soon. Also, we thought she would come on a snow day, but yesterday it snowed and no baby. Today it was predicted to snow all day, and guess what...no snow! Daniel and I are enjoying these moments we have, but man, I'm so ready to see her beautiful self!
In other events, our little Bohman family is moving to Kenai, AK in January. We will be there until the end of August while Daniel is interning with an M.D. We are so excited to be going back to Alaska and spend time with his family.

Oh yeah, A Chick-fil-A opened up in Idaho Falls! I love it!
That's all for now.

October is almost over!

I was hoping to have a new post in with lots of pics from my baby shower, but my absent memory and the lack of time from school has forced me to just post with no cool pics :( Sorry.

October has been a great month, and has gone by so quickly.
  • I had a fun baby shower put together by my mom, and a few wonderful ladies in my ward. It was such a special experience.
  • Daniel and I carved pumpkins at the beginning of the month, but they are now frozen and moldy...
  • Daniel and I hit the mid-term drag this month...great to spend time together, but not-so-great getting school assignments finished on time.
  • I have read a total of 13 Young Adult Books for one of my classes...12 more to go.
  • A wonderful friend of mine had her baby girl this month and she named her Scout after To Kill a Mockingbird, which I just finished reading for the first time in my life! I wonder why they didn't include that in our English curriculum since it's set in Alabama?
  • We have had a couple of really cold nights, but I still sleep with the windows open.
  • We went to an awesome straw maze.
  • We put the car seat in the car!
And finally, I am approaching 34 weeks and starting to experience the final stages of pregnancy...if that makes any sense. I don't sleep well anymore, I have cried uncontrollably in front of a lot of people while on campus on two occasions, and I found out today that the baby sometimes can cut off my vein in my abdomen causing me to get low blood pressure. As a result of this, I had a couple of fainting spells this morning in my 8:00 am class and had to be escorted out by a professor and then placed in his reclining chair in his office while Daniel left his class to come pick me up! Needless to say, there have been a lot of surprises with the last trimester. But the end result is so worth it. And she is healthy as can be. :)

Daniel and I are both so excited to see our little lady. I feel like I get to know her more and more each day as I feel her move around in me, and respond to our touches. Daniel likes to get up to my belly and "gently" move it and say, "Baby, why are you sleeping?" It's funny to watch her reaction, whether it be a kick or a bunch of kicks. We definitely get a "kick" out of it. I also like to read to her, and normally it's from the books that I'm reading for my classes, but we just got Goodnight Moon and The Hungry Caterpillar from a dear friend and professor on campus so I can start building a cool library for her. I'm excited for the time we get to spend together as a family bonding and growing together.

Pictures soonish :)

Book Review

                                                    Image

When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead is a young adult, science fiction novel that portrays a young girl trying to figure out the importance of relationships in her life and how she impacts others through those relationships. It is excellently told through second-person narrative.
Miranda is a 12 year-old girl living with her single mother in down-town New York City. The story takes place in the year 1978-1979, and starts with Miranda saying that her mom just received an invite to be a contestant for $20,000 Pyramid; a T.V. show hosted my Dick Clark. The story is written mainly in second person, where Miranda is writing to an unknown individual. She starts by talking about her typical daily life in New York. She talks about friends and family and how each relationship goes through a cycle of events. Her relationships with others are the key to unlocking the mystery as to why she has received random letters from someone unknown; an individual who prompts her to write about what is going on in her life. The story ends in an exciting way, where the reader is trying to figure out who this unknown person is and what is the purpose of the letters and Miranda’s story.
“Sometimes you never feel meaner than the moment you stop being mean. It’s like how turning on a light makes you realize how dark the room had gotten. And the way you usually act, the things you would have normally done, are like these ghosts that everyone can see but pretends not to” (p 144).
“She shook her head slowly. ‘I don’t know. I just feel stuck, like I’m afraid to take any steps, in case they’re the wrong ones. I need a little more time to think.’ She stood up. ‘The water’s probably boiling by now. Spaghetti in ten minutes.’
Spaghetti again. We were kind of stuck, I realized. In a lot of ways” (p 117).
Maybe this comes from my love of fantasy fiction, but this novel ties science fiction with the story of a girl we can all relate to. Life at that age is always changing and discovery plays an important role at this stage of development. I definitely want to keep this book around and share it with others, especially my kids.
