Our first stop was Heidelberg. What a beautiful town! There is a river flowing down the center, and a huge castle ruin on the hill. We didn't have time to see everything, so we will definitely plan a return trip to visit the castle.
This shows how high the river has gotten during certain years. I can't imagine the water being so high with businesses and homes just above the water line.
We did make time for some Heisse Schokolade (hot chocolate), a carousel ride, and some ornament and wool hat shopping. It was a very cute town.
That evening we crashed in an apartment in Rust, Germany. It is the home of Europa Park, which is Europe's version of Six Flags. We did not attend the amusement park, although I'm sure the kids would have loved it. But the apartment was affordable, and centrally located. It could also sleep a family of six, which is pretty hard to find in Europe.
