I have a helper on my hands and her name is Ava Bear. For the past several weeks, whatever I seem to be doing at any time of the day or night, Ava shows up by my side to lend a helping hand. She unloads dishwashers, sweeps floors, and cleans toilets. You name it, she's there. I don't have the heart to tell her that sometimes little chubby finger print smears on my wood furniture are not helpful when dusting. And that simply moving the dirt around with a broom is not quite the same as sweeping it into a pile. I just recognize the fact that some day she might not want to help me with anything anymore, so I try to appreciate her help for what it is. Even if she shows up in the kitchen with her little broom well after I have already put her to bed, just because she hears that I am sweeping. Even then.
This is also sort of a shot of my remodeled kitchen that we did almost a year ago now. I never blogged about it because there were those last few nagging details that were not quite finished, and some of them probably never got finished (like sealing the backsplash grout or caulking around the edges). But sometimes, you just gotta move on. So anyway, we laid the big tile on the diagonal and the tiny backsplash tiles by ourselves (with my dad, and some other random helpers of course), and got new granite (which we did not install ourselves). We also got a nice big granite composite sink with a new faucet, which I LOVE. I'd still like to paint the cabinets and put some hardware on them, and of course get all new stainless steel appliances, but like I said…sometimes you just gotta move on. Maybe someday.
