Helen Adams of Textile Curator

About Textile Curator

Textile Curator showcases the outstanding quality, variety and talent of international contemporary textile artists. It was founded by Helen Adams who after a degree in Constructed Textiles specialising in tapestry weaving, used her artistic background in magazines. Helen spent almost a decade as a contributing editor for interiors magazines including House Beautiful and Ideal Home. She then relocated to Sydney working as a writer and stylist for interiors magazines Home Beautiful, Inside Out and Better Homes and Gardens. She is currently based in the UK with her family.

Living in Europe, Australia and Asia has highlighted the relatively low presence of textile art. Although the profile of textile art is rising slightly due to the desire for handmade items in an increasingly digital age, there is still a long way to go to raise awareness of the beautiful work available. Hopefully Textile Curator can help change that.
Helen is available for writing articles or artist press releases, curating exhibitions, being a juror for competitions, and offering advice and editing artists websites.

Textile Fine Art: Conversations with Artists Creating by Hand

By Helen Adams

With a foreword by Ann Coxon, former curator of International Art at Tate Modern

As artists from across the globe have pushed the boundaries of what is considered fine art, textiles have emerged as one the most vibrant and captivating areas of contemporary art. Tapestry, embroidery, quilting and a wide array of fibre arts are taking centre stage in galleries and exhibitions worldwide.

From Tracey Emin’s blankets to the immersive installations of Chiharu Shiota, via the magical realist hand-embroidery of Chiachio and Giannone and painterly stitching of Alice Kettle, this lavish volume brings together over 50 living artists all creating stunning work by hand.
