Fiddlin’ around just trying to learn a bit about this beautiful soulful music called old-time.
I’ve named this blog as an ode to the standard structure in many old-time songs. The “a part” begins low, while the “b part” plays the higher notes. It’s a change in melody and a change in pitch. The b part has a cheerier, brighter character.
So here begins my b part.
Hi Emily,
I’m in. How do I get the sound tracks?
I’ll email you a few recordings. Youtube these songs and let me know which ones you want to learn first.
Emily
This is your cousin Ann Cohen Pearl, your grandfather Harry’s niece, I am on the phone now with your father and I have a very good and old friend who plays old time music and helped set up the Brandywine Old Time Music Conservancy. His name is Sheldon Sandler and I am giving him your name. The Conservancy has published a book on oldtime songs. Let me know if you connect
Nice to hear from you–and what a small world. I’ll see if I can connect to your friend through the Brandywine site. Very cool!
