Rhosili Bay, Wales

Image
I have been hearing about how lovely this beach is for about a year now. I have been dying to go. So I used Uncle Andy's visit as a good excuse to go for a visit and boy was it worth it! Gorgeous! It is only between 3-4 hours from our house (depending on traffic). A great weekend getaway!

I think we took close to 100 pictures. You just couldn't stop photographing. Everywhere you turned it was absolutely beautiful and deserved another picture.

Family picture. Of course, you can't really see us but the scenery sure is lovely. The island out there covered in green was too interesting to look at. I think when the tide is out, you can actually go out there.

Be a Monk for a Day

Image
Recently we visited Tintern Abbey.  It was founded in 1131. It is located in Monmouthshire on the Welsh bank of the River Wye which forms the border between Wales and England. It inspired William Wordsworth's poem "Lines Written A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey". The Cistercian monks (or White Monks) lived at Tintern for 400 years until King Henry VIII dissolved all monasteries in England and Wales. The above picture is from the internet and below are the pictures I took while we were there. Charles and I have been to Tintern before but it was new to the girls and they loved exploring it.

Three doorways for three girls.

The girls were obsessed with finding their own private, unique spot for a photo.

Image
The nave is the most impressive part of the Abbey with all the arches looming overhead. You cannot really capture how enormous and tall it is with a camera.

Behind Sammy you can see the remains of the kitchens.

The village of Tintern is very picturesque with its tea rooms, cafes and shops on a backdrop of beautiful green hills. This is looking from the Abbey to part of the village. Spot Charles walking across the road with Sadie.

Back to School

Image
Last week all three girls started school. Abby is in year 6, Sammy year 4 and Alex is in reception (kindergarten). They are all in the same school. Abby is the oldest in the school and will be applying to secondary school in September/October. We will not find out what school she gets into until April of next year. She is a bit nervous but a little excited too. Sammy has Abby's old teacher from the previous two years, so she is happy. Alex could not be more excited to see Abby and Sammy at school. It has been the highlight for her so far. Sammy has taken it upon herself to "take care" of Alex at school. She has assigned herself Alex and three of her reception friends to play with and look after at play time. We'll see how long it lasts but it is very nice of Sammy. These pictures show them in their summer uniform. They also have a winter uniform.

Un-named Castle in Wales

Image
When Charles' brother was here, we drove to Wales and spent some time there. We packed a lot in so the next few posts will be all Wales pictures. Here is a random castle somewhere in Swansea. I think Charles just saw it on the map and decided to lead us there. It probably has a name but I didn't really pay attention. Just look at the pictures and enjoy them and forget the details...

Image
We could not go in at the time. I am not sure if someone actually lived there or if it was opened to the public and simply just closed that day.

This was about the time when Charles' brother Andy, went up the little hill to get a close shot of this gate and walked through a whole bunch of stinging nettle. We all couldn't stop laughing at him while he endured all the stinging on the way back out too. I am sure he was feeling that for the rest of the day...

And there you have it - a random castle in Wales. Wales is full of castles. It is fun to go in search of them and explore. We saw a few more on this trip, so stay tuned....
