Support our work
We are a people-powered charity that champions repair to bring communities together and cultivate an economy that prioritises people and planet.

We’re on a mission
We’re building a future where every product is repairable and where repair and reuse are accessible and affordable for everyone.
We do this by supporting repair communities in the UK and around the world, making the business case for repair, and working to fix the broken system by driving Right to Repair campaigns in the UK and EU.
Since our first Restart Party in a north London pub in June 2012 we’ve helped thousands of people access repair and helped shape legislation that makes everyday products easier to fix.

This is what we do
Here are some recent milestones we’re proud of:
- The 1,000+ communities across our network have helped more than 120,000 people fix their broken stuff, preventing over 3,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and 350 tonnes of waste.
- We co-founded and co-lead Right to Repair Europe, a campaign that’s helped drive through pro-repair policies like the EU’s Right to Repair Directive, which will give most Europeans better access to affordable repairs for a range of products.
- Our Right to Repair campaigning in the UK is gaining traction too. Nearly 100 MPs have signed up to our Repair & Reuse Declaration, the government’s circular economy taskforce is now considering repair and reuse, and we run annual repair events in Parliament itself.

- We coordinate International Repair Day, the world’s biggest annual celebration of repair. In 2025, we saw over 3,000 events in 50 countries around the world!
- Our innovative Fixing Factories are opening up across London, offering different repair and training options for locals, expanding the possibilities of community-centred repair and inspiring others to do the same.
- We introduced the UK’s first repair voucher scheme, helping people in our home town access cheaper professional repair and supporting independent repair shops.
- We help researchers, policy makers, campaigners and manufacturers understand why products break and the barriers to fixing them. We do this by publishing the world’s foremost open dataset on repairs attempted in community settings.
- We created Fixfest, an ongoing series of in-person gatherings for community repair. By bringing together repairers and tinkerers, activists, policy-makers, thinkers, educators and companies from all over the world, we’re strengthening our global movement. Most recently, Fixfest 2025 was a huge success.

What our supporters say

It’s working. The blood, sweat and tears – the hours Restart spend pushing against legislative brick walls, empowering the community along with the myriad of under-the-radar initiatives, are all making a difference. Thank you

I really believe in the mission of the Restart Project and try to live it myself, as well as encourage family and friends.
– Tabitha
Restart is one of the giants in repair, worthy of every dollar, pound, lire…
– Vita
Too many things are simply thrown away when they break in some small, easily-repaired way, which is both bad for the environment and costly for the owner (but great for the manufacturers’ bottom lines). As a compulsive repairer since childhood, I love to know that there are others out there who want to change the culture of disposability.
– Stephen
Thank you for promoting the reuse message. It deserves support!

Every donation helps us...
Build local repair solutions
Our work with the community repair movement, local authorities and other partners makes the case for locally-focused solutions including high street repair, training schemes and community repair events, reducing waste in the UK and internationally. Through our actions on the ground, we help people access repair and demonstrate how wider system change can work in practice.

Change the system
We rally communities and partners across the waste and repair sectors to secure policy changes in the UK and EU that prioritise repair and reuse over recycling, offer tax incentives for repair and reuse, and offer a Right to Repair for all electrical products. Together, we’re fixing a broken system at its source.

Make the business case for repair
Independent repair businesses are key to the thriving repair economy we need. Our work with businesses and other partners demonstrates what works, and brings the policies we’re calling for to life. Most recently, this includes our North London repair voucher scheme and directory of repair shops in London.

Let's make repair the norm
Thank you
