Book Contest

The kids have been working on some original artwork and story writing over the last week. They are entering a writing contest in which the national winner for each grade receives a laptop. My kids are all convinced that they will each be winning their own laptops! lol. Anyways, I am posting their books here. The hardest part of the contest was staying inside the word limit, which was based upon their grade level. None of kids wanted to end their stories once they arrived at the limit. So, here they are... (click on images to enlarge them).

Photo Update...

It's been too long since I last updated. I will try to post a few pics. I now have a new camera that I love so I hope to have more pictures to share. :) Also, check out our video on the last post. It was put together by my sister Amy during Christmas.

We had a little fun yesterday with the camera...the girls and I decided to do a picture copying one of myself with my older sister. These dresses have survived the many years of wear- even after my younger sisters wore them. So here you are:

Ohio Trip

We went to Ohio over Labor Day Weekend to visit Jeffrey's parents. On the way through Kentucky we stopped to see the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. We have been studying the Underground Railroad, Slavery, Abraham Lincoln, and the Civil War this semester. Small trips such as these are really fun reinforcements of what we are reading at home.

David looks more the part of Lincoln as a boyImage
We also got to see Jeffrey's brother and sister-in-law, as well as their little boy, Alex. This was the first time we got to meet Alex.

We had a very pleasant and restful visit after many busy summer weeks. Here are some pictures from our day at the zoo.

The zoo was busy, but the animals were quite active, which made the experience very entertaining. Our favorites were the monkeys, apes, and polar bears.

This ape seemed to like having it's picture taken.
