Oldie but Goodie

Hey, who doesn't love a good bargain? I love browsing antique and thrifts shops! It's so fun to see items that were used for everyday life many years ago --or even recently. Sometimes you can see things you remember from childhood. Other times, you see things that are so obsolete that you have no idea what it would have been used for!

One of my favorite things to look for is vintage dollhouse items. I guess the thrill of the hunt is (almost) as good as the find itself! I really enjoy finding good, previously-loved pieces. It is the ultimate in recycling. Besides, often times, they really "don't make things like they used to".

I am hoping to furnish Penelope's apartment with good vintage finds or items that are handmade. Can't wait for the garage sale season to really start. It is mid-winter right now, so not much in the way of outdoor browsing!

Small Furnishings

So, like I mentioned before, I would like to build Penelope a studio apartment. Since this would be only one layer and not supporting an upper floor, I was considering using foam-core for walls. I might even leave the ceiling off for easier photography. Hopefully, it will fit on my worktable next to my sewing machine. So, just 3 walls and a floor. ( Did you see the movie Ratatouille? I absolutely loved Remy's little window alcove, complete with the pocketwatch for a clock! )

I have always loved dollhouses. When I was little, we got a dollhouse from a garage sale, so it came without any furniture... which turned out to be a good thing! It was so fun to make small furniture and see the empty dollhouse come to life. Perhaps that is where my love for making small things began.

It's so tempting to buy toys we knew from our childhood. I've greatly admired several people's collections of Strawberry Shortcake dolls. And to hear that Strawberry Shortcake still smelled like strawberries after all these years was so cute! Oh, does anybody remember The Littles' dollhouse? It was an orange and lime green Victorian house. Their furniture was really well-made. A lot of cast-metal pieces.

I guess that's one thing I really appreciate. Things (especially toys) that are made with high quality workmanship. One of the "toys" that comes to mind are the Vintage 1958 Mattel Modern Furniture. It makes me wonder if it would even be possible for a toy company to manufacture such high quality toys in mass quantity nowadays.

Welcome!

Hi there! Thanks for visiting our blog! Just a little bit about us...

Penelope
Comfy Slippers!
Penelope is my sweet Blythe girl. She test fits all of my clothes designs to make sure they are comfortable. I love sewing for her because she never complains about how long it takes to fit a pattern. No matter how late it is, she is always patiently waiting next to my sewing machine, ready to help me at a moment's notice. (The pajamas and bunny slippers she is wearing were made by me, as are the clothes she wears in the sidebar photo. )

Me (Diane/ThreadDough)
I love Blythe dolls! And I love fabrics! Oh, and yarn, too! So I guess it was only natural that creating clothes for Blythe became a passion of mine. On this blog, I hope to share how clothes for Blythe dolls can be made. All it takes is a little yarn or fabric and a dose of patience.

Hmm.. what else.... Oh yes, I would like to thank my husband for understanding my passion for making all these tiny clothes. I am very happy that he does not think it is (too) weird that I love making clothes for Blythe so much. :o)

It is hard to believe that I only discovered Blythe in 2007. I am so grateful for all the lovely, generous friends I have met in the Blythe world... from around the world! They never cease to amaze me with their creativity and talents. I would like to thank all my Blythe friends for always encouraging and supporting me! :o)

Please feel free to leave comments after posts. It would be lovely to hear from you.

So, anyways, thanks again for visiting us!
