Hi there!
Long time no see....
Well, it is Summer now. Hope you are all doing well. It has been extremely hot here in the Midwest of the US. There have been record-breaking temperatures and strings of 100F+ days. So, when you can't go outside for very long because it is SOOO HOT....it is nice to pass some time indoors, playing and creating nice things for our beloved dollies. :o)
Recently, I was digging through my own storage boxes and found this:
It is a vintage Simplicity Pattern #6275 for Skipper! Believe it or not, this dog-earred pattern has survived several house moves. We bought this from a garage sale when I was very little. So glad that I still have this as it brings back memories of childhood sewing. Who knew that decades later, I would be sewing for dolls again? this little gem is missing some its pattern pieces as the previous owner had cut them out. It is fun to know that another little girl had also sewn clothes for her dolly, too.
The cover artwork alone is fun to look at. The patterns (what was left! haha) are not as sophisticated as the Japanese Doll Coordinate Recipe patterns, but the designs are still cute. It is also nice to see instructions in English! All of you that sew with Japanese patterns know what is like to try and figure out pattern assembly by looking only at a numbered diagram because we can't read Japanese!:o)
When I was little, I made the color-blocked capri shirt set. At that time, I didn't have a Skipper doll, only a regular 12" doll...so I had to make some pattern changes. It was interesting to see those taped on pieces of paper still in the envelope.
So, if you ever go rummaging through a church sale, garage sale, op-shop, boot sale, yard sale....and you see one of these tattered doll patterns.....consider saving these pieces of history. As a bonus, Skipper patterns do fit Blythe dolls, too!
Happy Sewing to You,
Diane
:o)
