Julie's Quilt In A Day braid

Lois' friend Julie made this very pretty Quilt In A Day Braid quilt. The fabrics are so pretty and springlike. Makes me want to make another one of these, too.

I considered custom quilting for this one, but ended up with Bountiful Feathers for the quilting, Hobbs 80/20 batting and Lite Spearmint Omni thread.

Some Family Time in November

Here is some of what has been going on around here besides quilting.

In November I went to Ekron, KY to my granddaughter's and we made a trip to McDonalds, her favorite place.

Julie, Matt, Andrew, Elizabeth, Kathy, Jessica, Sarah, Robbie, Bella and I attended the Annual armed Forces Fish Fry. Dinner was great, but of course, I ate too much! I sponsored a table in Jeff's name, so it was like he was there with us.

Here's the quilt I donated for this event. It only raised $55, which saddens me.

Julie celebrated a birthday this year with a little party and Liz came home with me for the night. We made a trip to Chuck E Cheese for dinner and a little fun.

Back at home to put together some new puzzles. She sure is good at them.

Julie made this pecan pie for Thanksgiving using her grandma's recipe. It was yummy!

Julie's Minkee

My daughter, Julie, bought a kit at the Cuddle Corner in Shipshewana in October and made this quilt for her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Kendra. Se took her Serger with her to the retreat and that's how she sewed the strips together. It worked so well that I used that same idea to make Calise's.

I don't think I got a photo of the whole quilt, but you can see by these pics that it is just beautiful!

I quilted it with the new Flower Child panto, lite spearmint Omni thread and
Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Then she bought more minkee to make one for Tony, so they could each have one. His is browns and blacks, and very soft. Black Permacore thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. Adding batting th these makes them quite heavy, but oh-so soft.

Kathy's Homespuns

Kathy love to make quilts with homespun fabrics and they are all quite lovely. This one is no exception. She just wanted a meander, so I was able to squeeze it in before Christmas.

Celtic Solstice, Part 5

No, you haven't missed anything.

This is the first time I've posted about this Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.

I got a good bit of Part 5 done yesterday after we returned home from Kentucky. All the pieces are cut out, most of the wings are on and I expect to finish it up tonight.

These are Bonnie's colors:

I usually make quilts in bright colors, but not this time. These are my fabrics:

I wanted a warm looking, brown, red and gold quilt. I'm a bit concerned that the browns and reds are too close, but we'll see. The fabric in the lower right, was my inspiration and will probably be a small border, or binding.

BSM quilts

My Blue Star Mothers group came together to provide Christmas for a Monticello family. These boys lost their dad in Afghanistan and are living with their grandparents.

I offered to make lap quilts for them and I picked out the fabrics, two that like fishing and one that likes police cars, another Blue Star Mother, Rose, started piecing the strips and she made the pillowcases.

I finished the centers and added borders, quilted and bound them.

There isn't a lot of police car fabric out there, but I did find this fleece for the backing.

Both fishing quilts have the same flannel backing.

Makes me feel good to know that I helped provide a family some gifts to give them comfort and keep them warm.

Carla's Kaffe

Carla made this bright, modern chevron quilt using some Kaffe Fasset fabrics.

I chose another new-to-me panto called Turbulence by Apricot Moon. I really like this one and it will quickly become a favorite of mine.

I used Lava Lava-Lava thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

 

The back looks washed out but is a beautiful mottled turquoise batik.

Sharon's Quilt

Sharon made this really cute quilt and I've had a hard time deciding, again!

I chose a meaner for the backgrounds, Continuous Curves in the blocks and Straight Angle Feathers (I just made up that name) in the outer border.

Omni white thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

I love her fabric choices, so you get to see a lot of the blocks.
