Dr. Mahbub Islam, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, received a five-year $540,025 National Science Foundation CAREER award for his battery-focused study, “Computational Insights into Interfacial Chemistries in Nonaqueous Batteries.” Islam’s research focuses on nonaqueous magnesium-carbon dioxide batteries, an alternative next-generation energy storage technology that combines the natural abundance, low cost and high capacity of magnesium anodes with the ability to harness carbon dioxide consumption for generating electricity.
