Texas Teeth

Image
They are called Texas Teeth because of all of the wide open spaces.
She lost the front two on June 1st-almost 6 months ago! She lost a third front tooth yesterday and a fourth is loose. I wonder if she'll be singing "All I want for Christmas is my four front teeth"?

soccer champ

Please indulge me a moment while I brag about my little soccer star who scored the winning goal in her league's championship game. Actually, she scored both goals for her team to win 2-1.

The teams were pretty evenly matched and right at the end of the first half, Naomi broke away and dribbled past all defenders and just launched this beautiful shot to the upper right corner.
No one else scored until the last 5 minutes, then the opponents scored. Tied 1-1. Then with one minute left in the game, her teammate took a shot that the goalie blocked, but didn't catch, and Naomi was right there to knock it in. The Highlights (team name inspired by the uniform color) won the title. It was a lot of fun. She was quite impressive and we are quite proud.

Halloween

ImageDeon and Jonah went as nerds, Liliana and Naomi were bees, I was the beehive, and Marea? Marea was Ariel. She was supposed to be Tiana. I bought the costume. It was the ONLY costume I bought . But the dress was just a skimpy little halter top, and it also happened to be cold that night so Deon and I agreed she needed to wear a shirt under it. Marea did not agree. I can tell this will not be the last of our wardrobe disagreements. So I let her off the hook with the Tiana costume and offered to whip her up a bee costume (in the 2 minutes we had before leaving) What was I thinking? Why would Marea want to wear the same thing as her sisters and complete a very cute little family theme. It ended with a, "Fine, just be Ariel or something."
Thank goodness for being the neighborhood hand-me-down "caboose".

Crazy I've become

ImageI made 30 of these little origami Yodas for Jonah's class. THIRTY. That's not the crazy part. I actually enjoyed sitting and doing something mindless, yet productive, for an hour(I keep telling myself it was only an hour). The crazy part is, I'm not even sure this is a graded book report. It might just be a "fun little something" for literature day.
Extra credit he must get or furious will I be, hmmm?

The Sand Pit 5K

Image The sand Mt. Everest
Image Filling in"the swamp"
ImageAs you can tell from our glamour shot, the picture of my sister Lindi and I was taken after the race. The first half of the race started off on packed sand (the sand on the water line). We had the first 2 obstacles in the ocean which was basically running in and out around bouys that were supposedly waist high...well maybe if you were 6'4''. However if you are 5'4'' and then you factor in the surf, know that I went under water at lest 3 times and mostly "running" in water up to my arm pits. Then we ran the second half of the race in dry sand(AKA deep). That was tough because I have a hard time walking in deep sand let alone running in it. Plus we are throwing in obstacles like "the swamp" and "MT. Everest" and hurdling road blocks, running through tires, stepping through hanging hula hoops, belly sand crawls, over/under limbo bars. But you know what, it was so ridiculous it was fun, and I am crazy enough to do it again next year.

Naomi's Baptism Day

Image
Image September 11th 2010

Naomi was so excited to turn 8 and be baptized by her dad. She told me just before she went down into the water, "I've waited my whole life for this!"

Notice the newly pierced ears.

My parents and my sister Melinda and her family drove down from the Bay Area for the weekend. It was really busy but fun, fun, fun.

It was my sister Jana's anniversary, and my niece Elise's first birthday. Throw in a business meeting, a soccer game, a race, an airport pick-up, and a dinner party and the day was about complete.

Maybe Lindi will post pictures from the Sand Pit 5K we did Saturday morning. Running in deep sand, in the ocean, military style obstacles, it was exhausting and a total blast.
