Our Story

We Reward the Hands
That Make Our Coffee

TRY Coffee was conceived in 2025 by Project TRY, an award-winning social enterprise that has delivered vocational training and education to marginalized communities in Borneo since 2015.

In the highlands of Sabah, indigenous women farmers work tirelessly to cultivate coffee as a livelihood to support their families with menial returns.

We work directly with these farmers not only to drive economic empowerment, but also to ensure longevity of soil health through ongoing training and workshops in sustainable coffee farming.

To establish a self-sustaining ecosystem, we also train underserved youth as baristas, creating pathways into dignified work to promote the coffee from our farmers.

How We Impact

Coffee with Purpose
in Every Cup

Farmer capacity building and sustainable practices

Growing with the Land

We work alongside farmers through hands-on training and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on sustainable and regenerative coffee farming practices.

These methods support healthier soils, more consistent yields over time, and greater resilience for farming families in Sabah's highlands.

Natural Fertilization

Composting and organic soil care that builds long-term fertility without chemical dependency.

Sustainable Farming Practices

Methods that protect both the land and the communities that depend on it for generations.

Shared Knowledge

Ongoing workshops that build farmer confidence and skills season after season.

Women artisans weaving bamboo in Sabah

Reviving Craft, Building Income

Beyond coffee, women in the community receive hands-on training in bamboo weaving, creating functional and market-ready items such as baskets, holders, and packaging components.

This opens up additional income streams while strengthening cultural identity and pride.

Skill Development

Hands-on training in traditional weaving techniques, adapted for modern use and market demand.

Cultural Preservation

Sustaining indigenous craft traditions while creating dignified livelihood opportunities for future generations.

More Value Stays With the Community

We partner directly with small-scale farmers and women artisans in Sabah, removing layers in the value chain across both coffee and handcrafted bamboo products.

This creates pricing stability, enables closer collaboration, and ensures community members retain a greater share of the value they create.

Fair Pricing

Above-market rates for both coffee and bamboo products — not tied to volatile commodity pricing.

Direct Purchasing

We buy coffee beans and handwoven bamboo items directly from farmers and women artisans, bypassing middlemen.

Long-Term Commitment

Continued investment in the community through training, quality improvement, and market access.
