    N.C. Forest Service personnel have completed an aerial forestland damage assessment in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. An estimated 822,000 acres of timberland were damaged during the storm, resulting in an estimated $214,000,000 of timber damage to North Carolina forests.

    After two days of strategic firing operations, 🔥Pulp Road Fire🔥 estimated at 16,000 acres. Winds to pick up overnight, moving smoke south & west of the fire area. Significant smoke expected along NC Highway 211 tomorrow. More: bit.ly/3p8k7BF

    As of 8 p.m., 6/16, Pulp Road Fire at 11,500 acres following strategic firing operations. These operations are conducted to bring the fire’s edge to the road system, which will help crews to better contain the fire. Containment remains at 0%. More: bit.ly/43Hg3aA

    Our #HeleneNC forestland damage estimate indicated that more than 27% of forestland in the affected counties received some level of damage. Due to the timber types prevalent in this area of the state, a substantial proportion of this damage appears to be hardwood sawtimber.

    As of 9 a.m. 11/20, the Sauratown Mtn. Fire in Stokes Co. is estimated at 300-350+ acres & is expected to grow. Overnight, fire was active & aggressively backing downhill. Fire activity expected to increase today as conditions become drier & warmer. More: bit.ly/3G83H15

    ** 1/30/25 EVENING ** 🔥FIRE INFORMATION UPDATE: Crooked Creek Fire (McDowell County)🔥 The Crooked Creek Fire that burned 220 acres in McDowell County is 100% contained as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. The fire was caused by a fallen powerline.
